All the time, there was one cashier, and one other employee stocking shelves. After roughly ten minutes, the cashier, who'd looked directly at me many times already, asked me if I needed help. I told her I pressed the button to pick up an online order, and told me the button doesn't work. Why she decided to wait a full ten minutes to tell me this is beyond me, but she then collected my information, and radioed to a coworker to bring me my item. The other employee fetched my item (a very large office laser printer), and wheeled it out to my car for me. In the box, it was too big to fit into my car. She said they'd be happy to hold it for me until I came back with a bigger vehicle, and I said I'd just unbox it and put it in my car that way. All the while, she seemed apprehensive, and in a hurry to get back into the store. She told me they'd need the box if I had to return it, so I said I'd collapse the box and take it with me. She then told me to "keep a close eye on it", as she hurriedly scooted back toward the store. I had no idea what she was getting at, and she must have seen my confusion and added, "...because of the clientele", suggesting that the location was in a seedy area. I got the printer and box packed into my car, and got it home safely. The printer's been fine, but had I known the location was so bad, and that the service would have been so bad, I'd never have selected this as the pickup location.

Somewhere between CMYK meeting RGB and dpi meeting canvas size, the painstaking process of plotting photoshop and indesign files is enough to turn any mild mannered designer into what I can only describe as a pseudo bride-zilla monster. Add in the stress of it being a 50 - 80 square foot thesis presentation poster and multiply it by about 20 students, the horror is enough to send most running in the opposite direction. Far, far away from the mob of incoherent babble about line-weight and opacity levels. Enter Ford Graphics, who not only stepped up to the plate to help my classmates and I out, but made sure our work looked as professional as any design firm in town. They put together a package for us that included test printing, plotting, mounting our posters on foamcore, and delivering them to school before our final reviews. Everything was done with the grace and professionalism one looks for when working with a company. Fast turn around and prompt replies when panicked questions were called in only added to my overall impression of the place. Tucked away deep in NW Portland, they can be a bit of a challenge to find, but well worth the search. Because for architects, the reality is that simple pieces of paper are a big deal... they hold the images of our imagination. And true shops like Ford know you can't deny that reality... or the CMYK color model it employs.

I come to ARC even if all I need is a letter-sized, black & white, résumé printed, and I would go to them for presentation posters without a second thought.

It was nearly impossible to find anyone that could show you a sample of basic cream paper or paper texture or weights. They all had scraps of this and that. One guy would not even get up from his chair to help me at the desk. When I walked into Paperjam Press, a half hour from where I live. It was like I arrived. Cute store, actual samples to choose from. Highly organized. Friendly. Moderate prices. Delivered everything they said they would do. Answered the phone! Answered every email. Outstanding in every single way. I would never go anywhere else and I can say more professional than any other printer I visited in person. They even put my small order in this tidy box. This is where you need to go for the best service and total satisfaction of the finished product and outstanding customer service.

Located on a cute section of Fremont, there are only two parking spots out front with additional free street parking nearby. Though it's a small shop, visibility to the customer area in the front isn't great, so sometimes when they're busy they don't see you right away and you have to speak up. They've been quick to respond to emails, and have a decent turnaround time regularly, with the option for a ~$25 rush fee for same-day printing. Automatic notifications go out when your order is ready for pickup. Quality has been good on the color flyers and postcards I've had printed, and I'll be looking to do a few poster boards soon so I'm hopeful those will turn out great.

Very professional, super respectful, and willing to work with me to make sure my order was perfect. I was able to talk directly with the person who was making my prints, so there was no miscommunication. I had a banner made and many many shirts with rather unique lettering and design that was kinda last minute. The Art Department gave me some expert guidance on how to make it all work so it was exactly what I wanted, but also very clean and not so cluttered like my draft was. The finished product, was too amazing for words! Way above my expectations and was blown away by the tiny details and quality. Will definitely go again. \\\\\Just a side note-they are a whole-saler, who only sell to businesses, with a business license. And it's only the applied transfers, so you'll have to be in the shirt making business (they just make the art work for you to resell) /////
