Although the server was helpful it took forever for us to get our food. We even ended up leaving because of it. My husband went to the counter to tell them we changed our minds but no one ever came back to the counter. Before that while we were waiting for our food, most of the workers in the back were eating food while walking around in the back. This is a local Pizza spot in Norfolk. The atmosphere is a family owned establishment, that treats their guest like family. I came in on Thursday for lunch with my son and tried their lunch specials $3 burger with a $1 slice of pizza for a guest. Now That's a great deal. The service was friendly and willing to serve. I was searching for an authentic Italian restaurant that's locally owned in Norfolk. Google took me here. I saw they had a special on Friday's, $12.95 rib eye with two sides. I was not disappointed! EVERY time I order my rib eye, Mike makes sure it's made the way I want, he knows what's he's doing back there! The lasagna was tasty and not over tasting of tomatoes. The portions of their food are on point! Crystal, Angel and Maymay (? Spelling) are very friendly. I give them a 10/10 for overall customer service, prices that are budget friendly and the food! Do not bring kids here!! The parking lot is dark and sketchy. Check out the cardboard rest room sign with shared sink by the tile wall outside the actual potties. The problems have nothing to do with the staff. It is old and rundown and needs to be redone or rebuilt entirely. No one came, and we finally asked one of the line cooks who directed us to "ask one of the girls", and pointed to the open doorway to the club, with its loud, thumping jams. Waitress is also one of the 2 bartenders in the very busy club, and she was as nice as she could be. (We left 100% tip for her.) Sis ordered a house cab, and we were told they had no red wine. So she ordered Pinot Grigio, and were told they were out of white wine too. "Do you have any wine?" "No, they don't come til next week". Why didn't she just say that instead of this little banter? Anyhoo... "Can the full bar make a martini?" "We're out of olive juice too." Head slap. Sis ordered a cosmo, and the photo shows the multiple lipstick stains on the glass, which the waitress then transferred to plastic after a while when sis complained. A place I probably would pass up going down Military Hwy in Norfolk but I was with my best friend who said let's go to Mona Lisa they have the very best BLT pizza. Well, the place looks like a dive but in I go around 3 in the afternoon. We are greeted by this older women whom I later found was Mama by all. She told me at check out she was 81 and I told her I was 85. Anyway, we got a table and ordered the BLT pizza, one cheese burger shared and ice tea. Absolutely the best BLT pizza I have ever had. I really hesitate to give bad reviews unless I find something to be completely outrageous or didn't enjoy anything. I hesitate because I can imagine how hard it is to keep a business open. Seriously, they just thawed and tossed a few in. So you get no flavor from anything but the very plain alfredo sauce. Then I opened the breadstick... it's dry & overcooked. I had a sweet tooth, and I was really hoping for something better with the cannoli. After all, the online menu says it's made to order. Nope- fried bland crust filled with some weird bland white mouse with a few almost nonexistent specks of chocolate in it. It had a chalky aftertaste, so I didn't finish that either. My husband said the pizza lacked flavor. One positive is that the restaurant packaged the food for takeout very well. I appreciated the extra effort to wrap the containers so that no liquid would leak out. That's the only positive I can scrape up. So disappointing. So, I got a few things off Uber Eats from this place. I should have listened to these reviews on here. Cheese sticks are greasy, and they have a bad after taste. Mariana sauce was no better. Kinda tasted like Mint was in it? Just gross. The alfredo pasta IS as bad as it looks. So bland and like a glob of cheesy glue. The noodles were overcooked mush. This is a really divey, hole-in-the-wall type of place. The side you walk into is for regular dining, and then a doorway to the other side leads to the bar and pool table. The "party side", you could call it. Came here for the second time the other night because I remember the Stromboli being amazing. We ordered it and it's still damn good. There was a football game on so it was pretty loud in there with cheering fans. Didn't bother me, but may be too much for others. The bartender was super busy; I think she may have been the only one working that side so it took a while for her to get to us for our order but she was very nice. The Stromboli is HUGE! What a difference a year makes. A year ago I gave this place a 5 star review. The food was amazing (the Saturday night shrimp scampi special was to die for with a depth of flavor that was unreal) as was the service (an experienced server who worked the restaurant and the bar side without missing a beat). We have been back a couple of times and experienced the same. Tonight? Not even close. It was like we stepped into the twilight zone. We walked in and seated ourselves. A few minutes later so did another family. And then we all waited. And waited. Finally our server came out of the bar and brought menus to all. We got our drinks and placed our orders, as did the other table. And then we waited. And waited. Our server showed up from the bar side carrying a baby. She didn't came to our table - just stood there talking to what I think was a delivery driver, before disappearing back to the bar side. Meanwhile, drinks were empty and still no food - no garlic knots as an appetizer, no salads....and no server. I finally got up and walked to the bar side where our server was chit chatting with people. She asked what I needed - I asked for drink refills. Here's how the food finally came out. Garlic knots and the spaghetti and meatball entree my son ordered. Then our salads. Hubby ordered French dressing - it came with one French and one thousand island. At least the salads were fresh. Then came my hubby's Italian feast - with a few shreds of mozzarella on top. We had just gotten our salads. I should have known it wasn't going to go well when the server went up to the open kitchen to yell "I still need that scampi," and the cook replied, "that's shrimp right?" It finally came out and it was beyond horrid. First, not only did they not shell the shrimp, the legs were still on. They obviously took steamers and just through it in a pan. Gone was that amazing scampi sauce with the depth of flavor I had had in the past. I couldn't even tell you what it was. Our server didn't check to see if everything was ok. So the drinks sat empty and my dish u touched. She did walk around the dining room with the baby though. When our server finally showed up to clear our plates she saw mine was untouched, she thought I was still eating. I told her she could take it and showed her the shrimp, she said "ew yeah that's gross." Guess what? It was still on the bill and no apologies whatsoever. But since we had bought a Groupon that was expiring, we went there. They had 2-3 servers, but most of the tables were not cleaned. This appeared to be a family run business with a relaxed environment with a little child less than 1 year old on the pool table. We ordered jalepeno poppers (3 stars), garlic knots (2 stars), chicken wings - caribbean (1 star)/old bay (3 stars). After reading some of the reviews, my review is based on the actual food I received since I've never stepped foot in the restaurant. I ordered food from here on UBEREats a couple weeks ago and the garlic knots were amazing! Just soooo yummy. However, the Chicken Alfredo lacked in flavor. Kinda bland, more buttery than cheesy in the cream. And it probably had 2 shakes of salt and pepper. Food is food, so I ate it anyway, but I didn't get to really enjoy it as much though.. besides those garlic knots. I would order just those again if I could! For an Italian restaurant that offers delivery, I suggest throwing in some Parmesan packets and salt and pepper, if possible. The place is awful. It is dirty. The food is disgusting. I have gone often to the Mona Lisa's in Virginia Beach and it is a fine local restaurant with well-prepared​ food. The Norfolk location is nothing like that. The veal was uneatable gristle​, the eggplant did not exist in the eggplant parm. The side of spaghetti was dried and hard. The chicken alfredo was flavorful but the chicken was tough and the sauce lumpy. The garlic bread was wrapped in aluminum and squashed into skinny pieces. There was vulgarity in the dining room and a fight outside the front door. I definitely would not recommend, nor would I return. I told the cook that we would take it to-g​o, since there was no waitress around. He unbelievably scraped it with his hand into a styrofoam container. I learned an important lesson from this eating experience.... check Yelp BEFORE ordering from DoorDash. DoorDash has this as a 4.5 star restaurant!!! I ordered the Lasagna and meatballs. As with most Italian Restaurants, I expected a salad and some bread to accompany it. No salad!! I did get two burnt pieces of bread crust. I attempted to lick it but it was hard and cold! The lasagna had VERY VERY little cheese on top. It could've used some salt, Italian seasoning, garlic, pepper, onion, sugar..... something! The meatballs were mushy! Even though I was hesitant I went ahead and ordered a calzone, which looked great in the pictures,but was disappointing. The calzone was doughy and uncooked with barely any sauce. I had also ordered garlic knots and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks where soggy, pale and overall sad to look at. They tasted of nothing and had no type of crisp or crunch to them. Finally the garlic knots were overwhelming. They needed more garlic sauce and they were over cooked. My family and I ordered a sandwich, pizza, and salad while on vacation on 8/14 at around 7:30 pm and to say it was disappointing is an understatement. The only thing we were able to stomach the taste on was the salad. The pizza was by far the worst I have ever tasted and couldn't make it through one slice. We could have had better taste/quality with a frozen variety. The cheese was not fully cooked and still looked like mozzarella strings on top. The overall taste was horrible and the sandwich was so sloppy and soggy that only half of it could be eaten. If negative stars could be given, they'd be well deserved. Whoever give this place 4 stars must own the business. I got the "chicken"Alfredo in addition to spaghetti and "meat"balls. The food taste like paper. The "chicken"looks like bulk pre cooked "chicken" purchased at a discount that they tossed in a microwave and the sauce was just tasteless. They did not use fettuccine noodles but thin noodles which when added to the heavy bland sauce and gross chicken made the noodles TOO mushy while the chicken was chewy. I mean I couldn't swallow a fork full. So the "chicken"Alfredo is going into the trash. I'm not even going to try the spaghetti and "meat" balls. I don't believe I've committed any crime horrible enough to attempt this dry mess. I can not believe with all the decent restaurants closing down this place is open. After finding hair in the food (twice), there was no offer to reimburse or remake. It was shrugged off as if it were the norm. Personnel take money and then touch food without gloves. The place is pretty dirty, ceiling is covered in dust, tables were sticky, and everything had an overall dingy feel. We ordered the steak and cheese sub and Hawaiian calzone. The sub had very little meat on it and all together lacked any flavor. The calzone was doughy on the ends, had red sauce in it (not traditional calazone), and the sauce served on the side tasted bad, just like a packet of dried herbs. But the filling was plentiful and the cheese to meat ratio was good. Our server was good but the others were loud. One girl getting off her shift was standing at the front door and yelling back to the kitchen staff, pretty rude to do that in front of customers.
