I went online to Paddletheriver.com to book the trip with Burning River Adventures, making the reservation was easy, you can even do the waiver online to make the trip easier. Since I have my own kayak booking the 6 mile trip only cost $15. I arrived at the Waterworks Park in Cuyahoga Falls without much trouble, it is a couple of miles from the downtown exit of Route 8. Burning River does not have a permanent building at the park, but they do meet you at the boat ramp location with a van with trailer and a mobile office. Check in was easy and the driver helped me to load my kayak on the trailer, he also pointed out where to park and the bathroom nearby. When the other groups who were going had arrived we got the safety talk and advise on how to paddle the section of river we would be covering. We then loaded up the van and headed out. We got to the Middlebury Road river access point which is the put in for the 4 mile trip that the rest of the guests were taking. Not only did the driver get everything unloaded, but he got into the river and all of the people loaded into their kayaks and going on the river; this was very helpful as the put in seemed a bit steep. I did note that they put GPS trackers on the rental kayaks so they would know when they were coming to the takeout location and could help them out. After that we drove the rest of the way to the Kramer Field river access location in Kent; I was hoping we were going a bit further up river to the John Brown Tannery Park location, but the difference is only about 1/4 mile. The put in here is very narrow and steep so I was glad to have help getting my kayak to the river. Once to the river I had time to get myself all setup and launch right under the bridge. From Kent downriver to Cuyahoga Falls in an interesting run, there are nice mellow stretches with some occasional rapids. The river mostly stays in a shallow ravine with plenty of woods and vegetation. The feel is that you are in the wild even though you are actually passing through some fairly populous cities. You do pass a number of houses that back up to the river, but they are few and far between. The river overall is a great paddle, with nothing too challenging; with the water levels pretty high from recent rain there was one small section of whitewater just as I was coming into Newton Falls that did give me a pretty sizeable spash. During the trip I saw a number of Blue Herons, some turtles, deer and a falcon. The bridge at Newton Falls is being rebuilt, but it is easy to still go underneath. Arriving into Waterworks Park you still have about 1/2 mile until you get to the takeout ramp. Luckily the driver was there to help me get out of the kayak and then get the kayak up to my car. I would recommend Burning River Adventures as a great outfitter if you are looking to get out and have some fun paddling on the Cuyahoga River. The run from Kent to Cuyahoga Falls is a nice section of the river. Burning River uses very nice sit on top kayaks which are easy to get on and off. The staff is friendly and knowledgably, plus they do a good job of getting newer kayakers on the river in a safe manner. For those who have their own kayak the cost is very reasonable to get a shuttle up river and your car is located at the takeout which is very convenient. Get out there and enjoy yourself. We are lucky enough to have some great recreational opportunities in this area and the Cuyahoga River has opened up a lot of places to access the river.

We were short on time, but we did it anyway. We decided to paddle the entire time to speed it up. The driver who took us up stream was friendly and he chatted with us during the drive. Then he put our kayaks in the water and helped us board them. After paddling the entire time, it took us less than 1.5 hours to complete the trip. My daughter was happy because she had plans that evening. The river was scenic, there weren't a lot of people on it, and I'd definitely do this again. There were some shallow areas in the river where my kayak touched the bottom, but I was able to paddle out of it. Good times!

Water was calm on our ride, but the 2nd we stopped paddling, these kayaks were immediately start to turn sideways or backwards. My son's kayak had a completely jammed seat back rendering it useless and his foot holders were broken so he got a sore back half way through the ride. My daughter's foot holders also broken. Lesson learned, assess the kayaks ur gonna have before they load them on the trailer or just take ur own if an option.

Apparently I was supposed to see a map mural on the side of the building, but missed it when trying to figure out how to checkin. They also didn't mention the whitecaps in the lake or that there were restaurants along the way. The river route was very busy with boaters and other kayakers. There was also a very low bridge you have to duck under. On the positive side, we found it was nice to be able to kayak to the Castaways restaurant. They have a public kayak dock to pull up to, it was great. They have good food too. It was okay, but not welcoming for new people who are not familiar with the area.

I am an active kayaker with my own kayak and I am always looking for new trips that I haven't done before so I was intrigued when I saw that CVA was offering a 6 mile kayak trip on the middle Cuyahoga River. I tried to book a trip online, but to book the 6 mile trip with my own kayak I was required to have at least 2 people in my booking. Last week I was passing through the area so I figured I would stop and see if I could work it out. I found the location easy enough, it is a long drive just north of the shopping plaza. I met Brad and we discussed if he could book me for the 6 mile trip; I understood that they were concerned about the possible liability of sending a single kayak out on a somewhat challenging section of the river. Brad said he had to check with his boss and I should give him a call. When I got Brad on the phone he said that they could book me on the trip and that he would meet me at the Hampton Road takeout location so that when I finished I could just do the takeout and head home. Brad was right on time meeting me at the takeout and we loaded my kayak and headed to the CVA location where we were meeting the other groups that were going on the 6 mile trip using the CVA kayaks. Having been on quite a few kayak and rafting trips I was impressed by how CVA handled getting everyone checked in, outfitted and oriented in what to expect on the river. Brad covered the necessary information in an entertaining manner and kept everyone's attention. We then loaded up the vans and were transported to The Cascade Valley Metropark Valley View area which allows river access just after the river merges with the Little Cuyahoga River. The put in area is nicely set up and we got the whole group in and on the river easily. Since I was setting up a bunch of items I ended up on the river last, but quickly ended up passing the rest of the group. The river at this point is got plenty of park around it so it feels pretty wild even though we are on the outskirts of Akron. Since I was the first one going down the river I did see 2 otters or beavers who skirted into the river as I approached, further down I had 2 hawks swoop across the river and later I encountered quite a few Blue Herons. About 2 miles down river you pass a road overpass and the river side changes to houses and businesses for about 1/2 mile. In this stretch you will see the takeout/put in spot for CVA which is well marked. After this is about 4 miles of wilderness river with plenty of bends and some very nice rapids. Near the end of this stretch of the river you will pass the Akron Waste Treatment Plant. The Hampton Road site is well marked on the river with a warning sign just at the start of bend. The takeout is easy, although there is a bit of a haul to get the kayak up to the parking lot. Cuyahoga Valley Adventures truly provided a great adventure on the Cuyahoga River. The section of the river I covered is one of the more challenging runs with swift currents, very nice class 1&2 rapids and plenty of curves that you expect from a crooked river. CVA handled the trip in a professional manner and made everyone feel welcome while still making sure that people were ready to have a fun and safe trip. For $20 I got myself and my kayak ferried up river so I could have an excellent trip. CVA has a number of options including 2, 4 and 6 mile trips with your own kayak or their rentals. The kayaks they supply are usually sit on top, although they do have some sit in kayaks upon request. They have single, tandem and kids kayaks. They supply you with the boat, lifejackets and paddles. They will also supply you with drybags for a reasonable fee. Their location is rustic and charming. I was very glad to be able to get out on a new section of the river which provided some nice thrills and lots of great scenery. If you want to have a great fun adventure on the Cuyahoga River and a chance to see the Cuyahoga Valley National Park from a different perspective Cuyahoga Valley Adventures is well worth checking out.

We are very fortunate to have a nice lake like this located down the road from us. The employees are always very helpful and pleasant. You can buy an annual pass and take your boat out whenever you want during the open season!! Their days and hours have changed because of Covid so I'm not sure of them off hand. This lake to me is is just the right size where it isn't too big and it's not too small!! I like being able to see land so anywhere on this lake you can see land. It isn't crowded so you feel like you are out there by yourself. It is very peaceful as quiet. You just hear the birds, the sound of water and of course your bait hitting the water after you cast your line :-) Maybe we will see ya out there!!
