NERD ALERT I am going to dork out a little bit, so stop reading if you do not care about quality coffee--a great find while in the area for work. I popped in here on a cold winter's day for an early afternoon coffee. I noticed the beans at the counter, then glanced left and saw a beautiful roaster off to the side. I ordered a latte and picked up a bag of beans that they said is their house roast. It was a medium Ethiopian roast, which I usually don't care for, but they smelled amazing, and so was the latte. I noticed they were using a commercial Rocket espresso machine, which I don't see much of in the area. They even obliged me when I handed them my phone and asked them to snap some photos of their espresso machine. While the latte was excellent, I am partial to making my own at home. I saved my review until I had a chance to use their beans at home. It turned out fantastic. I also use a Rocket machine at home. I consumed 6 shots of espresso within a short time because the taste was so good. I have a feeling that I am going to fly through these beans and have to make a road trip back. Was staying at the Marriott nearby and took a nice stroll over in the AM to grab a matcha latte & brekkie sandwich. The shop is cute with nice jazz music playing & lots of available seating. When I got my matcha it had no matcha flavor. I took off the lid and saw it was a very, very light green color. I then grabbed a straw and tried to stir the drink but alas the drink stayed the same color. :( The breakfast sandwich was fine, but unfortunately had to toss the latte. Hoping it was an off day, or they need to rethink the matcha powder they are using. read more

I randomly picked a coffee shop near my accommodation for breakfast. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Croissant Sandwich: Melted cheese soaked into the crispy croissant and crunchy bacon, wrapping around the soft, fragrant egg--you can imagine how delicious it was. As the Chinese saying goes, "after seeing the Five Sacred Mountains, no other mountains are worth seeing; after seeing Yellow Mountain, no other sacred mountains are worth seeing"--I doubt I'll ever be able to swallow a Dunkin' bacon sandwich again. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any chai left (even though it was 8am), so I had a hot latte with oat milk - and a chocolate croissant. Both were fairly standard. There's plenty of seating so it's a great place to get some work done! read more

We Came in for the first time for lunch and ordered a couple of sandwiches. I ordered the Mo'Melt Turkey and American and my wife ordered the turkey sausage croissant with cheese. When my wife asked for a cheese other than American like Swiss or provolone and she was told that that wasn't possible because the sandwiches are premade so she opted for no cheese. Well we ended up sitting at the table right in front of the counter and observed the staff making SEVERAL sandwiches with different cheeses..... When you order you go to the end of the counter (by the windows) to pick up your drink when they call your name. They had a vegan muffin available: carrot walnut. I didn't like how it tasted when you first bite into it (it made me think of that taste things get when you leave them in the fridge where it soaks up like a fridge taste if that makes sense) but once I got past that after chewing on it a little then you got to taste the carrot/spices which were good. First time visiting. I ordered a 24oz Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte with Oat Milk and a warmed Vegan Carrot Walnut muffin. The drink was a little pricey, but it was yummy; perfect amount of strawberry in the matcha latte. The muffin was so flavorful and moist! The most perfectly moist muffin I've had! Dry where?! The only downside for me is, it had raisins in it too, I don't like raisins. I picked them out and enjoyed the rest of the muffin. Staff were lovely and the cafe was clean. read more

I was in town visiting a friend who lives a block away from momentum coffee and this place was part of my little morning routine for 4 days! I loved the close proximity and the friendly staff. The variety and creativity of seasonal options was also a win! The iced peach latte was soooooo good I ordered it three times. I also tried the egg, spinach and feta croissant during one of my visits. I purchased a gift card to thank my friend for her hospitality and to show support. They have a small retail section as well. I came to the coffee shop on a Saturday morning at about 9:30 so parking was no problem at all. I decided to get a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and the chocolate covered strawberry latte. The latte was amazing! The breakfast sandwich was okay. The cashier was very nice and chatty. It wasn't an extraordinary experience, pretty basic.... This was a new place for me. It's in the perfect location because I was at the ice rink freezing when I spied Momentum Coffee right in front of it--so it's inside Millennium Park right underneath the Bean. It was a good size large crowd out front and inside, but I noticed the line moved very quickly. So, I hobbled on over there, and I was upfront in no time. I ordered the Peppermint Hot Chocolate. I've never had this combination. Now, I've had the Peppermint Mocha but not a Peppermint Hot Chocolate. Wow, what a difference. I'm sure the difference was how Momentum Coffee made this cup of favorable Peppermint Hot chocolate. The taste of peppermint brought warmth. The chocolate and peppermint together brought out the sweetest taste of rich chocolate. I told a guy sitting next to me to try it, and he did. He was just as pleased! read more

I found out about Momentum Coffee through the inKind app. It is located in a retail storefront next to Reggie's in the South Loop. It has a modern look with some cozy unique touches. I ordered the Spinach Mozzarella Pesto Mo Melt Sandwich. It is wickedly delicious and feels cozy, as if I'm a guest at a friend's grandma's home and she cooked it for me. They had a special coffee flavor enticingly called "Chocolate Covered Strawberry Latte." I knew I had to try it. It felt like I was drinking a warm mug of chocolate covered strawberries. It tasted just like the real thing. I recommend getting both. You will not be disappointed. read more

Really great neighborhood spot. The coffee is delicious - I can tell the beans they use have a lot of flavor and quality. I just wish all the coffee shops didn't start serving only 2/3rds cup full when you order a 16oz. It's a latte so it isn't not even foam takes up that much room like a cappuccino. Their coffee tastes so good that you want to know you enjoyed a full cup! The space is built out nicely and kept very clean to enjoy your coffee sitting within the coffeeshop. Good place for coffee and treats from breakfast to afternoon. It doesn't look like anything special and seems like a corporate place but don't allow that to deter you from it. Momentum Coffee is a convenient stop from the L station east of Chinatown. Has an okay amount of coffee and some food like muffins. The prices are mostly okay it seems. About the best thing to say about it is the location is convenient. It's close to the Green Line. This is just a fast walk away from it on State Street. It's about $4 for a coffee. There's typical stuff such as lattes. For sure get anything to eat. It's about $4 for a muffin. A little expensive but these are big. I had the Vegan Carrot Walnut Muffin. It hardly tasted like it was even vegan at all. This was chocolatey and full of good ass taste. For sure it's one of the best coffee places around here. It's a convenient location close to the Green Line. The atmosphere is kind of lame but prices are pretty okay on coffee or whatever. read more

I heard from the barista that there are only 4 locations of this in the Chicago area. I ordered a cappuccino which uses a South American espresso blend, so it has that nutty taste which is my preference. The cappuccino was well-made with the right amount of creamy foam. This was my first time visiting here, and I had pre-looked up the menu, deciding on the spinach, feta, and egg croissant as it was the only vegetarian breakfast sandwich option available. The space itself is beautiful and spacious, and they offer free Wi-Fi. I arrived close to eight, and they had already been open for an hour with two people working. Upon entering, I noticed one customer leaving, so I was the only one there. It seemed they were preparing a large order, so I was patient as I had to wait about three minutes before my order was taken. However, the person manning the station was speaking in a very low voice, making it difficult for me to hear, and I often had to ask her to repeat herself. Overall, it was an okay experience, but it wouldn't be my first choice of coffee shops to visit in the South Loop neighborhood. This place seems to be locally owned near the convention center, McCormick Place, and let me tell you, it gets busy when there is a conference going on. I wanted to stop in bc I prefer patronizing locally-owned businesses over the Starbucks or Dunkin's of the world. I only stopped by once so I can't say for certain that my experience was typical or if they were short-staffed, but I waited 45-60min to get a drip coffee and pastry, so I wasn't impressed. Fortunately, I had a soft start time scheduled that day so I was willing to wait. The staff seemed to be friendly, but seriously overwhelmed. Though the ones making the espresso drinks were working hard. The folks in front of me mostly wanted espresso drinks which aren't quick, so after waiting to place an order, you'd be waiting again to get your drink. If this level of busy-ness is typical for this establishment during conferences, I highly recommend that they staff up (if possible) and set up an express line for those only wanting drip coffee - Or perhaps encourage more people to order drip coffee, as some folks would prioritize the time savings over their latte. I also noted that my wait was exacerbated by a patron wanting to order 30 pastries (presumably for their group at the conference) and maybe that was abnormal - not sure if there is an option to order ahead or online - but they ran out of label paper as they were taking the order (the labels that go on the individual paper wrapping for each pastries) and that caused an additional delay that the staff were ultimately able to work through, but not efficiently. It was painful to watch, considering they were only 2 people in front of me and I had already waited so long. Note for the owner: I stuck it out but several people left the line due to how slowly the line was moving - so it wasn't just that there were a lot of people in line; it was barely moving. Lastly, when I ordered my coffee, the checkout gal did not immediately turn to fill my cup, and this concerned me bc I didn't want to have to wait another 15minutes for a drip coffee. Fortunately, when I asked her if she would go ahead and fill me cup, she did, but I am concerned that this isn't an automatic thing to be done, like I experience at all other coffee shops. With that being said, she may have just been so overwhelmed that her brain just wasn't working. I would understand that as I've been there too. Coffee was fine, though probably extra bitter on the tongue due to my wait. My pastry was also only ok. If they fix the wait time when McCormick Place is hosting a conference, I have high hopes for this place, but I unfortunately can't give them a better rating based on this experience. If it weren't for the staff who were there working hard, this would be a 1-star review. I highly recommend that management talk through these situations with their staff to see what they think would work better to improve the process for when they are extra busy. read more

SECOND STAR: TASTE Have not had a single order that did not taste superb. Love their jasmine tea and honey, their macchiato, or their delicious breakfast sandwiches just hit the spot every time. And I'm sure you're thinking that they should not be a separate start from quality, but it definitely should because I have eaten at restaurants they taste good but the quality of the food as well as the presentation we're not up to par, but Momentum has both. THIRD STAR: SERVICE It can get pretty busy in here with in house and to go order but, WOW, is the service great regardless. Always kind, welcoming, and working non stop. Definitely feels like home each visit. FOURTH STAR: CLEANLINESS Seriously! From their careful hands in making order, to the common area, to even the separation of orders for pickups they keep it organized, bright and clean and I love it. FIFTH STAR: LOCAL While the brand is on the rise, love that it is locally owned and created for the community by owners of the community. Staff and food: 5 stars. My breakfast sandwich and latte were delicious, and the women working were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stop by again. Working space: 1 star. I found this coffee shop online as I was searching for somewhere to join webinars and answer emails for a couple hours while traveling for work. Other reviews had pictures of big sitting areas and tables which I was excited about. However, those sitting areas are in the coworking area (which no one was using), and the main area is pretty small. And the wireless was essentially non-existent. My email wouldn't even load (just the main page that says you have 5 new emails). So thumbs up for takeout or a drink with friends. Thumbs down if you need to work. read more

What a wonderful experience at Momentum Coffee today! Tucked away on S Wabash in the South Loop neighborhood, it is a great addition for residents, hotel guests and visitors to McCormick place. I was really looking forward to giving this place a try and I'm so happy with my experience. As I walked in I was met with the rich aroma of quality coffee and a warm greeting from the staff. Such a pleasant first impression. I decided to go with a Matcha Oat Milk Latte. It was beautifully hand crafted and tasted delicious. It was rich and creamy with just the right balance of sweetness. I loved it. The shop was busy and bustling. I was so happy to see that others were visiting this new small local business in the neighborhood.
