An absolutely TERRIBLE establishment, i went there with my sister in law to get her nails done for her birthday and BY THE NEXT DAY THE NAILS WERE ALL RUINED. I TRIED FOR ALMOST A MONTH TO GET SOMEONE TO FIX IT OR REFUND ME and I got the run around until it was "too much time passed" to get a refund. I would recommend this establishment to absolutely NO ONE. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! They robbed me of my money and won't give it back, I've had to report them to the better business bureau with photo proof in hopes of getting my money back! read more

An average experience at best! I don't know why I bothered making an appointment since I had to wait 45 min to get my nails done anyways. I realize it was a Saturday afternoon...but when 5 people make appointments for 2pm and they all have to wait 30 min or more....you're doing something wrong with how you handle your business. Make the walk-ins wait!! I ended up getting the powder polish $40. Modern is one of the only places in the area that does this type of polish. Apparently it lasts longer then gel and does not damage your nails as much. They also include paraffin for free which is a nice touch. The girl who did my nails was nice and made sure I was happy with my nails. Overall, I would go back if I didn't have anything else to do during the day and had time to wait. The prices were standard for CT. I would say...give it a chance at least once! read more

This salon is in the Huntington green in Shelton. Decor: typical wall hanging and set up for a nail salon. Services: the provide the standard services at most salons including powder gel. The color options are a bit limited and prices are a bit higher than other locations. My powder started chipping a week earlier than other locations. I think it's because it's layered so thin and they don't focus on nail edge as other salons do. Staff: both individuals I have worked with are great and very friendly. read more

Again, another five stars!! My nails look fantastic and after three days and hitting the beach two of the three, not one chip on neither hands nor feet!! Went on a Friday afternoon as a walk-in and was seated right away. Felt so bad for my girl handling me. Took her two hours to clean up the mess I left for so long. I have been going to Modern Nails for years They recently repainted and got new pedicure chairs, it has been freshened up nicely. Lien is my favorite.. gentle, efficient and such a nice person. The other girls are very nice and friendly also. They do a really nice job. I have a bunch of friends that go here now. Oh, and Sonia did a friend of my daughters nails from a picture she found on line and It was amazing how perfect that they looked. (but, the clock in here gets on my nerves,) read more

Sonia is AMAZING!!! Love seeing her every 2-3 weeks! BUT Michelle is not nice, does not listen, cuts your nails very short when you ask her not to and overcharges when powder gel nails chips after 3 days. This was my very first experience at Modern Nails - consider this before you decide to make your trip. I walked in- was greeted immediately which was great. I told the woman what I wanted, a full French acrylic set. Simple enough. after her not understanding, she told me to go sit in the chair second from the back. Very unprofessional. If a company wants to leave a good impression for the client- I would think that they could at least pull out the chair for me to sit in. I sat in the chair and turned around to find two women in a kitchen and one of the women told me that she'll be right with me--- that must've meant after she was done eating her disgusting smelling meal which by the way made the entire salon smell putrid. I waited 15 minutes for her to finish her meal-- whatever. I was so fed up at this point because the salon I usually go to for acrylics was closed and every other salon had a 45 minute wait-- so I was just going to have to put up with it. I have gotten acrylics maybe 100000 times (exaggerating but it feels that way) I know the process and I know how long it should take. I was sitting in that salon for two hours- the woman complained the ENTIRE time about how much work it is to do acrylics and she sure as hell had no idea what she was doing. It took her an hour and a half to get the tips and powder on.....I can't even deal at this point, I'm literally falling asleep in the chair. So now it's time for her to paint the French manicure. She put down the pale pink base (at least she knew how to do that part) then began painting the white tip, which came out fine. Then all of a sudden she put the pale pink coat on again!!!!! I almost freaked out!!! The white tip is now covered in pink!!!! They are no longer pure white!!! After sitting in the chair for 2 hours-- I couldn't bother complaining I was exhausted. Plus I had a class in the evening at 4:30 so I couldn't wait another 30 minutes to fix her mistake. I paid $40 plus tip for this horrible service. I will never be going back. read more

I had been a "walk-in" customer for a few years before I got smart and began to make appointments with Fanny. It is nice to always see the smiling face of a person who knows you and your preferences. She is a delightful person and my nails always look fantastic! She also encourages me to try new things and keeps me from getting in a rut. The entire staff is friendly and the salon was recently redecorated...always clean and attractive. The pricing is fair and there is always enough of a selection of colors. read more

Worse spot ever. They lack nail color choice, challenged customer on her pedicure scrub, nails uneven, untouched cuticles. I feel bad giving 1 Star; so, 2 stars‍I should have listened to my friends mom when she said they did a poor job on her nails. read more

I went in with slightly nail bitten nails and wanted the gel powder. They came out so well done and beautiful and the technician (Tammy) did such a great job on my short nails! Also the whole treatment and experience there was so enjoyable! Definitley one of the best salons in Shelton. read more

I have been here a few times because I live in the area and it's convenient. I have had pretty good experiences up until today. I went at 530, they were busy. 3 people waiting but I was willing to wait as it's a pretty big salon. I told the lady I was there for a manicure and pedicure and she told me (word for word) "not today sorry". What?! They close at 7! Needless to say I won't be back. Very disappointed. read more

This is my favorite salon. I always get the SNS nails whenever I can because they help nourish and grow your nails AND last over 2 weeks. All the ladies are friendly and provide great customer service. I've never been dissapointed and the owner Michelle is great. This was one of the worst nail salons I've ever been to. The nail tech was so rough she cut three of my cuticles down so far that it stung when they painted my nails (this has never happened to me before) and then I had a small blood line near my cuticles a couple hours later. Another finger was even swollen the next day because she was filing my skin down next to my nail. I should have not gotten a pedicure after that experience but since I made the appointment I figured I'd do it. What a waste of money! They had me put my feet in the water while it was still cold and the bowl was filling up. By the time the bowl was filled they already had me take my feet out, they barely exfoliated at all and did not massage my feet or even put lotion on my feet at all. I have never been so disappointed and of course they had me pay before all of this and I left a generous 20% tip expecting the service to be better. And don't even get me started on how rude the technician was! During my manicure she would stop to text on her phone or show her coworkers pictures and laugh at them. She didn't ask me what shape I wanted my nails and just filed them down to pointy squares and was annoyed when I asked her to slightly round the edges and none of my nails were the same length! She also didn't tell me where the paraffin dip was but thankfully someone getting their nails done next me pointed it out after seeing my confusion and said she didn't know where it was at first either (so clearly this is not uncommon). And I was there with a friend and we were talking and I didn't realize she wanted me to move my foot and in the most annoyed voice she snapped "excuse me!" and slapped my leg! Then when I was done and they had me sit to dry my toes they didn't even turn the air on to dry them which normally isn't a big deal but at this point it was just the icing on the cake of a horrible experience. Safe to say I will never be coming back here and will discourage everyone I know in the area to use another salon. I've never been so disappointed after getting my nails done! read more
