Service is always fantastic and attentive. The dining section is small so I highly recommend reservations! The downstairs is the main bar area with a few high tops. After much debating and research, we decided it was finally time to try Hachiroku in New Haven. We already love going to The Loop, let's sit down and eat. Heard lots of positive buzz from fellow Yelpers and foodies, including a previous 2024 New Haven Best Restaurant of the Year at the CRAZIES. All of the accolades and positive reviews are well earned. Cozy and delicious. That's what I'd describe about Hachiroku. The ambiance is cozy regardless if you're sitting at the bar or in the upstairs seating. The food we ordered also had the same vibe. The menu rotates with the seasons and the freshest ingredients which we greatly appreciated and it shows in the tastes. Our seasonal selections that we ordered included Hokkaido scallop and octopus carpaccio with ikura and seaweed and monkfish karaage. The carpaccio had the perfect components to complement each other. The monkfish karaage fully came together between the lemon and the side of pickled radish as well. We also ordered house made fresh tofu and added uni. The staff mentioned "oh it's perfect, it's uni season" which made my day. It was so delicious and my husband who normally doesn't like uni even noticed how fresh it was. We really went wild ordering everything, including the mini Harasu don (teishoku which comes with rice, pickles, and we picked the salad), Black Cod grilled with Yuzu sauce, Yaki Kinoko Mushrooms, and the Kakuni Short Rib (which pairs very well with a side of rice). The most cozy and perfect dish for winter was the seasonal vegetable agedashi. Warm and had a nice variety of vegetables with a vegetable dashi broth that healed the soul. We enjoyed every dish and we noticed already when looking at the menu again there's already so many new items to try. Excellent service and suggestions from the staff (because if we didn't have them, we could've ordered the whole menu in one night). Can't wait to come back and rave about Hachiroku (and its sister stores/restaurants) to everyone!

It feels like a Tokyo alley way with different rooms for different groups of people. They can accommodate a large group of people where you can feel a little privacy from the main area. As far as food, this is pretty standard as far as Izakaya, but the main thing I say is truly worth it is the Tuna Trio Roll. Definitely worth it. We ordered some other items but I'd say that's the best roll you can get. We also ordered the Sushi Dragon Balls which is a fun looking dish. Just regular in my opinion. This place provides a great vibe with drinks and a bunch of Japanese izakaya food. It also provides a great vibe at the bar area as well.

We ordered chawanmushi but didn't know what it was. Luckily had no dairy. They asked if we wanted uni. We said no uni. our food came with uni. My bf doesn't like uni, we absolutely didn't order it and when asked we specifically said no we do not want uni. We were charged $10 for it and had to argue with management for 20 minutes about this. It was truly ridiculous. I'm appalled that they put up such a fight for this uni. We didn't order it, yet they made it our problem that it arrived and we didn't say anything. Truly not our responsibility to double check. Lowkey feel like they're trying to pull something on us. Would not come back. Sadly would not recommend due to this experience. I felt super uncomfortable and would not argue over $10 for no reason. Also felt like they were super condescending and thought them calling their manager would make us just pay and leave. Send the manager! I've got things to say. Condescending end to the night. Cute place otherwise which makes me so sad with this experience.

Amber was patient, pleasant, and helpful in providing much-needed details about the menu. I ordered the Open Combo Skewer and he ordered the Combo Hibachi with Chicken & Shrimp, as well as two sides of Hibachi Fried Rice. The food was delicious and hot. The meat and vegetables were well- seasoned not salty. Portion size was very satisfying, definitely enough to enjoy at a later time. We usually don't leave room for dessert but today we made an exception and went all in. The Oolong Tea Cheesecake was delicate, with light flavors and a smooth texture. The Momo Musu and the Mango Mousse Bear were exceptional. We immediately enjoyed the Peach and Mango flavors, the overall presentation, and the fresh fruit and whipped cream that accompanied it. (These two are a must when you visit) I've been eyeing Mihana for a while now, and am so happy we decided to give it a try. It was well worth it. Clean and Serene environment, that would be comfortable for a lunch date or a group gathering. This was really one of the best Japanese food experiences that I've had in some time. I highly recommend this establishment, and we can't wait to return!

Everything we ordered was delicious, I would recommend the ribeye and filet mignon skewers, the crispy tuna rice, and sushi was yummy too! Went tonight and the sushi was legitimately fresh, like actually fresh, not Midtown-lunch-counter fresh. Yellowtail carpaccio and the salmon tataki were the standouts, clean fish, no fridge taste. This is izakaya food though, so order like it: geso kara, aged tofu, gyoza, repeat. Frozen beer comes with that slushie foam cap they do in Tokyo and it keeps the pint cold to the last sip, which matters when the room is this warm and packed. Service is fast and a little chaotic. Prices are fair for the neighborhood, borderline cheap at lunch. Not a temple of sushi, but for a rowdy basement near Herald Square? Way better than it needs to be. Full by 6pm sharp. Come at 5 for the sake deal or book on Resy, the phone voicemail is always full.

The waiting area is a little cramped, but nothing outrageous. The food came about 15-30 minutes after ordering. Though it was a wait, the service was nice and they refilled our waters often. Each item was good, we all had a different favorite. The Tuna Crispy Rice was just the right amount of salty that paired well with the texture. The Kimchi Creamy Udon was also flavorful without being too heavy. The Yellowtail Carpaccio was bright and light, fish was neutral tasting. The Okonomiyaki was also good and very hot---we loved to dip pieces in the kimchi cream sauce! Overall we had a great time!
