Chu Toro Sashimi 3pc was divine
    Carrie G.

Overall a very enjoyable and yummy night out. The ambience is chic with big and comfortable booths that offer some privacy from other tables. Service was wonderful and attentive. Servers were knowledgeable about the menu and spot on with their recommendations. Their chu-toro and hamachi toro sashimi were very fresh and fatty and melted on our mouths. The chu-toro sashimi was so good we got another round! Their kalbi were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I'd definitely order this dish again! Their gomae spinach and sesame salad is a tiny but delicious portion size. I'd definitely order both again. Their Portland timber roll was not very good, I think the spicy ahi was not the freshest so we just ate around that. Their king salmon nigiri was also something I'd skip next time. It didn't have the fatty melty texture that I'd expect from a deluxe salmon. We were able to walk in on a Friday night and get a table without a reservation around 8:30. They did last call before we left and it seems like they close when it winds down for the night.

TL;DR Delicious, Umami filled sushi with special respect to the craft Where to begin with this sushi restaurant? With a combined 115 years of experience this restaurant shines with what feels like authentic sushi. We were there with a group of four and were seated promptly for our reservation at 5:45 PM. Our server Ben was an absolute delight and brought vibrancy and genuineness to his service. So shoutout to Ben. I was a bit disappointed that they were unable to accommodate my Tokyo Tea request for a cocktail (I'm always about efficiency when drinking ) but the cocktails that we did receive were elegant and refreshing. But now to the meat of the review or should I say fish? We were taken on a journey through the Toyosu fish market or so I'm and had several delicious rolls such as the Yama roll, Salmon and Scallop, Jamison and the simple California roll. We also had two of the nigiri the salmon belly and the unagi which were both fall apart tender deliciousness in your mouth. Needless to say I am looking forward to our next visit and would love to experience their version of an omakase since the quality was there.

Good food with great ambience. I liked the interior of this restaurant. It felt like it was the right balance of casual and upscale. We got their yellowtail jalapeno, oysters, and uni pasta. Their yellowtail jalapeno was not my favorite but I loved the oysters and uni pasta. Their oysters tasted super fresh and paired so well with the toppings. Their uni pasta is next level.

This place is AMAZING! Sit at the chefs counter (Scott was fun and made the most beautiful sushi). Expensive but worth it!

Place looked pretty fancy in the front but felt more casual coming in. Didn't have reservations so we waited about 30-40 min for a table. We loved how family friendly they were, they had kids plates for them with the makeshift chopsticks. Overall, the sushi was fresh and yummy. Katsu was crunchy and flavorful. Loooved their salmon skin salad. Solid sushi spot we wouldn't mind dropping in again if we're in the area.

Review for a Friday night dinner: The Mrs. & I have been dying for real sushi in Portland, and some local friends said we had to check out Momoyama; it's good but pricey. Since we're from SF Bay Area where sushi & high costs go hand in hand, we were like, "ok, let's give it a whirl." Have to say, we had a great meal! Started w IKA GESO KATAAGE / Deep Fried Squid Tentacles ($9), which was delicious, albeit a little chewy; some of the bigger pieces could have been cut smaller to fix that. It was served with a nice aoli. Next we had the AGEDASHI TOFU & MOCHI ($10). This was absolutely a stand out dish! Absolutely delicious & done perfectly. Pivoting to the Nigiri/Sashimi menu, We had an absolutely stunning first for us: SEARED UNAGI W FOIE GRAS ($14). This was ridiculously good! Coupled with SEA URCHIN & SALMON ROE ($16) / both of these were 2 pieces Nigiri. *thats $7 & $8 a bite, hence the "expensive" assessment. Time to talk about the rolls: The star of the show was the WAGYU ROLL ($19). A glorified spicy tuna roll topped with seared wagyu beef. Super good! Next up, the OSAKA ROLL ($17). First off, we asked they omit the cream cheese cause let's face it, cream cheese in sushi rolls is dumb as $hit (our server nodded in agreement regarding this request & reasoning). This was good, but the combo of avocado & takoyaki sauce kinda made the roll taste "1 note". Good but not necessarily getting again. The TSUNAMI ROLL ($10) was solid. This was a 4 piece roll. Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cilantro; I didn't taste the cilantro. Finally, had to get some sashimi, & we went for the YELLOWTAIL TORO ($10) for 3 pieces. This was perfect! ---- Why 4* vs 5*: Service - this was a very special occasion (wedding anniversary/ 1st time visit) which was conveyed in the OpenTable reservation system. Did the house acknowledge or do anything special? Nope. - our server was either new or simply not that experienced. Had to ask & wait for extra menu when seated (a 2 top not getting a menu each is rookie move, but when we asked our server for another menu & had to wait over 5mins was dumb). Then there was the issue of waiting a really long time for a lychee cocktail; note that the spot wasn't busy. We had to ask our server what the hold up was. Overall, food quality was spot on, service was average at best, price is higher than it should be for sure.

Beautiful decor, delicious food, great presentation and service. Get ready to spend a pretty penny. We ordered several items. Only disappointments were the grilled octopus and The tower was so beautiful and then to see the server mush everything up--glad I got a photo in! Service team deserves 5 stars. Friendly, attentive, nonintrusive.

Stopped in looking for a nice light meal before a busy night out. The ambiance and service was great, our server was super helpful and the restaurant had no issues accommodating my gluten (celiac) requests. The fish was decent and fresh but the standout for me was the kale salad. It had a fantastic flavor and combined with the texture of the pistachios and avocado makes it a must get. I would like to rate this place higher but the portions for the sashimi was anemic, with my 18 pieces feeling more like 9 and when the salad is the star of the night it is a bit of a miss

We enjoyed our dinner with my friend very much. I think the cuts of fish were smaller than I would expect for the price point. The fish was very fresh, but not as ocean-to-table in flavor as I expected. But everything else was absolutely wonderful and our server, the staff, the ambience and the taste of food were wonderful. I definitely think that they can step up their game with using larger cuts of fish to rice ratio and use fresher fish.

Ordered the Lobster Roll, Tuna Tower, Salmon Crispy Rice, Bacon wrapped "Hokkaido" Scallop. Food Taste: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Value: 4.5/5 Ambiance: More upscale than casual This place replaced the old Yama Sushi, and based on some other reviews, confirms it. If you're looking for flavorful sushi, Momoyama has it. Rolls are tasty and delicious. I'm a long time fan of the tuna tower. Service was attentive for us, polite waitstaff, regular refills. We did dine at 9pm though where it wasn't as busy. Value-wise, as of Jan'25, rolls are roughly $19-22 on average. A bit higher than the Portland average, but I expected this from this location. I'd come back again.

Momoyama was great, the service was very professional and friendly, making us feel welcome from start to finish. Everything we tried was amazing, but the popcorn lobster roll was definitely the highlight. The mix of flavors and texture was exceptional, and I couldn't get enough of it! The presentation of the food was stunning; each dish was beautifully arranged, and the overall neatness of the restaurant added to the experience. I hope to be back soon!

This is now one of my favorite spots! The interior is super classy, all their plates were colorful and their food was all amazing. The seafood squid ink pasta was so loaded with seafood and garlic, perfect. The tuna tower and korean fried chicken were both flavorful. Salmon sampler had the perfect rice to salmon ratio. And the lobster was basically a fancier shrimp tempura roll with lobster and it was amazing! I loved this meal and will definitely be back! Our server David was super friendly and provided his recommendations, which the ones we ended up getting were amazing! There was street parking but we opted for a parking lot nearby with a 10 min walk.

It's cute. They've got the sushi bar and then the back wall with the fire going for the meats. We came in to try the Portland Dining Month menu. It was good - 3 courses, with simple but varied flavors. My only complaint is that the portion of fish was so small, especially compared to the amount of rice they give. I might be annoyed by the smaller portions if I were ordering a la carte. Service was decent, but not particularly amazing to go along with the higher price point here. Happy hour seems like the way to go, considering that the food was good, but now WOW. My cocktail was also good hit on the sweet side. We had a good time for dining month, but I think we will stick to HH if we come back.

The food: My recommendations - Yuzu Tsuyu Tsukemen - my first no-soup ramen experience and it didn't disappoint. Got the nontraditional "warm" noodles instead of cold, but with the cold sauce, I thought it was pretty good. Reminds me of other Asian cold noodle dishes (which I typically love) but with the added fun of dipping). Tangy, sweet, savory, saucy. Yuzu Ratan - Their menu highlights a type of ramen that isn't commonly found in the US. The broth has definite citrus flavor from the yuzu, but it also reminded me of beef and tomato. I quite liked the noodles here - thin and very good chew. Quite a unique experience. It's not my favorite style of ramen, but definitely worth trying. Tori Karaage - slight fried texture on the outside and still juicy center. Another dish with yuzu from the sauce. This is a good one! Ota Tofu Yakko - firm tofu, yuzu ponzu sauce, and bonito flakes. The combination is cool and refreshing. The other dishes - Kaisen Don - I thought this dish was fine, but nothing special for the price. 4 pieces of fish with ikura and tobiko. Tonkotsu Shio - flavorful broth, but not very creamy or oily. I tend to like very rich tonkotsu. Crispy Broccolini - oven roasted to the point where the leaves tasted a bit like kale chips. Looking for a different style of ramen? It's worth a stop to Afuri to try their Yuzu Style

I did recently experience something that was really frustrating. I went in to order a to go order, the lady said it was going to be 15 mins but I had a meeting to get to, and I was trying to be a good customer by not rushing them and saying, hey, let me come back to it in about an hour- so no rush! The girl said that wasn't possible. What?? What's the difference if I got it the second it was done vs if I got it a little bit later? She said they only do that for phone orders... ok, can we pretend this is one? Anyways, she was nice enough to ask the kitchen if they can speed it up, which they did. Great right? Now, I don't know if it was out of spite or just truly forgetting but my tsukemen (noodles you dip in sauce) didn't have the tare (the sauce)- which of course I only find out when I was back home and far away from the restaurant- so it was a really frustrating surprise to come home having just bought $20 + tip noodles that I couldn't really eat since I didn't have any sauce to go with it. I don't think I'm gonna come here again
