Prison food is better cooked. This is a processed food company that needs to be investigated for how poorly prepared these meals are.

Our experience with Mom's Meals was amazing, the food was tasty and fresh. They had told us for a Saturday delivery and to our surprise the meal's arrived on Friday. I ordered from Mom's Meals for the first time 2 days ago. They were supposed to charge my Healthy Benefits card, but instead, charged my bank account. To cancel an order, the site says you must call, which I did. After a day of calling, waiting for them to answer, and leaving messages and giving them the order number, my name, and phone number, and telling them to cancel my order, today the order was shipped anyway! This is the WORST customer service experience I've had! Their cancellation policy doesn't work, and they won't even respond. After repeated phone calls, 2 voicemails left on their phone, and a support ticket submitted, no resolution and I'm out $75 from my bank account that I could NOT afford! Very, very bad customer service! I will NEVER use Mom's Meals again! read more

I'm writing this on behalf of my wife. Don't even waste your time with this company! Their customer service is the worst we've ever experienced, they're rude, uncooperative and could care less about your problem or concerns and basically unwilling to help. They weren't even willing to help my wife's case manager when she called and now she won't recommend them! My wife just cancelled them for the second time. We had them last year until they started smashing things during packaging. Her case manager suggested trying them again so we did. First one of the boxes came with the powdered milk package punctured and I had to wash everything in the box! Then the last two shipments contained meals that required tortillas, none were included in either box so we had to go out and by our own...they said sorry there's nothing we can do and refused to help. Then lastly, sometimes they come by a Mom's Meals truck, sometimes UPS. When it comes UPS, the box is bigger and heavier due to the ice packs and extra packaging and much harder to break down and dispose of, not to mention comes late in the afternoon so the ice packs sweat and start to melt and everything is wet. My wife asked they be shipped in their own truck and they said they had no control over that. So unless you like grief, aggravation and rude customer service, go elsewhere! Horrible customer service. My Grandfather's meals were supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. I was home all day and the delivery driver didn't even bring doorbell. Just left a note on the door stating delivery attempted and signature required (even after momsmeals stated no signature required due to what is going on with COVID-19). Called momsmeals and they stated if the food doesn't get delivered that evening to call first thing in the morning and they said they would overnight food for the inconvenience. Just got off the phone with them and the lady stated there's nothing they can do. The lady was very rude. I ended up just cancelling the order and will find my grandfather delivered meals elsewhere. read more

It figures that the insurance company would go to the lowest of the lows for meal delivery. They make it so obvious that their looking at from strictly a money angle. The mechanically pressed chicken was horrible. We got to let the insurance people know that sending us banquet frozen meals would be cheaper maybe that would get to consider that option. I would like to be able to tell you specifics about taste but apparently when my in home care person unpacked the box the stench of rotted food was horrific. She threw them out and forgot to mention it to me. I was looking for the delivery and went to the website and saw they charged me 112 dollars for 14 meals. That was an error I would never have spent that much money on my very limited budget. They refuse to credit my card for the food my care giver would not give to the dogs. I ordered the renal diet meals. Just tried the Salisbury steak dinner with rice and mixed vegetables. It was surprisingly good. Better than some of the regular meals from other companies I've eaten. The meat was moist and flavorful, as well as the rice and vegetables. I ordered 14 meals and they came on time and packaged well. I hope the rest of the males are as satisfactory. If they are, I'll definitely order again. read more

We set this meal plan up for my 85 year old mother who has dementia. Her first 2 shipments arrived on time and correct. My mom was very happy with the taste. I can honestly say that she enjoyed them. My problem came with my 3rd and 4th shipments I never received. I contacted customer service and their reply each time is IM SORRY. This is 1 month that they have completely not delivered meals. The food was edible but not good. I get Meals On wheels and their food is home-cooked and delicious. when calling moms meals, I was transferred a few times and some of the reps were did not know what they were doing. One rep was very rude. I cancelled my account and they still send a box that baked in the hot sun and was ruined, because I could not pick it up. By the time a friend could pick it up it was ruined, so i sent it back via fed ex, and they didn't know what they were doing. A bad experience by far. :( read more

Mom's Meals is HORRIBLE. They have repeatedly treated my handicapped mother like dog crap. Rather than site a plethora of examples, I am tired enough of their b.s. replies, blatant disrespect and amateurism to instead launch a class action complaint against them. Anyone else who has been victimized, please reach out to me and our attorney is finally eager to help remove their undeserving Medicare (and more) contract from them. No more chances. My mom would be dead of starvation if neighbors didn't intervene. They truly are masters of deception and we're DONE being abused. read more

When I was first offered this service after being hospitalized, I was thrilled. Not having to cook for 4 weeks when ill is a good thing, especially since my husband doesn't cook at all. But, upon trying the service, I was no longer thrilled; heck I was beyond dismayed. There are a few meals that are almost ok, but most are not. The "meat" in the meals is not meat-it's a soy product, and is spongy and tasteless. The calorie counts and carbs are way too high, but because the nutrition sheet is in the smallest font possible, no one can easily read them, so, after struggling to read a few with a magnifying app, I gave up. Many of the meals are an inadequate size for an adult, although some are adequate in volume. For instance, the chicken waffle is a joke. It consists of one single tiny waffle, about 2" by 2" square, and one very small "chicken" nugget (soy nugget, actually) on top of the waffle. This is less than a toddler eats, let alone an adult. In order to stomach the waffle, you need to remove it from the package and toast it, as who wants a soggy wet waffle that's been microwaved? It also had some overly sweet peach and oat dessert, but that was so sweet it went in the trash, as did the pure sugar, maple flavored syrup that was included. I toasted and ate the tiny waffle, using some sugar free Smucker's pancake syrup I had, but tossed the peach stuff and the "chicken" nugget. I did suffer through a few of the meals each week, but by the last week, all of the meals went in the trash as I just couldn't stomach another one of their "meals". Instead, I am eating frozen meals from the grocery store-also not great compared to my home cooking, but I know the ingredients, and nutrition, plus they use actual meat. Almost every side item that came separately in the box also went in the trash from day one. All the puddings, juices, margarine, cheap bread, cookies, and so on, went directly in the trash. I don't eat pudding cups, I never drink juices as they're just empty calories and sugar, the included bread is basically cheap store brand junk that I would never buy, I only use real butter, never margarine, and so on. The barbecue "chicken", besides being soy instead of real chicken, was so dang spicy that I couldn't even eat it. Maybe some people like to have their mouth burned by overly spicy, hot barbecue sauce, but not me! Also, the microwave times on every pack are way off, just so you know. We have a brand new, high wattage microwave and every single meal took at least twice as long as stated. I think meal delivery for seniors after being hospitalized is a great idea, but the company they're using is totally the wrong one. It's high calorie, high carb and low nutrition for what they offer in each meal, there's no actual meat, and much of it is tasteless, inadequate and not healthy in any way, and is the wrong way to go for seniors. Find a company that offers decent meals with decent meats, lots of healthy vegetable side dishes and so on, and that would be a winning combination. My response to Mom's Meals response to my review; First, the meals all came out of my refrigerator, none were frozen, so that kills that discussion, and I stand by my statement about the heating times. Second, the FDA guidelines are just that; guidelines. Your meals are not adequate at times, way over a healthy level of calories and carbs most of the time and not tasty all the time. I wish I could have given a great review, but I always tell it like it is and the truth is your service is a great idea in theory but a fail in practice. My suggestion is to lose the fake soy meat, get some tasters and chefs who have taste buds, and make meals that have decent real meat portions, lots of healthy vegetables and tasty sides. Lose the unhealthy puddings, margarines, cheap bread and so on.  When a customer would rather get frozen meals from the grocery store, and throw away free meals, that should tell you all you need to hear. I don't like frozen grocery store meals, but they are a lot better than what we received from your company, so until I'm up to cooking again, we'll eat those. read more

Uniquely horrible. The taste isn't that bad, the portions are. A senior neighbor gave me a couple of meals she didn't want of Creamy Turkey and Wild Rice Soup. I couldn't believe how tiny the portions are. Such a waste of packaging for such a small amount of food. Also, my city does not accept black plastics for recycling. not only do they not tell you when its here. i live in a apartment they didn't even knock. opened the box the whole thing was so sticky nasty stuff. we told them before don't send us your food ever again. then tricked my wife at her kidney center it was different company . it wasn't it was the same company same food. and of course they put it on friday night so you can't call them till monday . to tell them to come get it which they wouldn't do. so with my back all messed up and bad knee i had to bring it all the way to trash hurting myself. do your self a favor do not use these people for anything.. oh and the last time they pawned this nasty food on us we didn't know it was in hallway all weekend huge mess i had to clean . i am pissed wait till monday . there getting a phone call so is pd central. read more

I am surprised at all the fully negative posts. Really? Having received meals from Mom's Meals for about 2 months now there are some certain positives and some suggestions for improvement. My rating would be 3.5 if the scale was more able to reflect this. For customer service a certain 5/5. Any time I've called there is nearly no wait time and the prompts prior to getting a person on the phone are non-existent. You call and then immediately forwarded to a person!! Delivery 5/5 also. The Delivery is brought weekly and the driver is courteous and like clock work around 1 p.m. each time he comes. Selection is 2/5 and quality is 3/5. There are a lot of pasta dishes and this could be improved upon, as well the vegetables in the entrees is typically peas or a blend including them. Good eats but a bit bland. I recommend them and suggest giving them a try if your on the fence. You may not, but then again may appreciate and enjoy what the service brings. Ironic that I just posted this an hour earlier and received a voicemail from Mom's Meals that my order will be a day late. Hmm, well was looking forward to it and needed, but with the track record of good delivery thus far I will keep the review as is. read more

Out of three meal orders placed, the second order was sent completely incorrect, and the third order had four items missing. I contacted Mom's Meals customer service each time. All they said was: I apologize, unfortunately there is nothing we can do. Your order has been shipped. None of the above issues was resolved. I will be contacting my Insurance Company to file a complaint against Mom's Meals. Do to the fact they are the one's paying for service. The food itself I rate 4 out of 5. read more

So very disappointed. We ordered five breakfasts and five dinners for our 86 year old father. We were so happy and excited to have found a meal delivery service for him. Sadly, we were VERY disappointed. Our dad, who eats like a bird and is the least picky person I know, HATED their food. Hr said it either had no taste or tasted horrible. Additionally, the meals were so small even for him! So small that he had to make his own meal afterwards. Very very disappointed. I don't get it. If you are going to have a home meal company, why not make the food great tasting with large enough portions to fill someone up?!! The way food was packed inside the box was very good and everything was still frozen when it arrived. But for a 7.00 meal for an adult I expected it to be more food than this. This is the amount you would give to a small child. So no it won't satisfy an adult's stomach at all. And for 7.00 I could buy about 7 tv dinners on sale or maybe 3 if it's 2.00 each. Mom's need to put more food on the tray because really it's only enough for a small child. My dog could eat the whole tray with just one bite. Not two bites, just one. And my kid laughed when I took it out the microwave and said "is that supposed to fill you up then said okay I'll order take out". And shipping cost 15.00 so it makes you extra upset. I really want to review this as 1 star but I'll just leave it at 2. And I'd give 5 stars if it was a decent amount of food for an adult's appetite. I just feel ripped off especially after my kid laughed at the amount of food on my tray. So if your feeding one meal to most adults please don't think it would satisfy their appetite. Just go grocery shopping and take a few hours to just cook up a few meals and freeze them and then warm them up for your loved ones. You can save much money doing that. A neighbor just discharged from the hospital gave me a full box of these meals because he had too many to store in his freezer. I don't want to talk about the taste or quality here, which is so-so, but I found the cooking instructions completely useless. Nearly every meal, no matter what it consists of, is microwaved for nearly the same time. There were no specifics--do I let the meal thaw or stick it directly from freezer to the microwave? Here's what always happens: Let's say I decide to cook the cheese lasagna straight from freezer to microwave--I puncture both sections, cook for 2 minutes and then struggle to pull back the film to stir, which does not pull back easily the way supermarket frozen meals do--sometime I just cut it with a knife and pull it back. The lasagna is ice cold when I stir it. I cook again for 90 seconds as instructed and it's still ice cold. It's hard to get a thermometer reading from soft foods so my only solution is to cook it another few minutes--I just guess--and when it feels hot enough I serve it. These meals in no way cook like standard supermarket frozen meals, especially as the film is so difficult to pull back. My microwave is a standard 1000 watt oven and I never have a timing issue with any other frozen meals. Is there something I'm doing wrong? read more

MOMS Meals has the WORST customer service!! I have spent 3 MONTHS trying to get them to understand the approved authorizations for my father. They cannot grasp that they simply need to bill from two authorizations for 2 meals a day. Three months, multiple calls, hours on the phone and calls from his case manager.....what is so hard to understand?? Needless to say they are not delivering his meals because they cannot figure out how to bill for two APPROVED authorizations. They are HORRIBLE!!!!! They would rather let an elderly person go hungry than to simply bill from two different sheets of paper. Excellent service. Team members and associates are polite and knowledgeable. Meal plans are easy and healthy compared to other plans. I needed gluten free and dairy free, and although they don't have the dairy free option yet, they really tried to work with my "princess" requests and needs. Honestly, I really don't have anything good to say. Food randomly comes through UPS most of the time warm. Food that is provided is not very good at all. Half of the food goes to waste. Call center employees can be very rude and are not willing to help make any changes. If you are able to I would recommend a different company. This one is a headache. I was a Mom's Meal customers for 3 1/2-4 yrs or so and was at first very happy and then they did changes which seemed good until they started substituting meals even though I ordered on time, deliveries were missed and rotten oranges were sent (leading to warm food and worse I didn't have any thing to eat). But it was this year that the company really deterioated and cut back severely on food choices and blamed it on COVID-19, so wtf?...they have a CV-19 problem and have to throw away their food or what??? I for months begged that things get better but no they didn;t care and so I switched my service (ask Molina Ins. for alternative food companies and they will get you a new one!). read more

The food isn't so called fresh nor good to eat! Too much starch and sugar! Some meals have 3 starches such as mixed vegetables that have corn,peas (starch & protein) then a side of pasta! Powder eggs,sausage that looks not cooked that they looked gray instead of a brown color to it when you know it is done! Process slices of orange cheese on the sausage with the egg or a chunk of cheese inside a folded powder egg! The endless granola side dish that is mixed with apple pieces and Cinnamon or granola mixed with cranberries that is called apple crisp!Not so!Then more granola packs and powdered milk that is not used! Why so much granola? If someone ate a lot of granola that is too much fiber and your stomach will not like that and that will be a problem!! Some seniors live alone and don't know how much of that to eat and it can cause diarrhea! The chili hotdog with the pathetic sauce is terrible that have kidney beans in it! Chil sauce dosen't look like that. The biscuit with pieces of fake sausage and fake cheese inside of it is terrible! You don't microwave that and then eat it ! The over the top wheat bread of hot dog rolls,thin slices of bread and wheat English muffin surely not organic wheat! The bread is from a company that sell ir to supermarkets everywhere of the conventional! I don't like the container it is in of the black plastic that is used to withstand heat. And to suggest or have direction to warm up this food in the microwave for breakfast, lunch abd dinner is unhealthy! Of course it is "convenient " to warm food up in a conventional microwave oven but all that rays of microwave changes the molecules of food and on top of that in plastic that covers the food and the consitation droplets of steam from heat infused into the food! Yuck! I know lot of seniors may live alone and may not have family around or aids or even educate them to eat food healthier for sustainable health! And the way the box comes with all of that Styrofoam, those gel filled frozen bags to keep the food cold until it is get to your home is a pain and too much trash! Why filled gel in a bag the size of 8x11 bag freeze it and has on the bag, do not pour down your drain, dispose at curbside. Well of course you can't empty the gel out the bag onto the street that will create a mess! I have to let the gel melt first then I put the (4) bags in a small trash bag abd then a big 30 gallon size trash bag to make sure it will not leak! Well a bag got a small tear in it and it leaked into my trash can! What a mess to clean it out after the trash was picked up! Why the heck use gel to fill up bags to freeze to use to keep food cold! Wouldn't water be easier to use to freeze and pack with the food? I assume the Mom's food company think it water will leak or a hole get in and it will wet everything. How about usi g the silver insulated bags for frozen food? WHOLEFOODS uses them. It is less bulk to use inside of the box and seal it up. I have to breK down the box,crunch up the Styrofoam and fold up the silver bag and giant plastic bag the food comes in. It is a lot! Packaging need to be thought out more. read more

I have Systemic Mastocitosis and Celiac Disease and was referred to them for their gluten free menu. Systemic Mastocitosis is much worse than Celiac as intake of gluten can put me onto full blown organ failure. Since I've been getting the meals I've been getting sicker and sicker. UTI, a more fatigue, increases pain, hives, worsening of my immune compromisation etc I assumed it was just my disease and I had hit a rough patch with all the setbacks so had been seeing doctors a lot more. About three weeks ago I started wondering if my body didn't like all the preservatives, artificial stuff and high sugars in the meals because they ate far from healthy if you take the time to read the nutrition facts. Today I got the pork taco kit and opened the tortias and instead of them bering yellowish and thin like corn tortias the were white and fluffy. I called the company and they had sent me Flour tortias. All this time I've been getting sick and I've told myself it's not cross contamination because they say they follow FDA regulations. Yeah right. I don't think they were even tested and verified as gluten free at this point. The lady told me today everyting comes from the same comvayer lines rather it's gluten free or not. Now I'll be canceling my meals and they are very lucky I didn't get to the point where organs shut down beyond repair because someone could literally file a lawsuit over that neglect and blatant lying about being under ppm of gluten per meal. You don't say that just to get business. They could kill someone. Celiac can go into GI distress and over time develop cancers from exposure to gluten. Systemic Mastocitosis patients can literally die. Luckely I'm medicated but I medicated, some can die on the first exposure. That's not anyting to joke about to get business. If I could give them no stars I would because all these doctors I've been seeing since I started getting their meals aren't free. read more

I make this review based on my mom's experience so far with Mom's Meals. I listen to the calls on speaker and the representatives are terrible. They're uncaring and when trying to explain certain concerns, they don't seem to want to listen to my mom's concerns. They deliver the food a day late and when calling to find out what the hold up is, they make excuses for their shipping company and make it sound as if you're causing trouble for them. The food, like any other processed/packaged foods, some are good I suppose (I take a taste here and there) but the rest of the meals taste like cardboard and have no flavor but when trying to put in different orders, there isn't much of a choice considering their menu options. They have an online menu, right with loads of options, right? Cool. That's great. A variety. HOWEVER...the online menu isn't available for everyone! When my mom asked about that, wanting to try something different other than what's on the menu they send her in the box which isn't much. The thing is, the online menu is for individuals that can afford to pay out of pocket for those meals and basically, the meals that are listed on the menu sent in the box, are for those who have the Medicaid programs that pay for it. That's unfair! Completely unfair and prejudice against seniors or those who need the meals/programs. It's discriminatory in a way, favoring those with money to pay meaning the wealthy seniors/individuals. They probably get the higher quality meals but because a person's on a program that helps pay for the foods, seniors get thrown sh*t and crap like dogs with a bone so it seems. So for now, my mom's stuck with what she's given but I don't think that's going to last very long! read more

If I could give minus 5 stars, I would! Customer service (at higher, mgmt level) is horrible. I received Mom's Meals service through my insurance company after being released from hospital. Mom;s Meals called to set up my meals much later than I needed - 2 WEEKS after I was released. I was informed I would be receiving a 25 lb box from Mom's Meals. I informed them that according to doctor's orders, I wasn't supposed to lift more than 5 lbs, and could they at least break up the shipment into two boxes? They didn't care, and the answer was NO. Also, I was not given any meal choices. Received shipment - a box full of nothing that I would ever eat - 7 awful, unappealing breakfasts - all the same kind - ditto for the disgusting looking (white with some yellowish-tan sauce/gravy on top) lunches & dinners, AND with no menu to make meal choices. I called, and after hearing that I had received no menu, the rep & I spent 45 minutes in which she described my different choices, and together we placed my next order. I was really looking forward to the upcoming shipment, but when it arrived, guess what? The same exact box I received the first time, with NO MENU once again! I called Mom's Meals to see what they were going to do about this, and, after the rep spoke with her manager, the answer was.. absolutely NOTHING (no credit, no replacement shipment, nothing)!!! I then told them that I was completely disgusted with their company's (lack of) customer service, and wished to cancel. The cust svc rep then told me that upon my request, she had sent an email to the proper dept, & my account was now canceled. Whew, one less annoyance,and done! But noooo, later that day, I received a voicemail saying "If you want to cancel, I'm here to help you do that". This was on a Friday. I called them back on Monday and had to repeat the details of my experience once again, to this new rep - but we weren't finished yet - I then had to repeat it AGAIN, to HER manager, and all of this just to cancel (as I had ALREADY DONE in the previous phone call). Adding insult to injury, once this was done, the manager rudely hung up in my face while I was trying to hang up graciously, while saying "Have a nice day". Don't let the hype fool you - Mom's Meals doesn't care at all about their customers - what a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! read more

t seems that their delivery people are not reliable since I now have 2 deliveries that are gone astray, which is strange because the first delivery to my door (as per my contract through my insurance which apparently from other reviews is not as favored as other insurances by Mom's Meals, although I'm sure Mom's Meals is definitely getting their billing paid by my insurance) was not a problem at all. Neither I nor my condo have moved from the original location so why are the second and third deliveries not being made exactly as the first one was? Someone is getting the meals that I have paid for and the only response from Mom's Meals is that they will look into it. Oh, yes, they are now trying to get my meals delivered by FedEx instead of the third company business that has been assigned to deliver in my location in southern California. As I am very very low on meals and cannot drive to get groceries and have a limited income that needs to be spent on other bills like gas and electric, I can't just order online from the grocery store and pay for delivery of THAT food as well. I am NOT happy while I am slowly being starved AND paying for someone else to eat my delivered food. Hope everyone is satisfied that I am going hungry while they are all taken care of. I guess after reading all the terrible reviews I should've known better. This was not a pleasant experience. My first shipment featured a dented meal and applesauce leaking all over the place. I called their esteemed customer service, and the representative acted like it was no big deal. She offered a refund of $6.99, when in reality the meal sold for $7.99. My second shipment included a delightful molded orange. I also noticed that once you become a customer, the hold times to talk with customer service increases. Upon the second problematic order I promptly called and terminated future shipments. If they're willing to send out molded fresh fruit what does that say for the actual refrigerated meals? Are they sitting around in a hot warehouse? And seriously, the "meals" they tout are loaded with sodium. It's also hysterical that they tout a barbecue chicken meal; the promotional photo for the meal suggests it's an actual chicken breast. What you ultimately wind up with is a pre-processed formed rubbery patty (of something) with phoney grill marks on one side. Mom's meals seems to love the artificial grill marks as they put them on several different "meats". They also specialize in drowning their nasty tasting meals in awful, disgusting sauces presumably to cover up said nasty taste. Buyer beware on so many fronts! read more
