After reaching out for a consult with Arjun after things got more comfortable, he took my rudimentary design and made it perfect to what I had imagined. The day of the tattoo you could tell the parlor took all the precautions for COVID and everything felt sanitary and clean. My experience at Mohan's Tattoo Inn was absolutely spectacular. I had a piece of hyper-realistic, heavily shaded Hindu art I wanted on my arm, and struggled to find local tattoo shops with experience in this type of work until I found Mohan's Instagram, so I scheduled an appointment. Samip was my artist and did an excellent job studying the piece to ensure he'd get it done properly, and also put me at ease regarding placement and process (he even adjusted placement twice for me and talked me through several considerations on how to place it on my arm). He estimated the piece would take 3-4 hours, but he worked on it for 6 hours to get it perfect (stayed at the shop til 2 AM!), and only charged me for 3 out of concern for my budget relative to the initial quote. So I came in a few months ago for the first time and met with Mohan to discuss a tattoo. It was a pretty difficult Ganesha tattoo and I was nervous that he'd be able to do what I wanted. The result was almost tear-inducing, it was so beautiful. Absolutely unbelievable. Last month I went back to have another tattoo done but Mohan was away for a while as a guest artist in Texas. His son, Arjun, offered to do the tattoo so I thought I'd try him, although I hadn't worked with him before and he was a young guy. I sent him some ideas for a Mandala I liked and he asked if he could design one himself instead of using one already done...a one of a kind mandala. I agreed to let him try. He presented me with a mandala a few days later that blew my mind. It was amazing. Now, my thinking was, could he actually do this as a tattoo. The answer was not yes, it was HOLY CRAP!!! It is literally more fantastic than I'd dreamt it could possibly be. The dot work, the shading, the accuracy. UNBELIEVABLE. These guys are absolutely amazing and I will never go anywhere else for a tattoo. I can not recommend Mohan's Tattoo Inn more strongly. Mohan and Arjun are amazingly talented, and two of the nicest people I've met in my 20 years in NYC. I'm so happy with what they've done, I'm going back to have Arjun finish the sleeve. I got my first tattoo here, and if I were to get another, I would come back here! Mohan's son, Arjun runs the place now. He is extremely accommodating and very easy to talk to. He'll happily discuss designs and ideas with you. I was unsure on some aspects of the design I had, and we went through the drafts together. The type of tattoo I wanted was a custom design, and. I was having a hard time finding an artist that was NOT specialists in the tacky cartoon type art. He also charged me significantly less than what I was getting quoted by comparable shops. I don't doubt that he could've charged more with the quality of work he has done. Arjun is a master- I never was a tattoo person, but his sleeves are extremely beautiful and intricate. He has a steady hand and was patient with me when I needed a break. The shop is also extremely clean. The other artist was mopping and disinfecting the surfaces of the furniture and floor while we were drawing out my tattoo. All in all, I had an awesome experience here.
