Momma C's has the best southern soul food around 100%. Local and family run makes it that much more special. They renovated the old Pizza Hut building, and we've been in twice since they reopened. Both times the food was incredible. Service is the part that they struggle with, but it's just because it's all family doing everything! And everything is fresh made to order, so it's worth the wait. I will say that I got a peach cobbler, and I think they freeze portions and then microwave it when ordered, and it was liquidy and soggy. I won't get that again, but every entree option is great. read more

On 7/19/25 my prayer partner and I decided to go to Momma C's after Saturday Mass for dinner. I hadn't been since the location moved to the old Pizza Hut bldg. on Shawnee Bypass. WHAT A GREAT CHOICE!!! We both decided on the Chicken wings and fries for our side. These were whole wings, not just flats w/ a few drums. These were the wings I remembered eating about 7 yrs. ago when they were located on Broadway. One of my co-workers advised she had the catfish dinner there with greens and mac&cheese. I don't eat collard greens at a Mexican restaurant. Obviously, a restaurant in a previous life. No markings on the outside of the plain white building. We came in from the west and didn't see the banner on the east entrance. Google map says this was our destination, Mamma C's Soul Food Kitchen. No marking on the front door. Was it even open? Yep, lights on and the door opened. A big restaurant. Order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Very nice helpful ladies at the counter took our order. Catfish, Fried Okra, Green Beans and Mac 'n Cheese for my wife. I had Chicken Strips, Fried Okra and the baked beans. Check the pictures of those big golden fried catfish fillets. The okra appeared to be battered in the restaurant too. Everything: chicken strips, okra, and two big hushpuppies fried to perfection. Soul food, made with love mac' n cheese, tasty green and baked beans. Generous helpings of food on the tray. Mama's C's is a clean spacious restaurant with very good service and food. Today's Special "Taco Tuesday." I bet they are delicious, but I have a rule. I don't eat tacos in a soul food restaurant and I don't eat collard greens in a Mexican restaurant! We get catering from here all the time they have never disappointed ever. Make you feel like part of the family. My most recent visit one of the ladies prayed over me because I apologized for my insulin needles being visible and told her I had Pcos. There are angels operating that kitchen. The restaurant itself is so cute too so cozy like you're home eating supper. The food is just delicious you can tell they put love in everything and it's seasoned to perfection. The open kitchen is an opportunity to see the masters at work plus the cleanliness of the kitchen is quite impressive. (If you saw me cook , you'd understand. Queen of Messy here) you order at the counter which also allows you to see the food going out. So if you are undecided this helps, you will want one of every thing! We got the catfish dinner and the chicken wing dinner. The food is cooked when you order so there is a wait but when you get your food you do not mind waiting. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, juicy, hot and crispy. Do not salt until you taste because it truly is perfectly seasoned. I HATE soggy catfish. I am a catfish snob but I would eat theirs everyday. Crispy, white, flaky perfection. I could just eat the fish but the fried okra called me then the hush puppies were alone so had to eat them too. Everything was delicious. The greens and cabbage were tasty side as well. Then came the peach cobbler. It wasn't pretty but it was yummy. Normally I don't photograph iced tea but this tea was deserving a starring role in this dinner. If you don't like southern sweet tea get half and half because this is diabetes on ice sweet just the way I like it. For a change of pace we decided to try Mama C's on a Friday evening. The menu online had hilarious names and a good variation of items. Some fried, some not. There was only one other couple present went we arrived at dinner time, but a second couple followed us in. Seemed kind of slow for Friday. The surprisingly limited menu was only posted at the counter, so we had to stand there and read it while the other couple waited. I asked for a menu and the teen at the counter pointed at the counter. It was NOT the same menu we saw online, and due to the lack of options we considered leaving. The teen recommended the special. Feeling pressured to hurry up while still wanting to give the place a try, we ordered the catfish dinner special. No substitutions were allowed. The meal was totally disappointing. Over-breaded fried fish and food truck sides. We did get desert - bread pudding - and it was good; the best part of the meal. Maybe if you really like fried food, this is the place for you. I LOVE MOMMA C'S! The fried chicken is the best I've ever had (well, except for my own version). Veggies are cooked just right, although the portions are a little small. If you get the mashed potatoes, be sure to ask for EXTRA gravy, as there's just not enough on a regular order. Service is excellent. The whole staff is friendly and eager to make everything just right. This has become our "go to" place for my wife and me. Oh, and she'd brain me if I failed to mention that she (my wife) absolutely loves the greens and also the peach cobbler. We truly love this place and make a point to eat there every week. read more

I drove from Texas to visit family here in town and decided to stop by Mama C's, first of all the cook talked us out of ordering fried catfish to ordering fried chicken (we was charged an extra $2 for an extra piece of chicken we didn't even get or ask for) and why did we do that smh! it only took about 10 minutes to have our order ready but, when we picked it up we should have checked but the bag was already tied close so we didn't open it til we made it back to our hotel, I could smell the old burnt cooking grease from the bag, the hotel hallway leading up to our room smelled like old burnt cooking grease and our hotel! The chicken breast was overcooked in old burnt cooking grease! Wasted every bit of $17 didn't get to eat our meal because the chicken was fired hard as a rock and the sides were horrible as well. We would have returned it but the restaurant had already closed for the night. I would not recommend or ever eat there again when visiting. read more

Phenomenal fried catfish and sides. Everything was clearly made with care and love, right down to the homemade tartar sauce. And as an added bonus, they have an amazing vegan option - fried cauliflower seasoned with their fried chicken spices - it's not on the menu so just ask. We were in the mood for some down home cookin, and wow were we lucky to find this place. We were coming back home after a week in Arkansas with pretty mediocre food. Glad we found MamaC's so our food experience wasn't a complete bust. I got catfish with 2 sides. I picked fried okra and cabbage. All I got to say is that it blew my socks off! Catfish was seasoned and fried perfectly, and cabbage was seasoned perfectly, which restaurants seem to have trouble doing, I'm not sure why. I want some flavor!! And Mama C's sure fit the bill. Finally tried it out last night! The catfish is some if the best I have ever had. The menu is small but it makes up for the taste in the food. Everything tasted home made.
