Andrew refinished our 110+ year old Douglas Fir floors on our newly purchased 1906 home and we were blown away by both the quality of his work, and his communication. We interviewed 3 different companies for our work and Andrew was by far gave us the best experience. 2 refused to come look at the floors in person, saying they only needed to look at photos.1 said, based on the photos, the floor was too far gone to be refinished and would need to be totally replaced ("I've been doing this for 30+ years and I guarantee you that you can't refinish them"). The other went back and forth on whether or not they could be done, but still would not come out for an in person visit. My wife and I were getting really frustrated. Thankfully we met Andrew with Modern Tech. Andrew happily came over to inspect the floors in person and give us a written estimate. He talked us through which areas would be easy and which would require a bit more attention to detail. Andrew is one of the rare, rare instances of a contractor who might care more about the finished job than the homeowner. He truly cares about his craft, at an artisanal level. He went above and beyond and the results look pretty spectacular - he sanded, and restored our ground level maple hardwood floors. He even did quite a few test color samples ahead of time, to make sure we were happy with the stain. And they look superb. If you're looking to restore your old hardwood floors, I highly recommend him. Andrew refinished the 100+-year-old Doug fir floors on our second floor, and they look fantastic! The floor in one room had been painted red and black (of all things!) and badly patched, and the adjoining rooms had been refinished years ago and then badly scratched and scuffed by dogs.
