    GREEN MACHINE ROLLS.

Bamboo Sushi on NW 23rd has easily become one of my favorite Portland spots for sushi happy hour when I'm in town! I've stopped by twice now and each time I had a great experience. The ambiance is beautiful, cozy, and perfect for a solo date or dinner with friends. On my first visit, I sat at the bar with a friend and had fantastic service! Our bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and walked us through his cocktail making which was awesome! During my second visit, I sat in the dining room with two other friends and had an equally great experience. The cocktails were tasty and the food was chef's kiss! GOOD EATS: Green Machine Roll (tempura fried green bean, green onion, avocado, cilantro, sweet chili aioli with salmon) Spicy Albacore and Spicy Salmon Hand Rolls Honey Wasabi Chicken Consistently great service, delicious food, and such a chill atmosphere def a must-try for sushi happy hour in Portland!

Stopped by the 23rd location for bamboo- went in around 2 pm on a Sunday and we were able to be seated right away! Our order came out quickly, and the tuna crispy rice, hamachi crudo and other dishes were all amazing!

I had a great experience at bamboo for lunch today. I've had several items on their menu but the Green Machine is a can't miss! I love think the brussel sprouts are also a standout. The service is always quick and friendly. This is a smaller location but the inside was nice and quiet.

Highly recommend this sushi spot if you are in Portland. It's my first time at Bamboo sushi and it has amazing food and delicious cocktails that did not disappoint. Appetizers: - Tempura cauliflower (MUST ORDER) that sweet tangy flavorful tempura battered cauliflower was one of the best appetizer I've ever had. - Chicken Karaage - Just like the normal karaage , not bad - Wasabi Honey Chicken - Initially, I thought it's just chicken covered in honey, but to my surprise (forgot to take a photo) - Shrimp tempura - very good, I like how the tempura batter is very thin but crispy. - Edamame and the garlic fried rice - nothing special, the fried rice was a bit soggy in my opinion. We ordered the Kazoku Board which feeds 6-8 ppl, this board was MASSIVE!!! It consists of a few rolls which Green Machine was a big hit and fresh sushi / sashimi. There were 6 of us and we pretty much finished all the food with a full belly. We opted out of dessert because we wanted to go Salt & Straw ice cream which was right next door. Thank you for a great meal!

I LOVE BAMBOO!! One of my favorite sushi places in Portland never had anything bad! I love the rolls and sashimi and the Tempura cauliflower is a must! Bamboo is good for any occasion, the indoor/outdoor seating is perfect for a summer day.

Consistently wonderful sushi here at Bamboo. We had a variety of sashimi and rolls at the table. Love that the kitchen is primarily gluten free, so no issues ensuring my friend with celiac was safe. Service was great despite being a busy afternoon. Ambiance was casual and quiet. Very clean and aesthetically pleasing space. Highly recommend any of their locations.

Came to Bamboo for a quick lunch on a weekday. It got the job done but was nothing to write home about. The roll was on the pricier side and was nothing special taste-wise. The Wagyu burger, which I had heard good things about, had a hearty portion of meat but did not taste like much else. I asked for my meat to be cooked medium but it came out well done. I did enjoy the taro chips that came with it, though. Overall my experience was nothing special, though perhaps I didn't order the right things.

Service: 8/10 our waiter was very kind. I asked him a lot of questions about the ingredients and food and he graciously provided every answer despite it being busy. He also was fast, didn't forget anything and was all in all a great human. Also, so cool that they a really cool company that sources their food sustainably, love this. Ambiance: 7/10 dim lit, nice date night decor Food: 5/10 the only truly impressive thing I've had here is the green machine roll. It's relatively affordable for the size and unreal flavor. Everything else I've had here just cannot come close. GREEN MACHINE: 10/10 best sushi I've ever had. Do not pass this up. Crunchy tempura with unreal sauce. The sauce is sweet, creamy & fresh tasting. It's made with egg yolk, cilantro, a hint of garlic and sweet chili sauce. It is truly unreal and very impressive. This restaurant could survive on this dish alone. UNICORN: 6.5/10 jalepeno sauce was good. Beautiful presentation. It was a refreshing sushi roll. It was good. GARLIC CHILI CHICKEN: 3/10 don't get this. Chicken was cooked beautifully. Nice char. The Fresno chilies added nice acidity but the flavor just was flat, I couldn't taste the garlic or chili. Just tasted like a underwhelming teriyaki. The bed of green beans had a few nice bites and the cooking method was unique but all in all, this dish was a disappointment. GREEN BEANS: 2/10 this dish was bland. Please do not order this. The pickled onions helped, the beans were cooked perfectly and the crunchy tempura was a nice texture but this dish had 0 flavor. Just tasted like a bland green bean.

There were 4 of us for NYE. We ordered the Tomodachi, which supposedly serves 4-6 people. We ordered another roll and an appetizer with that and we def didn't have any leftovers but we were all comfortably full. The spicy tuna crispy rice was amazing I would 100% get that again and the Green machine Roll (we added salmon to it) was also soo good and I would get again. Everything else was good but I would prob not order that board again and order those 2 with something else new to try if I went back. We also ordered the bamboo dragon roll which was really good & spicy edamame for an app. For drinks, I ordered the kindred spirit which was sweet and tasty but the one I would actually recommend was the dew drop, that is what I will be getting next time, it was super tasty. Overall enjoyed the food and experience!

10/10!! Service was amazing, the vibes were amazing, and the food was to-die-for! It was my first time having edamame, crispy rice, and the hand rolls and boyyyyyy! They did not disappoint! It's been about it a week or so and I'm still dreaming about this experience. The Green Machine is probably one of the best sushi rolls I've had in a long time! The sauce is immaculate *chefs kiss* I cannot wait to go back and try the rest of the menu! For this entire meal we spent about $90ish and I think it was worth every penny.

Bamboo Sushi was a perfect place for sushi. We randomly came upon this place after walking around 23rd Street. They have a unique twist on their sushi. It almost has an Italian like influence on many of their dishes. Every we ordered was amazing with my personal favorite being the Hoki Poke Box. I also recommend sitting at the sushi bar. The chefs were all very interactive with us and told us about the process in how they made everything. The restaurant had great service from the wait staff as well. Overall, this local sushi restaurant had everything I look forward to in a great night of sushi!

Good sushi and fewer crowds than way back when. Lots of options for sushi and a lot less description aware each individual fish came from like I remember from the old days. I found the service friendly and they took care of our group of six although one person's order came out half hour after everyone else, which is always an embarrassment when you were hosting a dinner for out-of-town folks all in all this place has stayed the same while sushi and other places has gotten better. This is an old standby that is still worth your time.

We finally made it to Janken for my sister's birthday, and apparently our strategy was to order…read morehalf the menu and see what happened. There were 4 adults, 2 small children, a full table and no self control. The cocktails were incredible, and the staff was so thoughtful they even split a mocktail for the kids, who felt very fancy and important because of it. We ordered sushi, fried rice, bao buns, lobster rolls, steak tartare, duck, scallops, sliders, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, dumplings, fries... honestly, if it was on the menu, there's a decent chance it landed on our table. By the end we were so full that dessert never stood a chance. The only thing none of us cared for was the Dynamite Roll. The warm creamy crab topping just wasn't our thing. There were also a few dishes I'm glad we tried but probably wouldn't order again--the Peking duck, bao buns, and tableside fried rice. Now for the stars of the show. The STEAK TARTARE. I order steak tartare every chance I get. I've had it all over and make it at home. This was hands down the best steak tartare I've ever eaten. Not "best in Portland." Not "best recently." Best ever. Next time I'm ordering one for the table and one for myself because sharing was a mistake. The hamachi crispy rice was absolutely divine. The King Salmon Roll was fantastic. The fries were somehow memorable enough that I'm mentioning fries in a restaurant review, which feels important. The kids loved their avocado rolls, and the staff happily accommodated their requests. Overall, Janken nailed it. Great food, amazing drinks, wonderful service, and somehow managed to make dining out with two little kids feel easy. I'm already planning to come back for my birthday. This time I'm determined to save room for dessert, try more sushi, and finally enjoy an entire order of steak tartare without having to fend off family members with my fork.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing…read more We came to Janken to celebrate my daughter's birthday, expecting a special and professional dining experience. We spent nearly $400 on dinner and expected a much higher level of service and communication. We ordered several dishes, and while most of the food arrived, the last two dishes never came. We waited over 30-40 minutes with no updates from the staff. No one checked on us or informed us of any delay,we had to ask multiple times ourselves. What made the experience even more frustrating was that we noticed another couple who arrived after us. Their food continued to come out promptly, and staff checked on them several times throughout their meal. Meanwhile, we were left waiting, wondering where our food was, with little to no communication from anyone. Each time we asked about our missing dishes, we were told, "Just one minute." Ten minutes later, there was still no food. After waiting so long, I finally asked to cancel the remaining dishes. About five minutes later, one of the dishes was brought out anyway without any explanation. I told the waitress that we had already canceled it, and she simply said "okay," took the dish, and walked away. A few minutes later, another staff member brought out the other canceled dish and told us it was complimentary and that we could take it to go if we weren't hungry. The issue was never about getting free food. I wasn't looking for free food.I brought my daughter here for her birthday because I believed this was a nice restaurant that would provide a memorable experience. Instead of leaving with happy memories from my daughter's birthday celebration, we left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and upset. The lack of communication, poor service, and overall handling of the situation completely overshadowed what should have been a special evening.
