Happy to have a hometown favorite in a new location. The atmosphere was inviting and clean and the smells from the kitchen were mouth-watering. It was a busy Friday night so the wait time for food was expected and it was worth it.

I don't eat collard greens at a Mexican restaurant. Obviously, a restaurant in a previous life. No markings on the outside of the plain white building. We came in from the west and didn't see the banner on the east entrance. Google map says this was our destination, Mamma C's Soul Food Kitchen. No marking on the front door. Was it even open? Yep, lights on and the door opened. A big restaurant. Order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Very nice helpful ladies at the counter took our order. Catfish, Fried Okra, Green Beans and Mac 'n Cheese for my wife. I had Chicken Strips, Fried Okra and the baked beans. Check the pictures of those big golden fried catfish fillets. The okra appeared to be battered in the restaurant too. Everything: chicken strips, okra, and two big hushpuppies fried to perfection. Soul food, made with love mac' n cheese, tasty green and baked beans. Generous helpings of food on the tray. Mama's C's is a clean spacious restaurant with very good service and food. Today's Special "Taco Tuesday." I bet they are delicious, but I have a rule. I don't eat tacos in a soul food restaurant and I don't eat collard greens in a Mexican restaurant! The restaurant is easy to find on Shawnee St. Big parking lot. Give Mama C's a try.

The open kitchen is an opportunity to see the masters at work plus the cleanliness of the kitchen is quite impressive. (If you saw me cook , you'd understand. Queen of Messy here) you order at the counter which also allows you to see the food going out. So if you are undecided this helps, you will want one of every thing! We got the catfish dinner and the chicken wing dinner. The food is cooked when you order so there is a wait but when you get your food you do not mind waiting. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, juicy, hot and crispy. Do not salt until you taste because it truly is perfectly seasoned. I HATE soggy catfish. I am a catfish snob but I would eat theirs everyday. Crispy, white, flaky perfection. I could just eat the fish but the fried okra called me then the hush puppies were alone so had to eat them too. Everything was delicious. The greens and cabbage were tasty side as well. Then came the peach cobbler. It wasn't pretty but it was yummy. Normally I don't photograph iced tea but this tea was deserving a starring role in this dinner. If you don't like southern sweet tea get half and half because this is diabetes on ice sweet just the way I like it. So if you are looking for a wonderful home cooked southern soul food meal run don't walk to Momma C's in Muskogee, OK.

The breading is too thick. The breading just falls off the fish because it's so thick and heavy.

Because of the…read morecrowd, the food took a little longer than expected to come out, but not excessively so. Most importantly, everything arrived hot and fresh, which I always appreciate when a restaurant is handling a large volume of customers. The service was friendly throughout my visit. The restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout options, with a good amount of seating available inside as well as televisions throughout the space. I ordered the four-piece wing meal, which came with two sides. I chose the collard greens and mac and cheese, along with the cornbread that came with the meal. The mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment for me. It was not particularly cheesy or flavorful, and it reminded me more of a stovetop boxed mac and cheese than a traditional homemade soul food version. It did not appear to be baked, although I could be mistaken. The collard greens were decent, but they also lacked some of the depth of flavor I was hoping for from a soul food restaurant. They were enjoyable enough, but not especially memorable. The cornbread was easily my favorite part of the meal. It was thick, moist, slightly sweet, and full of flavor. I would happily order that again. As for the wings, they were cooked very well. They were hot, juicy, and not dry at all. While I thought they could have used a bit more seasoning or flavor, the texture and preparation were excellent. One thing that did catch my attention was the dessert selection. Everything looked delicious, and if I were to return, it would likely be to try one of the desserts rather than another entrée. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and the staff handled the festival crowd well. While the food did not quite meet my expectations for a soul food spot, there were a few highlights, particularly the cornbread and the well-cooked wings.

I had a vegetable plate after staring at the menu and only seeing protein options of fish (swai, catfish, talapia), chicken, or pork chop. Black eyed peas were good; cabbage was over cooked beyond recognition and was brown; green beans were too salty, which I exchanged for mac & cheese; and the fried green tomatoes were sliced sandwich thin--the fry coating might have been thicker than the actual tomato slice. All I could taste was the fried coating. Another order was whole fried catfish, catfish filet, wings, mac & cheese, and green beans; peach cobbler for dessert and blue Kool-Aid. The cobbler was ice cold, straight from the cooler with soggy crust, no cinnamon/nutmeg. My vegetables were luke warm. Best thing for me was the cornbread and peas. $50 on mediocre food. Such a let down. I expected so much more. Wishing I didn't have a 2 day reservation, I was ready to get back on the road and head home.

Most of the food wasn't good. I ordered crab cake shrimp and grits, with a side of collard greens and macaroni and cheese. Chicken and dumplings with a side of collard greens. Grilled cheese with a side of sweet potatoes. And tofu stir fry with two sides of yellow rice. So, let's start. The crab cakes were decent and I was able to keep them. The sweet potatoes were also just decent. You can't really mess those up. The shrimp and grits was a no. The shrimp was extremely salty and somehow the grits taste sweet. I'm assuming they put sugar in the grits, which is okay, but not with shrimp and grits which is meant to be a savory dish. The collard greens taste off. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but they sort of had a slight chemical/processed taste to them. The macaroni and cheese was non-existent because they forgot it, so I didn't get a chance to try it. (They gave me a side of sweet potatoes instead of the macaroni and cheese I requested.) The chicken and dumplings was cafeteria worthy, but nothing to write home about and was thrown away. The grilled cheese was dry and somehow overcooked, but my youngest daughter ate it anyway. The tofu stir fry lacked flavor entirely. The tofu was mushy but yet rubbery in some spots. The broccoli unevenly cooked, and lacked a vibrant green color of typical broccoli you would find in stir fry. The yellow rice wasn't yellow at all, but actually white rice they decided to add chicken bullion to and attempt to stir it together, creating an unevenly distributed overly salty mushy mess. I am disappointed with my food experience at Food Therapy. I honestly don't understand how they got all this food so wrong.

The food was great. We had the smothered pork chops with sweet potatoes and collard greens. I had the baked chicken with sweet potatoes and collard greens.
