Modern Paving Inc is an absolutely fantastic company. My wife and I searched a while for a reliable company to install pavers in our driveway. We just so happen to come across a driveway being completed by Modern Pavers. The work being done was outstanding. I ask one of the workers for a business card. I called and was greeted by Matt, the owner of the company. What a wonderful person. Matt's demeanor was easy going and hospitable. We went over what we wanted for our driveway. Matt provided us with some ideas and colors to match our house. Needless to say, the estimate wasn't cheap by no means, but it was fair in regard to the other estimates I had received. So, we signed the contract and Matt advised us the project would probably take a week to ten days to finish. Matt checked with us on a regular basis, making sure we were satisfied with the progress. The driveway was done in six days from start to completion. The final product was exceptional. We are so happy that we came across Modern Paving. I'm the customer that is going to have a lot of questions before I pull the trigger on a job like this, but Victor was kind, thorough and patient. He took his time and sent me plenty of samples. IMPRESSED! I had a dirt patio with the only access being through the house. We wanted pavers and artificial turf installed and Modern Paving was able to make it happen! We had a "small project" of 250 sq ft that included demolitioning an aging wood deck into a raised paver deck. After doing our homework and receiving three bids, we selected the middle estimate. I was surprised that each contractor had a different vision for the project. The main reason we settled on Modern Paving was our comfort level with their representative, Gary. He listened and then demonstrated complete understanding of our request. He also offered some suggestions that would improve our initial design. Never did we feel any pressure to upgrade or add on. The construction crew, led by foreman, Evers, arrived on time and worked at a steady pace. Each worker seemed to know his job and there was no confusion about what the next step was. All materials were on site as needed; that eliminated any delays. The completed project took less than four days total. I recently had Modern paving come out and remodel my entire front yard. I met with no less than 10 paver companies before choosing Modern Paving. They were the third company that I met with and Gary was the first sales rep to give me a quote on the spot. Since I had already met with a few companies I had some ideas in mind, but I was also open to any ideas that Gary might have. I gave Gary my budget and the overall design plan. He was very helpful explaining what his company could accomplish for the budget that I had. Gary also offered some really great ideas that I hadn't even thought of. For instance, he said that if we mixed 2 colors of pavers the impact would be greater than having them all one color. He also suggested an artificial turf that looks very realistic for a great price. The total project price that Gary quoted was very fair, it was almost half of what another company quoted for a similar design. Three of the companies that bid the job never even called me back. Before we signed the contract with Modern Paving, I asked Gary if his crew could install LED step lights that I provided. I also wanted to run my own low voltage wiring and have every dirt area pre-plumbed for drip lines. He had no problem with any of my requests. Some of the other companies told me they would prefer to sell me lights and install sprinklers. I was able to save money by planting my own plants, installing my own lights, and doing my own drip system. Once again, Gary was cool with all of it, he even offered suggestions for what type of plants to use. On the first day of construction I could tell that I had hired the right company to do the job. The crew arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. ready to work. Within 1 day, they completely removed all of my existing concrete walkways and my entire driveway. By day 2, they were already laying road base and removing my dead landscaping. These guys were total pros, they never wasted a trip in or out. They were either removing something or bringing supplies to the site whenever they came or went. Day 3 they were finishing up with the road base and a bringing in sand for the paver installation. That night when I got home I routed my low voltage landscape wire and left my step lights out for the crew to install. On day 4 the pavers and wall material showed up and the crew began the installation. Eight short days later my entire hardscape was completed and the crew installed my new artificial turf. I am very impressed with the amount of work, and the quality of work that was completed in such a short period of time. Modern Paving even did a few things that I would consider above and beyond the scope of the job. I had modern paving replace a driveway and patio for me a year ago. Total cost was a little over $20k. Decide I should wait a year to see how the work stood up. Well, it's been a year, and I'm a little disappointed in the driveway. The pavers are falling off the edge, causing larger gaps between the pavers than should be there. I don't know how much more the edges will settle but I hope it stops soon. Other than that, the rest of the work still looks good. read more

He signed a contract, deposited our check and then decided to not do business with us. To ALL ; do not do business with Modern Paving !!!!!! @Nabil, I saw your generic response back, but that does not solve the inconvenience and all the time and energy we out into this project. After we gave Jeanne Ernst and Gary McCann a deposit, and they all agreed to do the work, we get a text from Gary after 5 days of signing the contract and depositing the money in his business bank account, that he is not interested in doing it anymore as there is not enough margin. Really?? This is how you treat your customers? He was very unprofessional and started negotiating after everything was booked on the contract. Ran across Modern Paving on Yelp. Contacted a few paver companies and they either did not call back, were no shows on appt, or a broker of sorts; guess they all have enough money in their coffers. Frank showed up on time, was very thorough, and gave me a extremely competitive pricing ( compared to the company that you hear on the radio.) I told Frank I would need some time, he left me alone did not hound me. When I was ready I contacted him and the job started within 3 days. The first day construction began Matt and his crew showed up, had the material down on day one. 4 days later I had a beautiful patio and fire pit could not believe how fast the process went. My wife and I are over the moon with the professionalism of Frank and the efficient, clean, informative, installation process. Do not overlook Modern Paving, its how contractors should work. Very disappointing. I had Frank come out to give me an estimate. He did take the time to listen to what we wanted done. Then he took a number of measurements and told us we would be hearing from him shortly with a quote. The quote never came. I spoke with Frank and shared I had not heard from him. He said he did not know what happened and he was sure the quote was emailed; he would make sure he would send the quote again. I didn't hear anything. So, I tried emailing him thinking it was possible there was an error with my email address. Never hear back. At this point I have moved on to other companies. In one word, unreliable. We wanted to replace our driveway a few years back. Got a few different quotes for a new cement driveway. It was really expensive. If we were going to spend that kind of money, I might as well get something I love. So we got a few quotes for pavers. Modern Paving was by far the most reasonable. The quote he gave us wad about the same as a new cement driveway. So we went with the pavers. Nabil was great to work with. He was responsed to all my calls. They were fast and efficient. So we ended up paving the driveway, front porch and part of the back yard. Fast forward 3 years, we just removed the front lawn to conserve water. Thought about flag stones but decides on the pavers again. Nabil can through for us again. The details and craftsmanship were great. The walkway and wall was exactly want I wanted. We wanted to install pavers in our backyard and obtained quotes from several companies. We sent Nabil pictures of our backyard and described to him what we wanted to accomplish. He sent us a competitive initial quote and we scheduled an appointment for him to come out and provide a final quote. I met Nabil in person and he seemed easy to work with and knowledgeable. However, his price did increase because we had to remove grass and shrubs, and also because we had slightly more square footage. On the day of our installation, the installers arrived at 730 am. The worked efficiently and finished in a few days. At first, we were concerned because after they were done, there were still a lot of sand on the pavers and in the corners/sides. There were also loose concrete chunks in our backyard. One of the downspouts also seems to have been dented all around and not fitted well. However, it was not an issue as they cleaned up everything as promised. There are still a few tire marks on our driveway from the equipment, but Nabil reassured us they will fade away and disappear over time. Overall, we are happy with their work. Nabil was always responsive and he seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were satisfied. read more

We have a house with a very large concrete driveway that had become cracked from tree root incursion. After taking several bids, we chose Modern Paving (MP) after rejecting System Pavers due to their bid being twice as high as that of other contractors for the same job. PRO As you can see from the pictures, the work was done beautifully. CON Similar to other reviews, there were some communication issues. Gary was very nice, in person and on the phone, but had a tendency to say things like, "I'll call you on this day" (he said this several times and it never happened), and "I'll be there on the first day of demo" (nope, never saw him after he initially made the sale). He often didn't not respond to calls or texts until a day or two later. Now, this may be the normal course of a contract job, but Gary could have simply told us that everything would be handed off to the foreman (Matt) and save us some worry at his lack of response. People get very nervous when they've contracted a job and have trouble getting ahold of the contractor. CON The job was estimated (not promised) for 5 days. After demoing, my driveway sat ripped up for 9 days while they ordered the materials. Again, this may be the norm in the paving industry, but I find myself wondering why MP didn't arrange to have the materials at the job site on day one. Gary (and I assume Matt) knew what materials and amount would be needed FOR A FULL MONTH prior to job start. They actually worked for 5 days but across almost 2 weeks to completion. PRO Now, I would have been really concerned about the communication issues if I had actually given MP both the $1000 down payment and half the cost on job start, but they basically completed the job with only the initial down payment and not a penny more from me until after the job was done. This left me impressed with not only the quality of work, but with the confidence they had in their ability to complete the job; that allowing us to make one payment at job completion was no problem. Still, it seems a risky way to do business. CONCLUSION This would have been a five star review had it not been for the communication issues. Expect exemplary craftsmanship and work, but be prepared to be flexible with your expectations of the length of the job. read more

I was told it is best to keep reviews as short as possible. The nightmare with this company started in October of 2010 and continues to this day. They replaced some very tired old concrete for my patio, pool deck and driveway with pavers. Since then they have had to come back and repair failures of the driveway and pool deck almost every year. Within 6 months of installation the deck coping started having big chips break loose in a number of places then after that the pool deck pavers started separating and sinking and are still doing so after almost 7 years. Matt has sent crews back a number of times to make repairs to no avail. The pool itself was built in 1966 and Matt keeps telling me that a 50 year old pool is still settling? We reached out to the designer, Gary, who we knew from a previous project. He connected us to Modern Paving, and they designed an updated backyard for us. They removed concrete slabs, and replaced them with pavers. Plus they changed the layout of the yard as well. I felt it was reasonably priced, and they finished the project quickly. There was one issue that came up after the project requiring me to hire someone to quickly fix it, but I contacted the company, and they sent a reimbursement check without argument. We wanted to add a patio cover to our all pavered backyard to enjoy our backyard especially during the very hot days of summer. First of all, our pavered backyard was done by modern paving as well, we had it for almost 2 years, and all of it is in intact and holding strong. I was dealing with Bill, and he was up front with what he can offer, professional, honest, trustworthy and did not pressure us one bit. Given my situation that we had decided to have a patio cover built in the middle spring time must be a bit of a wrong timing because by then contractors are very busy with projects that came in the start of the year; but bill worked out the time to meet us to discuss what we want, our options and what he can offer. Not everyone have alot experiences in having projects done in their homes, and there are fears that homeowners (like me, who's new in this)are dealing with; 1. Will the contractors i hired will get the job done? 2. Will they get it right? 3. Will the project come out beautiful? 4. Will the contractors show up or will they just take the money and not finish the job? with modern paving, they got the job done, done it right and came out really good. Bill gave us a fair price of the project, it was not the cheapest BUT the difference between the cheapest and what he gave us was not too far off. The cheapest involved cheap materials, and with the busy times going on, you'd probably get the cheapest unskilled laborer that you can find. Bill hired excellent people, professionals who take pride on their work. As far as the materials go, he gave us the elitewood, pretty much close to the top of line, if not the top of the line material with steel posts. He also installed LED lightings and ceiling fan to make the place more enjoyable. The project took more time that what i have expected it to be but with the work involved, permits, the timing (summer time), delays are expected and i don't think it would have make a difference if i hired another company to do the project. All in all, i would hire modern pavings again to do my future outdoor projects and i highly recommend them for you to use them as well.
