Moe's Flowers is a small private business, so keep in mind he can't always guarantee certain flowers will be in stock at specific times. He will also push back if he doesn't think the color you have in mind can be exactly matched. I work for the university and needed to purchase office plants, I went to Moe's on a referral from a co worker. He was great to work with, offered suggestions on hearty plants and gave his honest opinion on selection, style and prices. He had some but not all of what I wanted so he offered to call his supplier and ordered exactly what we wanted. I overheard him on the phone telling them he wanted good quality (I was nervous to buy online or over the phone because you never know what you will get). What we ended up with were better than I could have hoped for, he was just ask excited as we were because of how beautiful the plants were. In regard to negative reviews I've read: He does not have a commercial, polished business etiquette that comes from corporate training. He is straightforward and business minded, like a lot of small business owners are (they get to be succesful by working hard long hours). I had absolutely no issue with him. Approach him with respect and an open mind and you will get an undeniably high quality product and service. Having graduated from a stand to a proper store front has just made it better. I've gone to his shop for years as a Berkeley student, and always during graduation season. The first time I went (2009), I bought three $7 bouquets, but was yelled at by Moe for 1) not knowing what I wanted, 2) sounding cheap, and 3) touching all the flowers. I don't blame him for being mad at me, because that was the very first time I'd ever bought flowers for anybody by myself, and I'm usually the kid that gets yelled at by security for touching displays at the art museum. I was the only person in the store, and after snapping at me for doing all of the above, this artist of a florist created three beautiful arrangements that looked as though they should cost $15 each! He told me that he should have charged me $10/bouquet, but let me go with aforementioned price. In subsequent years, I've returned to the shop, always around graduation time and received interesting service and as always, beautiful bouquets. When he's less stressed, Moe is an extremely personable individual and really takes care with his customer interactions. He enjoys conversing with we customers, even if they do start with a diatribe on credit card companies, or on Yelp itself. In terms of quality, the other flower shops I've been to in Berkeley pale in comparison to Moe's. During graduation season especially, there's something store packaged and fake with many of the bouquets that are given and Moe takes care with making sure each bouquet has a personality. With regards to buying roughly a $10 bouquet at three different flower shops over the course of one graduation season, Moe's is the absolute best in quality. There is a close-ish second which shouldn't technically count because it's in Oakland, and a far, far away third that I was too ashamed to even present to a graduating friend. As a fairly regular customer through the years, his bouquets have spoiled me and what I expect in flower arrangements. Without a doubt, I love Moe. He's like a cranky elderly relative who might berate you or be really tough on you, but at the end of the day means well. He reminds me a little bit of my high school chemistry teacher who used to threaten that she'd eat us if we failed to balance an equation properly-- it's all tough love. Getting lost in Berkeley on the day of the undergrad's graduation ceremony was very stressful. Everything wasn't going as planned. I got lost trying to find the place from the downtown Berkeley bart station, I walked up and down hills in heels and nearly fell on my face while crossing the street, and I couldn't find my family members at the meeting point (which I later found out were walking towards the opposite direction of where the ceremony was taking place). My family has been buying and receiving flowers from Moe's for as long as I can remember. He has officially become the ONLY florist who is allowed to make the birthday bouquets for all the women in my family. By all, I mean ALL...My mom, all her five sisters, her sister in law, my sister and I. We all expect a bouquet from Moe on our birthdays. His flowers last the longest of all bouquets and he knows how to arrange them so that they really look gorgeous. He remembers me each time I go and he asks how my mother and aunts are. Hours of Operation: GREAT! A flower shop that IS open on Sundays! Selection: A lot of flowers on display. This was the first place that I've ever seen BLUE roses. Too bad he didn't have any on display the other day. Flowers: Most recently bought 25 red roses. Moe even gave me one for myself free of charge! He did pick the best ones in the bunch, but my only gripe is that when he was shaving off the thorns, he didn't get all of the stems. A good number of stems still had all their thorns on them. Price: I did get a $1 discount for each rose . Originally, each rose is $2.50 Service: Moe does like to take his time talking to his customers. But you also have to love him because he's got beautiful flowers & makes beautiful arrangements based on what you can afford. Once I went in there & picked out a bouquet... & then realized I didn't have my wallet with me. I've been going to Moe's for years now and I've been spoiled rotten, if you need a simple bouquet or just some beautiful flowers, this is THE place to go. Here is how I feel spoiled: a) AMAZINGLY fresh beautiful flowers and a HUGE selection of them. b) Best deal in town by far. I typically go in and tell him what the bouquet is for and how much I have to spend, he makes something gorgeous. I tried other places and pay twice as much for a much less worthy product. c) I have a penchant for lilies, the big gorgeous ones that smell. Moe has at least 2-3 types of them that are huge, fresh and last forever. d) I have seen Moe's generosity regularly with students in particular. He is too patient and gives too much of himself, selling flowers at too low a cost e) As a regular client, I know I get special deals. I've even had him just give me bouquets before, very much undeserved but totally appreciated. So go see Moe. Be patient, be friendly, give him a chance to get to know you if you can. He's hard to deal with. That's the honest truth. When I came to pick up flowers for mother's day, I saw him tell off a lady who ordered a $10 bouquet and wanted her flowers to be wrapped in tissue paper, which he didn't want to do. He called her cheap, which in all honesty, a $10 bouquet for your mom? ok ... lady, I'm not judging, but he's definitely lacking in the customer service dept. Despite this, he really does do lovely flowers at very reasonable prices. I saw a lovely bouquet when I walked in that I wish he had made for me! I think it's easiest to just give him a price point and let him make the bouquet unless you know what you want. For example, I wanted to get my mom something with tuberoses and tulips, but he was extremely insistent about his tuberoses being total crap. Since I had no idea what else to toss into a bouquet with tulips and I didn't want to get my mom gladiola or tiger lilies like he was pushing, I suggested peonies which he told me were too expensive to combine with tulips. He then got kind of aggressive about asking me what exactly did I want in a bouquet? To which I finally just threw up my hands and when he suggested that he make the bouquet, I said yes, fine. When I picked up the bouquet, it was enormous, a cornucopia of flowers. It didn't exactly have a particular style and yes, it had both gladiola and lilies, but it looked both loud and ostentatious, which I guess really says "I love you Mom!" He even threw in a lovely white peony in the middle, so you know he pays attention to his customers despite all that gruffness. I don't live in Berkeley like my brother, so I'm not sure what it'd be like to be a regular customer. Is it worth toughing out the personality? He has seriously one of the widest selection of flowers in the UC Berkeley campus area, and I have to say that after checking out that flower shop on Durant near Top Dog, Walgreens, and other random places, Moe's is the cheapest! His flower shop is much more than just a business to him- it's his life. His shop has been here for 28 years, and if you tell him your occasion, he will definitely accommodate you. As much as I love putting together arrangements, it's usually the last thing that I want to do when I have about 100 other tasks to complete. Man helping me was super helpful in making a bouquet. As soon as I walked in, I was helped and given suggestions on how I could make the bouquet. I asked for some specific flowers and he easily made them beautiful! :) I've only been here once so I can't so much else other than I was in and out in a good amount of time, although I suppose this was due to the fact that no one else was there. Went to Moe's Flowers quite a few times in the last few weeks to get flowers for end of the year events (banquets, graduation, Mother's Day, etc.) While Moe is pretty rough on the edges, I'd say this is the best place for students to get flowers near campus. He put together an amazing bouquet for my mom after just asking me what my budget was ($25 will get you a great bouquet from him), and even helped me create a water bag for the flowers because I told him she'd be driving from Berkeley to my hometown. Moe is great at his job, and he takes it seriously. Let him know what you want. It seems to me like Moe likes his creative freedom when arranging bouquets, especially if all you say when you walk in is "I want a bouquet" and you have a tight budget. I made that mistake my first time. I personally haven't had too horrible of an experience with Moe yet. The one time he was grumpy was a very busy day, so I can't blame him for that. Moe's is a really easy place to create your own bouquet (so many different kinds of loose flowers and fillers!), and if you really don't know how or don't want to do it yourself, he's excellent at creating one for you by price, color, and occasion. You'll quickly find that at other florists, despite their display, they don't carry the amount of variety and freshness in their flowers as Moe's. And let's face it. Do you want 100% cookie-baking-grandmother friendliness and droopy flowers or a moody guy (who also has great moments!) with 100% fresh and beautiful flowers? Moe has always given me more MORE flowers than I've paid for. It's just so breathtaking when I see the bouquet of flowers. You would NEVER get a bouquet of flowers THAT nice from Safeway. Yes, he likes to talk a lot, but he's just trying to get to know you better. I personally think he's extremely friendly and humorous. I love Moe. And when I was a student at Berkeley, I used to LOVE his flowers. I still do, but now I've realized that his bouquets are often over-stuffed and you can split one of them into two. But with that said, Moe is still the best in the area (5 years later and still haven't found an adequate replacement), and his flowers are always beautiful and fresh. He actually wakes up around dawn everyday to go to the flower mart to pick out flowers for his stand. I'm glad to see that he's doing well enough to expand into the glass store next door. Moe is also great because if you're his friend, he'll knock a little off the price of your flowers, or he'll give you a flower for free! Some tips: Do NOT touch his flowers if you're not planning to buy it. And if there's a long line, he gets stressed out and can be a tiny bit cranky, but that's part of his charm, so just roll with it. You get a beautiful bouquet as the result! The shop is filled with flowers. I mean, so full you can barely walk through it. The owner needs to work on his social skills, but is very nice when you get through the rough exterior. Basically, if you come in for a few flowers you're probably not worth his time lol. The owner was very informative once we had the flowers picked out. He gave us some floral care tips before we left and let us know about how long each of the flowers lasted. He doesn't really give you much info on the flowers until you have them picked out. Good if you're not into pushy salesmen but bad if you don't know anything about flowers. He has a LOT of different options though, more than most florists in the area so if you're having trouble finding something and need it the same day, this guy probably has it. At the end of the day, I left with a beautiful arrangement of about 10 exotic looking flowers and filler, and only spent about $15. read more

Moe's Flowers is great! I called Moe last Saturday because I needed some last minute flowers for my girl-friends Danceworx show. Moe stayed at his shop an hour and half after his typical closing time so that I could sneak to his shop after I dropped off my girlfriend at the showcase location! Also, his ability to match together beautiful bouquets from "scratch" makes this business even better. He paired six white roses with six six purple roses and two pink lilies to make a unique and dazzling I worked in the flower business for a few years as a teen. This is a quality shop. read more

I love this flower shop! Truthfully I have no idea about how to pick flowers and Moe was so much help! When I walked in, he asked what I needed help with and he did everything from there. He asked for the occasion, my budget, and if I wanted it colorful or not. As soon as I gave him the information he went right to work!
