Mole Hole Cottage - Cute gift shop! - Gift Shops Near Me - Solvang, California

I've shopped in the Mole Hole every year for at least 30 years, and have always enjoyed exploring their unique and eclectic items. I was there last week, bringing my mom and daughter to shop, and was very disappointed at how the two ladies who work there treated us. All of our questions were answered in a snarky manner, and they seemed disturbed that we were asking for certain items, which they had but were under some tables. Although it shouldn't matter how much money someone is spending to be treated as if your business is appreciated, we were there to spend a serious amount between the three of us. We left with the bare minimum, because it was clear they were not interested in being friendly and appreciative of our support of their small business. Very disappointing. read more

I have been here more than once, and always receive top-notch service. I am not exactly the most stylish of dressers, so they could maybe want to skip by me, but they don't. Every time I go to Solvang, I stop there to get some Wee Forest Folk mice, that they only have. I highly recommend the shop. I can't climb stairs, and I'm pretty sure the top two floors would be as great as the bottom. read more

This has always been my favorite store to visit when I come to Solvang. After my experience yesterday, I unfortunately will never step foot in there again. My mom and I got to the store not knowing it was closing in 5 minutes. We started looking around and the associate working says " I know you ladies just got in here but we are closing so I need you to leave" I said " your kicking us out?" She said "Yes" and started walking us to the front door. I said to her " this is terrible customer service. You don't kick your customers out you kindly let them know you are closing and maybe give them a few more minutes to look around" She says back to me" well, you clearly don't work then" I worked retail for 18 years and managed my own store. I never once kicked my customers out. I would lock the door so no one else could come in or give a warning. My mom and I were standing at the front door just in shock what happened when the same woman comes to the front, opens the door to get what looked like a dog bowl. I asked her if I could speak to a manger when she never acknowledged me. She locked the door and as she did that she then looks up and starts laughing at me. How unprofessional and childish. I will definitely be calling for a manager so they know how their business is being ran. Just called to voice my concerns and turn out the woman is the manager! She was just as rude on the phone. Saying that my interpretation of our interaction was a complete "farce". She said I was more than welcome to email the owner and proceeded to hang up on me before she could even give me the email. read more

Great if you want to be treated like a suspected shoplifter. Which is a shame because this gift shop has three levels of unique and useful items for kitchen, bath, clothing, etc and the prices are reasonable. Pretty much every item of clothing has an anti-theft tag on it-even a $7 pair of socks that I purchased. I was there with two friends and there were two saleswomen in the store. They didn't greet us as we went into the store. As soon as two of us went upstairs to the second level, one of the women followed us and appeared to be tidying things but when we went to the third level and she appeared again, it was painfully obvious what was happening. I went back downstairs but my friend went into a small room with sale items and the saleswoman followed her there too. When checking out, my friend confronted the second saleswoman about how uncomfortable it was and asked if they have problems with theft. She received an indirect apology along with the excuse that people sometimes go to the second floor and disturb the display of stuffed animals. There are several security cameras inside the store. There is no need to follow customers around the store. Needless to say, I won't be visiting the Mole Hole again. read more

A very cute and unique shop for souvenirs and gifts. A must visit in Solvang. We probably spent more money here than anywhere else in Solvang (not counting our motel rooms). We bought hats, postcards, some lovely and unique Christmas ornaments, jewelry, and more. We spent a long time browsing, There is so much to see and the very cute look of the store is worth a few pictures. Don't miss this place if you enjoy shopping, browsing, or are looking for gifts or unique souvenirs. Bring your camera - it's that cute. read more

Only go here if you want to be treated like a shoplifter. I had a very negative experience here. I do see other reviews stating very similar experiences, therefore I am glad I am not alone. I came in and bought about $110 worth of stuff and as I was exiting, the anti-shoplifting at the door rang. I didn't think anything of it as it rang basically anytime anyone came in or went out and I figured their system was broken. As I was outside putting everything in the stroller, the saleswoman (G....y) runs out and takes the bag away from me and asks me to wait outside as she walks through the door with the bag. It rings as she brings it in and then she asks me to walk inside. Please note, she was acting like she was in law enforcement as she does this. She then asks me to follow her to the register where I am met by the second saleswoman(W...a). They then look through everything in the bag, open up the packages and then say oh well it must be in the shoes. They let me go and I feel as I have done something wrong. I am an adult woman and have never shoplifted. I have been treated much better at luxury stores such as Cartier, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, etc. I walk out feeling discriminated against. I share what happened with my mom and she is shocked. A few minutes later I call the store if I can return and item, the saleswoman (W) then reads me a script, I ask her if there is a way I can get a full refund since I am not from the area and wouldn't be able to use the store credit. They called their boss and she makes an exception. As I go back to the store, I am treated even more poorly by the saleswoman (W...a) and she taunts me by asking if there is anything wrong with the items and I said no, "I just do not want to contribute to this establishment", another customer came up behind me and then (W...a) asks me to move my items to the side and let the customer pay. I was confused as I am supposed to also be helped. (W...a) asks the costumer to come forward and the costumer asks, "Well aren't you helping her?". She felt bad and asked me what happened. (G....y) then comes out and helps process the return which takes FOREVER. I was able to edit 7 photos and post an instagram post during the time because she took forever. Overall, a very poor experience, 1 star for giving me a refund. I will continue to monitor my credit card activity to ensure the return is processed as she had no clue what she was doing. I took pictures of the items I really liked so that I can buy them on Amazon. I love supporting small businesses especially after the pandemic but not when their employees are unprofessional. Fail. Store was apparently closing as we arrived because the door was locked, but still had a "We're Open - Come On In" sign displayed. Clerk opened the door and said she was only letting people out. I pointed out that if they're closing it would be good to remove the Open sign. She said "Ok" in a "whatever" tone of voice, relocked the door & walked away without touching the sign which still said Open. Fail customer service 101 - being nice. read more

This is a very cute place, we found it as we were wondering thought the town of Solvang. This place was filled from head to toe of very lovely gift for friends and family. We could find ourselves having some fun in this store if we lived closer, but we did enjoy our time here. So if you find yourself in the area, do stop by and enjoy this lovely store. read more

Cute place to browse on your day trip to Solvang. If I lived nearby I'd probably be in here every other month buying gifts for friends. And that's what this place specializes in... gift ware... and LOTS of it. Definitely a "chick" place but hubby is good about tolerating my eccentricities. Not a lot that I'd actually buy for myself (frilly is NOT my style) but I always enjoy a quick look. read more

This is such a great place with cute gift items. I don't think you would realize how much is in this "hole" until you walk in. There is a full collection of Vera Bradley products, Swarovski, Lollia and many other items for the home. Good to know about this place in case you're in need of a last minute gift. read more

The girl really liked this store. Three stories of trinkets. Huge selection of home decorating items. Signs, figurines, candles, dolls, jewelry, and other similar items. Two nice ladies working behind the counter. Nice shop to browse. Reasonable prices. We enjoyed all the Jim Shore items the most. read more

You just have to stop here. I have since I was a kid. They have all sorts of funky knock knacks. At Christmas they have great decorations for your home. Service is always friendly and they box things up really well, so they can travel home with you. read more

I'm not really a shopper (I don't think), but this store is very special. It's not local for me, but I do visit Solvang somewhat regularly, albeit infrequently. My first couple of times I was just overwhelmed at this store (by its sights and smells) and left quickly with a headache. However, this store has a great selection of "Life is Good" stuff, so I now go straight to their sale section and pick up some Life is Good stuff. While there, I actually looked at their stuff and asked some questions. I discovered (1) their stuff is very special and well "curated"; it's a great place for gift shopping; (2) their staff is so friendly and patient. They also have, bar none, the best selection of Chamilia beads, beating anything here in Los Angeles. I love Solvang and I will always visit The Mole Hole if I visit Solvang. read more

This store is horrible. I found them on the internet because I wanted to buy something from Crabtree and Evelyn and Crabtree and Evelyn said that this store carried their products. We don't have these items in our town and we were on vacation in Santa Barbara so I went out of my way to go there and try the products. They are soaps, gels and fragrances so I wanted to make sure that I would like them before I purchased them. In the future I will order them online. The people in this store completely followed me around the store no matter where I was looking. I almost left several times because it was sooooo annoying, blatant and rude. I am 56 years old and I have NEVER stolen anything and never would. I own my own company and make a tremendous amount of money online. I never worry about money and won't ever have to. I come from an extremely honest family and stealing would never happen. On top of this....the whole time I was there the ladies were talking about how awful people are. How people are just greedy and how awful the world is etc. Who wants to listen to this while you are shopping. NO ONE. I won't EVER step in the store again. I did go ahead and purchase my items. It came to $85.24 but I regret it now because every time I look at these items I am reminded of the whole incident. Honestly, I think these employees need to be fired. This is the first time I have ever complained about anything but this shopping experience was soooo bad that I feel that the owner needs to know what is going on in their store. If one of the ladies is an owner I can see why her store is hurting. I had to listen to all of that crap too while I was shopping. My business is booming and continues to keep growing. I can easily see why this business is hurting. Stay clear of this shop unless you want a miserable experience to ruin your vacation. read more
