I foster dogs for Saving Great Animals and recently fostered a black miniature schnauzer, about 11 months old. He arrived from Puerto Vallarta at the airport one Sunday night. At one time he'd had a schnauzer cut but was grown out and very matted to the point of discomfort. I couldn't even bathe him he was so matted. I had tried to find an appointment for grooming but was unable to do so. SGA recommended I contact Larry at Modern Pet. I talked to Larry and explained the situation and he said that he was booked weeks out but that he'd come out at 7am, if that worked. Larry arrived bang on time and went to work. Because of all the matting he had to shave my little guy pretty close. I was a bit nervous about the grooming as I think the pup may have had a previous bad experience. However, when he came out of Larry's truck he was totally happy and relaxed. He looked and smelled great. Larry took his time grooming him and I couldn't be more grateful. Larry has groomed my dog twice now and I have been very pleased. I adopted her in June and unfortunately she had 3 foster homes. She is not that trusting yet but Larry took so much time with her this grooming. He is a very patient man that took a very long time with her. She was not being very cooperative. PLEASE BE AWARE! This man has some serious road rage issues! I would feel so afraid for any dog let alone a person that has to be in the same vehicle with this man. I was driving the speed limit with a NEWBORN baby in my car and for 5 miles this man tailgated & kept cursing and waving his hands. He then proceeded to speed off almost causing an accident. This man needs to be reported because of how unsafe he drives on the roads. Please don't EVER LEAVE your animal with this man. I can only imagine the way he would treat your animals given then fact he cant drive on the road like a normal human being. Also, this is not the first complaint on this mans driving. Larry would sometimes arrive up to 1 hour before or after a scheduled appointment, but never called ahead to let me know about the time change. I understand grooming dogs for a living requires some leeway time for each animal, but at least contact me if you're going to be that early or that late. Larry always spoke to me (a loyal customer) like I was an inconvenience, not a priority. But my dog was not high-maintenance, nor fussy, and my requests were never elaborate. Only ever needed the basics. I stuck with the guy as long as I did because his prices were lower, and I don't make much. Plus he was consistent in doing an alright job when it came to the actual grooming. In our last exchange, I called because I needed to cancel an appointment. He went from 0 to 60 and said he would have to start charging me for cancellations because me not paying for them was "just dumb" - he literally (and abrasively) said the words "that's just dumb" to a loyal customer. Who does that? By the way, this was only the 2nd time ever I had to cancel an appointment with him, in all the time my dog used his services. Also, I called it in more than 1 week beforehand, so I thought I was giving him a reasonable amount of notice time. Yet he proceeded to suggest I find another dog groomer. Larry doesn't seem to want customers who don't adhere to his timetable, or who are not within a close enough proximity to where his office/home is. If it's a matter of location, then don't accept jobs you think are too far away from you. Plus, if you're going to charge customers for cancellations because you don't like to lose that hour-or-so's wages, then just go ahead and do what you need to do. But don't get mad at us just because we need to cancel - we have timetables too. Also, isn't the customer always right/supposed to come first? Guess not. Anyway, the extra money I spent at a different groomer after this experience was worth the continual professionalism the new people relievingly conducted. Good riddance. read more

I've been a dog owner for 30+ years and have never had such a bad experience with a groomer. Larry is good with dogs and does a very good groom but his lack of respect and decent communication with his clients is appalling. Larry has had a very poor attitude towards me and my dog from the beginning often complaining about what hard work it was to groom my dog who is a docile Golden Retriever. One time Larry showed up half an hour early to groom my dog and had significant attitude when I wasn't "ready". I would not get involved with Larry as you will end up extremely disappointed. I tried to schedule after a last minute cancellation from him due to apparent vehicle issues and I received a message back telling me to look for a new groomer! read more

I also was trying to explain that my dogs mobile groomer would not come to our new house because it was to far out of her way. Then this guy was super rude when I was giving him directions. We made a appointment but after our conversation I decided to cancel I don't need the headache. Then he left some flaky message on my husband's phone. We have been using Larry and Modern Pet for 5 years now. He is wonderful, a true animal lover! He does a beautiful job on our three dogs! I am a woman and have never felt uncomfortable, Larry is a sweetheart. My little girl mutt, Guinness, had bad matts under her armpits and backside, from playing in the sprinklers, and we did not brush her properly, our bad. Larry did have to shave her down, this was the humane thing to do. Pulling and tugging on matts can cause serious problems and great pain for the dog. I was sad, our fault, that she lost so much of her hair, but it grew back out and now we are diligent in brushing her. I recommend Larry with no reservation! read more

I don't know what shampoo he used but my dog is never had a softer coat in his life. He seems to shed less for at least a week after the wash and groom. I have used other mobile dog groomers in the past with no success. He is always on time and prompt with the service! read more

Very unprofessional. Scheduled with this guy a week in advanced to have a regular grooming for my dog, calls my office the day of and cancels due to his dog dryer not working. I went to reschedule and he told me he'd rather pass because north Las Vegas was too far from him LOL and just rather have me go to someone else. Like well thanks for letting me know a week later. I waited a week because his prices are good, but for him to cancel last minute, as you can see in other customer comments he does not like customers canceling on him so when he canceled I was a bit disappointed. I've had varying degrees of success with mobile pet groomers in the Vegas area but this experience was as good as it gets. The groomer went above and beyond to help me out, as my kitty had had an "accident" and was in sore need of a groom before it turned into illness. He managed to fit me in on my lunch hour and was there right on time. He did an amazing job and I could tell that my kitty felt comfortable with him. My muscular, 14 pound rescue cat can be a handful, but Larry did fantastic work, and my cat was visibly happy afterwards. I had adopted a very sweet dog in the late summer, early fall of 2018, the poor thing had been lost and someone turned him into the Animal Shelter. The dog had a lot of matted fur with feces stuck in, all over the place.... I did my usual hatchet job on the poor thing and Larry, God Bless him.... He came over to fix it. Gave the dog a very careful, close cut... He became 'beautiful'. He even felt better. My other dog, has an 'autoimmune' issue and cannot be around other dogs, so Larry was able to give her a nice 'brush' and 'bath'! She's big and intimidating, so she usually scares people, but Larry was very assuring and comforting to her. He also does my other dog, my puppy for life too! The little dog never needs a cut, so he gets a brushing and bath, just like my 'big girl'. Larry is wonderful and very experienced, his prices are reasonable and very good. The gentleman who owns this business has questionable business practices. I had him groom my dogs twice. He did an acceptable job. I had him scheduled for 11/11/16 and texted him today (11/8/16) to inform him that I needed to reschedule the appointment. He then sends me a text reply that said "This is a short notice for me, I don't like this at all." Then he sent me a second text that said "there will be a $25 rescheduling fee." I then texted him back and and said "Short Notice? You were scheduled for Friday the 11th. This is the 8th. 72 hours in any business is considered exceptional. Your request for a $25.00 rescheduling fee just cost you a customer. Goodbye, good luck!" His final text was"I have to charge a $25.00 rescheduling fee to stop people from cancelling her appointment at will and basically after that I blacklist them, your on that list now" Buyer beware! read more

This is by far the worst groomer imaginable. I'm writing this review to warn you, especially if you're female, not to use this groomer. We have a normal groomer we've used for many years and get our small dogs groomed every six weeks. We just got back from a trip to the beach with the dogs, they needed a groomer and our normal groomer was unavailable. So we took a chance and will regret it for a very long time. We have a Maltipoo. This man completely shaved her ears and tail down to the skin claiming the mats were too difficult to get out. She did have very small mats but we've always been able to get them out. However, instead of letting me know he believed there were no other options, he took it upon himself to shave her without telling me. She is now having some serious problems, constantly bitting at her tail, won't walk five feet without turning back to gnaw at her tail and has nearly scratched her ears raw. The water he used was stale, she smelled awful, he parked in my driveway blocking my car, walked through my planter to take a short cut to get to his van from the front door and was very late arriving. Perhaps scariest of all, after bursting into tears upon seeing her, he went back to his van to get the mats he shaved off and I shut my door to call my husband. Next thing I know, he walked completely into my house uninvited and shut the door behind him to collect payment. I was scared to death and should have just called the police. Right or wrong, I paid him praying it would get him to leave immediately. Fortunately he did leave and made several nasty comments on his way out. I am literally traumatized by what happened and my poor dog is still not doing well even though it's a week later. I was so frightened by this man that I was even afraid to write a bad review, but it's been a week and I can't just let this go. Again this is a warning, do not use this groomer!! read more
