We had Modern Tortilla attend our community's one-a-month food truck event and it was very disappointing. The food was awful and cold. The tortillas were not warmed up before serving and the meat was tasteless. They also stated that all orders came with chips and salsa and none of them did. The people running the truck seemed overwhelmed and it created a very long line for residents to order food. Outstanding service from beginning to end! Food was beyond amazing. They took excellent care of every detail. Used them for a surprise 50th birthday party over Cinco de Mayo weekend and was so lucky to have located them and used them as they rocked it! Every guest was wowed by the deliciousness of the food. We had the drop off service that included carne asada and al pastor tacos with rice, beans, chips, salsa, guacamole and multiple toppings including a yummy grilled corn. Carne asada was good but that al pastor was killer! Chips were light and crunchy. Red and green salsas were offered. Beans and rice both were above average. They were considerate of several of our guests who were Celiac and Vegan and accomodated both by making sure all was gluten free and there was a Vegan option. We hired Modern Tortilla for our wedding and the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because they were late. Food is great, communication throughout the planning process was great, and our guests loved it. They ended up calling (leaving a message) during our wedding day saying they were going to be late, but we didn't have our phones that day so we really had no idea this was happening. It was sooo stressful trying to track them down moments before we walked down the aisle not knowing if dinner for our guests would be there once it was over (something you don't want to think about as a bride and groom). 1. Don't change plans for events the day of and 2. Don't be late for weddings as they are stressful enough as it is. read more

We are very satisfy with Matt and Vivianna for their customer service. Being from out of State, we looked for a restaurant who can cater for our event. Matt was prompt in responding to my inquiries and helped me to place the e-order. The food was excellent - super delicious. The guacamole dip and chips were a hit! Also the many sides gave extra flavor to our tacos! They provided plenty utensils and napkins. They carefully packed the food in an easily transportable and serviceable way. What an amazing truck! We had them come to my office today and had prepaid for a team of 40 while also having the truck available for anyone else in the building who wanted food. Not only was the food DELICIOUS but the service was excellent. No one had to wait for more than a few minutes for food, so we had zero interruption in service for our clients. They were easy to work with and punctual. We have worked with other food trucks before and this was by far the best we have seen. We will definitely be having them back for future events. I want it first to be known that my previous review was taken down by Yelp, so we can start off with how amazingly dishonest this business is. They came to my work yesterday. It was a hot day. It was a record hot day. 116 degrees. Quite hot. I ordered a cod taco and a pork taco. The pork was very gristley. The cod was very stinky, but managed to have no flavor at all. Both tacos came topped with shredded cheddar cheese. This cheese was similar in color to the cheese from Taco Bell, but it was also similar in taste, texture, and flavor. If the meat was as good as Taco Bell, I wouldn't be able to say these were the worst tacos I'd ever had in Arizona. That title would belong to Taco Bell. But they've been dethroned. Modern Tortilla makes the worst tacos I've had in Arizona. They also took home the gold for worst Mexican food, worst Tex-Mex, and worst Food Truck. I've never had a taco so tasteless as that cod taco. The Taco Bellian cheese overpowered any other flavor on the taco. I took two bites and threw it in the trash. That's EXTREMELY uncommon for me. I eat when I'm full and eat thing I don't like because I brought up not to waste food. But screw that food. It was terrible. And I was extremely hungry because I hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast the day before. So what I'm saying is that they're the worst. Enjoy. read more

I've been wanting to try this truck for a while.. and today was the day.. Aioli Burger is one of my top 5 favorite food trucks in the valley.. why not try another creation done by Chef Tom. Not the best experience. homemade corn tortillas all tasted the same.. and we're hard, luke warm and fell apart when folded.. The Chicken was decent, Carne need ed a little salt and some lime (which was on my list of 3 toppings and were forgotten). Al Pastor need the most work lacked flavor ( and I'm all about Al Pastor). Mexican fried rice was decent, and I like the concept. What really got me was "The Real Deal (Resturant Depot) Churro" with the side of dulce de leche dipping sauce.. never got my dipping sauce.. Over all would probably never seek this truck again.. along with 98% of the food trucks in the valley. We decided to get married in a park, which proved to be a logistical challenge for dining. We decided to have our formal dinner the night before at a restaurant, and selected Modern Tortilla to provide their food truck for the park at our wedding reception to make things easy. Vivianna invited us to try samples of the food for the wedding. When we got to the location, they seemed ill-prepared. We requested a vegetarian option but most of the ingredients at the tasting were substitutes? The food was ok. Benefit of the doubt, this was just a small tasting so maybe it wasn't their best foot forward. It was like what people in Nebraska think authentic Mexican food might taste like. But we thought that was probably fine as we have a lot of guests from back East that aren't accustomed to spicy food. As a local I wouldn't recommend it for Mexican cuisine. When the CDC issued guidance for groups no larger than 50, we immediately canceled our wedding. We contacted Vivianna at Modern Tortilla within 24 hours of the CDC recommendations to cancel our event. Phoenix shortly after issued an advisement for groups no larger than 10. Obviously we cannot host a wedding. All of our food, venue, and other vendors were fantastic and immediately issued a full refund to us with no hassle, except Modern Tortilla. We will be rebooking with all of them when we can reschedule our wedding, hopefully in April 2021. Modern Tortilla was the ONLY vendor we had that did not refund us 100%. Vivianna replied to our email that they had a 90% loss in business and could not afford to refund us the full amount, only half. With the exceptional circumstance of a global pandemic, this is unreasonable. Food for a taco plate isn't normally ordered five weeks in advance of the event (60-70 guests). In fact, we hadn't even gotten to the point where they had even asked us for a final headcount, so we know we didn't cost them any money food food or staff. We really thought at the most they would ask us to pay $20 for the sample food (totally fair though not a best practice). Instead they kept over $300 of money that is not theirs. They did offer us to reschedule for 2020. The soonest we can try again is 2021 with most guests traveling from abroad or out of state. If you've ever had to cancel your wedding with five weeks notice due to no fault of your own, then I'm sure you can understand what an incredibly stressful and upsetting time this has been for us. A years worth of work has gone out the window, along with our dream wedding surrounded by our friends and family. Modern Tortilla can't refund our $300+ that they have done NO work for, and purchased NO goods to fulfill our contract, telling us they can not afford it. How am I supposed to believe you will be there later this year when you're telling me 90% of your business is gone? Is it good for the customer? No. The customer is out money for no service rendered. Is it good for the business now? Yes. The business keeps $300 as pure profit with no cost of goods or services rendered. Is it good for the business in the long term? No. Ultimately the business loses a $1400 sale. And sends an upset bride and groom out into the world to share their story. I wish this review could have been four stars (sorry not five, but the food) and I could be extolling the virtues of a company doing the right thing, but they made a bad situation worse for us. read more

Suggestion, if you run out of salsa, tell people when they order the chips and salsa as the side so they can change it to the rice. Nobody would order just tortilla chips with no salsa as their side. Otherwise the tacos weren't bad and I liked how many toppings they offer. Made it to the truck fairly early on and they had run out of salsa (which seems ridiculous for a taco truck) fish and agua frescas and at least one flavor of the tortillas, which they also failed to mention when I placed my order. My office ordered catering for a lunch group of 30 - we selected the chicken and carne options for meat, a green salad, and Modern Tortilla provided all the toppings. The delivery was on time, and the food was hot. While setting up the food the employee asked me when the party planned on eating, and provided specific instruction on the tortillas as to ensure they did not get cold or soft. I'm sort of surprised by some of the negative reviews because my experience was top notch from start to finish. I was planning a graduation party in Scottsdale for my ASU grad...28 and finally doing it. Coming from Houston, I had no idea who to call (only 5 days before I might add) and found Modern Tortilla online. From my first call to Kyle, to the arrival of the truck, there was not a minute of stress or feeling unsure. They promptly responded everytime I reached out. Thankfully Kyle didn't overwhelm me with choices. He basically told me what I needed to serve. I made queso dip and guac, (lots of booze of course) while they made chips right on the truck and served delicious salsa. Boom, party. So the truck set up in the driveway, cooking great street tacos, beans and rice. The guests loved the whole thing. I wish I had some seating out in front by the truck, but no one complained. The churros for dessert were a huge hit, I'm eating one with my coffee this morning. Laura and Tom were professional, but fun and kept it all going. They have this down to an art.
