Been here about 6-7 times so far the past few months. Have always had a good experience. Always fresh, tasty and good service. We've dined in mostly but did takeout last evening. Lot's of different choices on their menu. There's always been ample parking spaces (there's other dining establishments that share their lot) so that's another added plus to dining here. I'd noticed while dining that they do a lot of takeout orders so we finally tried that and it was excellent. Food was ready quickly, good portion sizes, ample wasabi, ginger and condiments. We live close by so this has become our go to place for sushi since moving to Salem a few months ago. Not a bad spot for some sushi. What I ordered seemed to be hit or Miss and I wasn't blown away by anything. The sushi is fairly bland and my appetizer was quite lack luster. While nothing negative happened during my experience and the staff was very friendly and helpful, I'm giving a slightly lower rating due to the food being disappointing overall. To start, I order a seared tuna appetizer and it was underwhelming. The flavor of the sear was way overpowering and there were no other flavors to help carry this dish across the finish line. There was some sort of wet sauce or broth on the bottom which was bland and flavorless, making the dish confusing because it made the fried noodles underneath soggy. After this, I dove into the nigiri. The regular salmon and yellowtail were good, but the smoked salmon had an interesting texture and lacked a real smoke flavor which was disappointing. I can't say I'd recommend this place, but the prices aren't too bad so I might give it another shot if I'm in town again. While nothing negative happened during my visit, the food just wasn't worthy of five stars. read more

My boys brought me here to the NW Salem location for my birthday lunch. Such delicious sushi and customer service. It was so hard to choose where to start. We had the jalapeño roll, islander, Valentine Roll, and something else (aging mind can't remember). Everything was delicious. They have lunch combos that come with a cucumber salad and miso soup. Oh my, what a brief visit! We entered and spoke to the host, asking where we placed a walk-in to-go order, looking at our phones and a newspaper flyer that had arrived in the mail that day. The host snarkily replied that it wasn't the same Momiji ("See? The logo is different..!")(no, honestly I still didn't see it). And just as quickly as my husband and I entered, we exited. We always go to Momiji's on Commercial Street at least twice while we are in Salem. No matter what we order, it's always good. My favorites are the lobster roll, avocado boat (pay extra for the real crab), agedashi tofu, salt and pepper squid, tiger roll and the sesame balls. I would definitely return to this restaurant when I'm in Salem again. read more

My wife and I were on a rare date and looked for a dinner option before heading to theate. I'm sorry to say this was not the start to our evening I'd hoped for. we were seated right away, but waited about 10 minutes for water to come out. The server who brought it said she'd be back in "just a moment" to get our order. We waited at least 10 minutes for her return. I'm the meantime i saw her at the tables on either side of us, packing food orders to go, attending to folks walking in the restauranot but not us. I flagged another server and asked if we could place our order, which included tea as a beverage. Another 10-minute wait and no contact. at this point we'd been in the restaurant 20 minutes and had water and an order placed. I got up and spoke to a woman who looked like the manager and told her I didn't think our table had been assigned, as I'd seen the retry much all the other tables get attention. she asked what she could bring and I said the tea would be a great start. About 3 minutes later tea arrived, accompanied by the soup and cucumber salad that came with our bento boxes, as well as bowls of rice. Then, literally two minutes later our bento boxes came....so, all the food at once, plus stuff we didn't order. The food was "fine"--the teriyaki chicken wa pretty lukewarm in temperature although my wife said she really found it tasty. She thought the avocado roll tasted a little "soapy", although I liked mine. We were dressed quite nicely for an evening out and it was just disappointing to feel so ignored by the staff, who seemed to have other priorities than taking care of us. The price of the meal was total fair for the amount of food we got. It would have been nice to have had a little more service since we made the choice to eat out. read more

The waitress said it was pan fried but we think not. Either way it was not good. The waitress removed the teriyaki from the bill so that was nice customer serves on her part. I was really looking forward to eating here. I had take-out so I couldn't bring it to their attention and this is the best I could do. There was a very weird smell in my food. I had a hard time tracing it because it was very strong on everything but I'm pretty sure the smell was coming from the ginger. It smelled like it was soaked in Pine-Sol. That was weird. I figure it's the smell the pickled ginger gets when it's rancid. It made me question EVERYTHING I ordered. Sushi is a food that needs to be fresh, not outdated. I didn't want to spend the afternoon throwing up. The smell was horrible and it permeated everything. That was NOT a good sign. So that was $25 in the garbage. I'll never go back. what an excellent surprise to find Momiji in salem on our way home from the coast highway drive from california. who would have thunk? the wait staff were cheerful, informed and helpe guide us towards the best values for lunch. the lunch crowd were regulars and lunch was busy. the food was a higher level than i would have expected, even better than some of the restaurants in north of seattle. first, and most important: the miso soup was very, very good. this is always my benchmark at a new japanese restaurant. lunch tempura plate: crispy, pretty, 2 large shrimp tempura presented with a more than a decent dipping sauce. lunch nigiri combo for me: ikura was fresh. the gunkan nori was crispy. the tuna roll used decent tuna and the salmon was tasty. lunch nigiri combo for him: california roll, the albacore tuna was very good. cucumber sunomono: the flavor was right. the cucumber needed to be less chunky and more thin delicate slices. but i forgive them because the tempura was so good. swing by here for lunch if you drive through Salem. not to be confused with the other Momijis in Salem. they are separate from this one. highly recommended. read more

When my husband picked up our food they were rude to him. I assumed even though having different owners, if a roll is called the same thing I'd be getting the same roll. Would not refund me for the single roll after being on hold for 15 minutes, telling her I had an alert guy and having to call back a number of times. Why would I want to go back out to get another roll when I was just out and wasn't told the menu is completely different. Went here for Sunday lunch with my daughter. Had been here a few times when i lived on this side of town. Clean, spacious and nice welcome from the staff. Had two appetizers the gyoza and calamari. Both nice, some nice sauces with the calamari We ordered 4 rolls all together and they were all pretty nice. No complaints. My favorite sushi place in Salem! I'm a BIG salmon sushi fan (it's my favorite food) and they always have fresh and delicious salmon on all of their rolls, nigiri, and sashimi I order. My favorite rolls are the Sake Deluxe Roll, the Red Dragon Roll, and the Caterpillar Roll. Of course you can't go wrong with their Sake Nigiri and Sake Sashimi as well.
