I've been looking for a new nail salon that offers a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Well, it looks like I've found it! My stylist, Trang, knew what I needed for my mani-pedi and explained what works best for the shape of my nails in relation to my hands. That was nice. She did an excellent job with the spa portion of my combo that really relaxed me. My fingers and my toes were pampered! The shop is light and bright with a touch of mellow listening music. Took a friend for the first time here and the environment was pretty, but we were ignored the whole time. I said 3 different things and I was ignored all 3 times, like I wanted my heals to be extra cleaned ( cheese grader thing) she rolled her eyes and didn't do it, water was to hot ignored me and can you fix the nail I just watched you mess up she breathed in all annoyed. My friend got cut and her foot is raw but the kicker was at the end before we even finished paying we were asked for a tip while her hand was out when we just walked away that was literally the most noise we heard THE WHOLE TIME! The guy that works there he was sweet and helpful with color picking. We checked the receipt and there was already a 20% gratuity added when we paid. read more

I love it here! I have two go to manicure spots--one near home and one near work. This is my work adjacent manicure place of choice. This place is always busy and it's easy to see why! This lovely white + platinum look was chosen with the help of the owner (Anne, I think?) and my nail tech. I'd pulled some color samples that we're not polishes but understones for some specialty nail products. I explained what I wanted and they made it happen! The Platinum accent nail was not traditional gel but a powder polish that was applied via a small sponge (similar to an eyeshadow applicator) and the shine is so brilliant, I love it! Truth: sometimes you do have to wait a few minutes here--even if you have an appointment. Let them know if you're on a schedule: I typically go on my lunch break and let them know that I only have 45 minutes, and they work to get you serviced and on your way ASAP! read more

I love coming to Modern Nails and Organic Spa. Due to COVID, they are only taking call ahead appointments. Lin and her staff are always so friendly, welcoming and helpful. They always do a great job with my pedicures and manicures, and definitely thorough. As you walk in, you are asked to wash your hands. They are limiting seating capacity and there is a plexiglas barrier between you and the technicians either at the nail station or pedicure spa bowls. You are also required to wear a mask upon entering the salon. I definitely recommend visiting this nail spa when you're located in the Urbana area. It's one of the best nail spas. read more

I just relocated to the area from Columbia, MD and decided to give this salon a try as it's in walking distance from my house. Overall, I was pleased with how my nails turned out and will definitely return. I was initially told it would be a 30 minute wait, but the tech said nevermind and was able to take me right away. The salon is clean and the selection of polish is on par with other salons. The reason for 4 stars is more about the ambiance/environment. There was virtually no one talking at all. It's not the most welcoming place, but hey if you're just trying to get your nails done and relax this may not be a problem. Service I received was a basic gel manicure. read more

They said they had a cancellation so the could take me right away. They were amazing. So prompt when I walked in they were ready for me right away. That made me so happy! My technician was Tam he was so friendly and nice. He did a beautiful job on my nails I could not have asked for more. I made an appointment a week ahead of time for a SNS manicure and a spa pedicure. Even though I made an appointment, it felt like the only thing the tech's wanted was to get the mani and pedi done as fast as possible and get you out the door. My nails look ok for the rush that they were obviously in. I did find it off putting that my tech kept commenting about my nails being too short as she scowled at them the whole time I got my manicure. They do not have matching gel/sns/regular colors so you're SOL if you are getting a gel mani/sns mani and want a regular nail polish on your toes to match. I was asked if I just wanted a polish change on my toes even though I made an appointment for a pedicure, once again I felt like they were just trying to do what is the quickest thing to get me out the door. The person who did my pedicure laughed at me when I said I wanted the Spa Pedicure, like I made and appointment for, and said she didn't have the time. Somehow she found the extra time and did do the spa pedicure, but for the extra money it's not really worth it. I'm not sure why this place is called a Spa. It is tiny and doesn't have any spa like perks, even where you get your waxing done you literally are laying down next to someone getting their nails done, very odd. Not even a glass of water is offered to you when you're there. I was really hoping to like this place but I doubt I'll go back. Not sure why it's so hard to find a nice quality nail salon in this area that does a consistent good job. Guess I shall keep trying.... read more

UPDATE: The morning after posting this review the owner called me. She was very apologetic & invited me to come back in for a new manicure at my convenience. The next evening I made it in and it was great! After discussing the scenario, we agreed that it was probably a issue with the product, not the skills of the nail technicians. (My daughter & I asked for matching manicures. However, different people did them.) Today, my manicure was completely reapplied with fresh product & it looks wonderful! Due to her work travel schedule, daughter can't make it in until the weekend. The salon owner is very gracious about this. One other thing I should point out: the pedicures were amazing from the start!! I sincerely appreciate their willingness to ensure my complete satisfaction! I would go back!!! My initial post follows... My daughter & I visited the salon yesterday for mani-pedis. The result was uneven, bubbled, & divots in the polish. Although they tried to sand & fix the problem, the results are horrible. One day later, the top layer has cracked & started to peel. The manicure around the nail bed resembles what I'm capable on my own. This is by far the biggest waste of money EVER. Avoid this place. read more

I got a gel manicure done on Tuesday and a day later two nails are already chipped. I get gel done all the time and never ever have I had this problem. Gel is supposed to last two weeks and normally it does. Of course it's Thanksgiving today and they aren't open so I can't even have them fix it. And I can't go this weekend because I work. I was out of town and had to kill some time so decided to go here. When I called before hand I asked if they take walk ins and they so no, but they could take me. So I got there in under 10 minutes. If you are out of town and using your gps it will not take you directly there. This was not the bad experience part, although added to it. The lady that did my nails seemed very bothered to be having to take me and gave me about 2 minutes to select my SNS powder color. I was there to get an sns manicure and a regular polish change in my toes. After I had picked my nail color and asked for matching on my toes they told me they didn't have matching and selected a color for my that was not even close. So don't expect the colors to be even remotely close. Then we moved onto my nails where I asked if she could mix the SNS, as in do one layer of one color and a layer in another color she said "no we don't do that". I was shocked. My normal nail salon in Virginia suggests this and causes absolutely no additional work or complicated, not to mention this is a service salon. In addition to her denying my request she then proceeded to file my nails so hard I left with cuts on 2 of my fingers. I left with open wounds, unmatching toe and nail colors and smudged toes. I am positive there are many other nail salons that would offer a better experience and be willing to give you the service you are asking/paying for. read more
