I am very picky when it comes to selecting a masseur. I had Heather Dahl as my masseur. I swear she has magic hands. I will follow her anywhere she works at. All of my body tensions and stress practically melted away. I also tried the hot stones and it's phenomenal. Do give it a try if you haven't done so. I visited City Magnolia back in July as a surprise from my boyfriend and received a full body massage and a facial. I was impressed with the work of the massage therapist. The facial was a little rough, however it was my first one so that is to be expected. At the end of our appointment, I entered in a chance to win a gift card-and I actually managed to win it, so I ended up going back yesterday. They scheduled me with the same therapist as before, Suzie-and once again I was very impressed with her work. She really spent her time on the problem areas and I identified as well as did her best to avoid areas that I asked her to. The front desk staff is always pleasant and I'm a huge fan of the cleanliness that the spa has to offer. My only complaint really is the ease in making an appointment. I struggled with getting someone to answer the phone, and then when the person did answer the phone, it was difficult to convey what I wanted. She also seemed to misunderstand when I had told her that I had been there. My boyfriend stated that he had the same issues when he called to schedule the original appointments. I planned a bachelorette party for my sister in law at this spa and we had a BLAST from the moment we walked in!! The staff was SO friendly and made us feel so welcomed and made the bride feel so special! They even bought the bride a bouquet of flowers and had snacks and champagne glasses ready for us. I visited City Magnolia Spa today for a facial. It was the first time for me, but not the first facial. I've actually had quite a few and this was one of the better ones I've experienced. Violeta was warm, caring, knowledgeable and skilled. She talked me through the facial, which if you're new to them, is nice. There's a soft sell to purchase their products, but not pushy. I thought the facial itself was reasonably priced. I didn't ask about pricing for the products. Everything that was used on my skin smelled and felt great. The staff is incredibly welcoming and warm. They were constantly checking in on me to ensure I was having a good experience. There's a nice waiting/relaxation room with water and snacks. It's by no means the Red Door spa waiting room, but they've done a nice job with the space. I did find it odd that the lockers were in the bathroom/shower area which means you would have to wait to get your stuff if that room was occupied. The one drawback for me is that the spa is next door to a gym. The majority of the time I could hear a man's voice and the bass from the music. Certainly not the spa's fault. Even after an increase in the volume of the music and some white noise relaxation sounds, I could still hear it all. It made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. read more

I visited this spa today for the first time because my family gave me gift card for my birthday. I have mixed feelings about this spa. I reserved a 10am Summer Special. This included a dry brushing with a mud and a seaweed back mask and massage (80 minutes for $145). They were very prompt with getting me started at 10am. After filling out my paperwork I was escorted to the Magnolia Room (waiting area) and bathroom. I was given a robe and shown the lockers where I could put my personal items. I got undressed and robed and sat in the Magnolia Room to drink my tea and wait for my masseuse came to get me before I finished, but that was fine. THE GOOD: The back brushing and wrap weren't anything special. I didn't feel any different because of it, but hopefully it did it's detoxifying job! The massage was good. It was supposed to be a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue. I've never had a female masseuse because I like firm pressure. I had a female today and was pleasantly surprised at how firmly she applied pressure. She was able to find all the right spots that needed working on without me telling her. This wasn't my favorite massage because I like deep tissue and this was more Swedish. She did a good job. THE BAD: During my massage, someone opened the door!!! My masseuse stopped immediately then the door closed. I don't know who it was because I was face down. Unacceptable! Also during my massage I heard the constant hum of a saw, workers yelling, and hammering!!!! I asked who was yelling, and she said that the people next door get pretty noisy. This definitely took away from the tranquility and ability to relax. The worst part of the entire experience was when I showered and was trying to get dressed. The lockers are inside the bathroom where there is one open toilet and shower. This is a terrible place for lockers. As I stood there with no clothes on trying to put on lotion someone knocked on the door saying something that I couldn't understand because of the waterfall sound coming through the speakers, so I said "someone's in here". I wasn't able to open the door because I had already thrown my towel and robe into the hamper and there was nothing else to cover up with. Within two minutes the same person came back and started knocking on the door repeatedly until I was able to finish putting on clothes and open it! An employee, Alexandra, was standing there looking and apologizing. The woman said that she needed to get her clothes and shoes! The lockers need to be moved for that very reason. I was very annoyed by this. I would be upset if I was on the other end of the door and someone was taking a shower and I needed my belonging. I didn't like this at all. I go to the spa to escape and relax-not to be annoyed. When I went to check out the scanner wasn't working so the associate went to the other one hoping that it worked. It did. As I waited for her to finish my transaction employee Alexandra asked if I would mind if they checked another customer out first!!!! The same woman that was knocking on the door incessantly! I told yes I did mind and that the girl said that the scanner worked. This was very poor. This along with the construction and knocking ruined my experience. I still have money left on my gift card, but I'm debating on giving them a second chance. read more

I visited with my girlfriend for a 90 minute massage. We were served refreshments and a hot neck towel while waiting to change. We had separate changing rooms that were very cozy. Tatiana was my masseuse, and she did an amazing job. The entire staff was friendly, warm and receptive. My girlfriend and I left feeling relaxed, which is definitely how you want to feel leaving. I have been here before and had a good experience. But the last time I went I was very disappointed. My husband and I went for a couples massage. We were greeted by a woman at the front desk. As we filled out paperwork she proceeded to tell us how the salon next door "likes to party" and plays loud music. She then told us that at least it's not as bad as the gym that was two doors down. She said it was so loud you can't relax. I felt this was very unprofessional and not the place for her to bash the neighboring businesses. As we went to sit in the waiting area we saw empty glasses from other patrons, wrappers from chocolates and a very untidy food area. Again, not professional. We were told to change in the bathroom, but they had not yet prepared the robes and slippers and waited as the staff ran to grab our changes of clothes. Once I was in the bathroom, someone knocked on the door. It must have been one of the staff members because when I came out I found my neck pillow sitting on my chair - which was then not warm. I had Susie as my massage therapist. I am surprised she is a certified. She lacked technique and spend most of my 80 minutes rubbing me with her open hand and did not show any skill or knowledge of the body. She did not pay attention to my trouble area and when I asked her to increase pressure there was no change. My husband had Alexandria and said she was excellent! He was very happy with the massage. When I went to pay I was quoted over the phone a different price than the amount charged. I see (from the website) I was charged the correct price but it seemed as though the person on the phone was incorrect. I just say, If each of these things happened separately I would not be disappointed, but each of these things resulting in a bad experience. I called and spoke to Susie, the manager, about my experience. She was very defensive, made excuses saying it was a Saturday and said she did not know how to resolve this. She said she wrote down everything and hopes I give them another chance. She told me the owner would contact me - that has not happened. As of now, I will not be returning to this place. I do not feel this was resolved adequately. I expect if I pay $298 for a couples massage I will have a better experience and customer service. read more

I was on a search for a boutique-like spa in the DC area. That is to say that i'm not a very big fan of chain spas; no matter how luxurious they claim to be, they always end up being just a pretty conveyer belt. On the other hand, other smaller spas i've been to do not really get at the true luscious pampering i'm usually craving. I'm happy to report that City Magnolia is the answer! I decided to give it a try a couple of years ago. There wasn't much information or reviews on the spa out there, and let me tell you, their website does not do them justice at all. Im so happy i decided to give it a chance - this is now my absolute favorite spa in the area. True, they are small, but absolutely beautiful and spotless clean. I'm a bit of a germophobe, so it's hard to cater to my highly exaggerated cleanliness standards, but Magnolia spa manages to do so. The space is just immaculately designed, too. The owners are often on-site, and then they are not, the staff is well trained, polite and very helpful. Even when i had an "off" facial experience once, the matter was resolved very quickly and to my complete satisfaction. You really feel the "quality" in everything at this spa. it's the kind of place you'll happily do the whole day at, and feel like you could do more. Keep up the great job! read more

This place is absolutely perfect. I have tried several day spas in the Frederick area and nothing tops City Magnolia. I can only speak to the the massages, but my friend did have her brows done and was happy with that service as well. Everyone who works there is so pleasant and accommodating - they really make you feel special. For a massage, they take you to your own changing room with shower and you change into a divine robe and hot neck wrap. Then you sit and relax for a few minutes with tea and chocolate before your massage. The masseuse will ask about your preferences or any trouble areas and every massage I've had there has been amazing. Having your own shower and changing room is really nice and I've never felt rushed. I'm honestly shocked that this place doesn't have any other reviews. It is fantastic! read more

This was a mother daughter day that we had been waiting for for a long time. We paid over $200 (with tip) to do mani-pedis. I spent the extra money to have the polish that was supposed to stay on much longer. We were told it was comparable to the gel polishes that everyone seems to prefer. 2 days later both of our nails are chipping in many places. I am a stay at home mom with a severe injury which prevents me from doing much around the house. Not even dishes... When my daughter paints my nails, they stay nice for many days up to a week, plus I think they look better, and with cheaper polish. So, to have them chipping on the second day is definitely not what I had expected. Especially considering my nails are low wear and tear! The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. It smelled wonderful and the music was soothing. We were offered drinks and hot neck wraps. The tech was nice but she didn't talk much unless we spoke to her. She spent a lot of time on us, about 2 1/2 hours together. read more

I am happy to give Magnolia Spa a 5 star rating because this place exceeded my expectations. All of the staff was very warm, welcoming and friendly. I had a facial with dermasweep. Shelby, the esthetician did an amazing job. She explained the whole process of dermasweep including what sensations I might feel throughout. This review is long overdue. I've been seeing Alexandra for massage therapy and she is amazing. She is so attentive to what you want to accomplish at each visit. She has a calm and comforting vibe that tells you you're in good hands. Around this time of year I get the winter warming massage which comes with an added paraffin treatment which is wonderful. I love coming here. The atmosphere is wonderful and I always leave refreshed but ready to come back for my next appointment. I have also had facials and waxing services done here, too, and I always leave happy. I love having such a wonderful spa so convenient to home. If you haven't been, you are missing out. My husband and I had the Valentine's Day package couple massage yesterday, the masseuses were really good I will give them 4 out of 5 starts. My biggest problem was trying to relax and have a peaceful session when all I could hear is people screaming, slamming cabinets, loud music and the sound of a blow dry next door. The masseuses knew the music next door was loud, and they offered to call them. But even if they could have call them to turn the music down, they wouldn't be able to get rid of the slamming of the cabinets and blow dries sound. I hit spas all over the country in the course of business travel. This one is in my top 3 in the country. They have their own skincare line, created from natural botanicals, that is truly a stand-out in its efficacy and the "appealing" factors- packaging, smell, texture, etc. The on-site services I've experienced are a variety of facials, lacquer manicure, regular manicure, and hot stone pedicure. Though all services have met expectations, where City Magnolia truly shines is in the facial department- their aestheticians are impeccably trained professionals, using great equipment and truly LISTENING to what their clients are saying and responding in the treatment. I went for my first time today for a body treatment and the entire experience, from making the appointment, walking in the door, to the service itself was amazing. I get deep tissue massages monthly but my MD visit ran a bit longer than expected so I hopped on yelp and found City Magnolia Day Spa. Nice location. I was very pleased with the service I received. The atmosphere was very clam and relaxing. I was offered tea and was led to a changing room. It was nice, since my regular place doesn't offer that and when I came out, a warm neck wrap was waiting for me. =] Casey Kennedy came to get me. I explained to her why I get massage monthly and what type I normally get. She noted everything and started the massage. She started out slow to get a feeling of my tolerance, and not chatty like some therapists. It was so relaxing and felt so good for my back. I almost fell asleep!
