I've been going to Monovala Pizza for a number of years. I believe they are consistently among the better small, primarily take-out restaurants I've experienced. The food - I've had their pizza, salads, sandwiches, and Buffalo wings - is good quality and tastes great. And, in some ways more importantly, all the staff members I've encountered have uniformly been friendly, helpful, and extremely intent upon providing exactly what you ordered and done in the way you like it. I strongly recommend Monovala Pizza as a welcoming and quality (primarily) take-out restaurant. (I believe they do provide delivery though I've never used that service.) read more

This was our go-to pizza for several years, but the last one we bought (most expensive on the menu) was --- I hate to say it --- was lousy, Very sparse toppings and non-nondescript sauce and cheese. Walked in, ordered 2 cheese slices to go, staff was very courteous but the pizza was inedible. I was super excited to try it based on the other reviews but you can see in the picture how undercooked the pizza was. The dough underneath was white also, just burnt edges. I've been ordering from this establishment faithfully for over a year now but today when I called to place an order for delivery all of a sudden there's a minimum fee of $17. It's just me and my toddler and I don't need that big of a pizza and I've never had this issue before. So I changed it to the next size up and then I say I'll be paying with a card as usual (because who's touching cash during this pandemic ) and he proceeds to tell me it's an additional $1.50 to use my card! Again never happened to me before. I do not recommend you order from here if you're planning on spending less than $30 on pizza. Or at least order through Yelp instead of calling them directly. It's much cheaper to do so and you won't be charged to use your card. They've become a real money hungry establishment and their pizza is subpar at best. A night alone with the baby, I was starving, didn't want to cook or pack my daughter up to go out. Luckily Monavala offered free delivery to my area and Yelp had just sent me a coupon code the same day! It's like it was a sign haha. I used the online ordering to order my white pizza, BBQ wings, and vanilla cupcakes. I ordered my pizza thin crust and with mushrooms added. It was great! The wings were delicious too. The cupcakes were nice and moist, without frosting which is how I like it. I thought offering cupcakes was random, but it's cool, especially since I was in the mood. Tonight I used the Eat24 Yelp app to order from Monavala, because it is close to me, has good reviews, and they deliver. Since it was pouring rain the delivery was key. For some reason the app. Did not let me specify delivery or order pick- up resulting in it being assumed that I would pick up my order. I'm not sure how complicated my order of three pizzas would take a half hour to walk out, but we're still waiting after this time. I guess I shouldn't worry. Now that I think about it, I ordered pizzas and we're expecting them to be done. I'm starving and want my pizza. After leaving, and eating, we discovered two of them were not gluten free, as requested. It's partially my fault, but I'm only the one who ordered. Not being intolerant, I can handle it, but many cannot. I'm "only" sensitive to the contaminants commonly found in today's diet, but some absolutely cannot. I understand there are language barriers living in Southern California and I don't want to blame the miscommunication on the business. I'm just requesting more thorough training that will be useful as more of us realize what gluten does. The pizza was excellent, I just want to bring it to attention. read more

This small restaurant is mainly for takeout but they do have a couple of small tables with chairs to eat there. The menu consists of pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salad. I had pasta and salad, but later wished I had ordered pizza and salad. The pasta was extremely over cooked and they were kind enough to make me a different piece of chicken since the first one they made was terribly over cooked and dry. So I don't know if the Italian Gods we're playing around but I bet one of them was like "hey..watch this.." and threw down with a fiery god like smack..that happens to be Monavala Pizza here in El Cajon. I went in craving a slice of Heaven..and I was welcomed with a smile which happens to be the owner Mike K. Greeting customers as if they were his family and felt like he was a brother....or maybe an Italian God in disguised who knows. But I ordered there special which is a slice of pizza and a soda and I ended up getting two slices and a Can. One slice was pepperoni..other's was sausage with pineapple...50 cents extra topping. All came to $6.00. As I was waiting sitting on a huge comfy couch..the inside was very homey...and comfortable...smell of lingering fresh pizza being baked in the oven. When it was done I was so ready to sink my teeth into this slice of heaven...when I opened it...OMG it was a huge slice...cheesy..gooey...just perfect. Two big slices and a soda for 6 bucks..not bad. First bite was heaven..crispy..sweet and robust from the sauce...saltiness from the cheese complimented the sweetness of the pineapple. Picking it up it did not! Hang loose and the toppings fell off..it held everything together and I could not stop eating it...idk if Mike kidnapped an Italian Angel...threw it in the meat grinder and dough maker and turned it into the best slice I've ever had...man...it was so good...i wanted to sew my ass shut to keep the pizza in me forever #HowimetyourmotherReference. After the two slices and a can....I WAS SATISFIED and FULL!!!! I gotta say this beats New York or Any East coast pizza...YES I SAID IT! I'm sorry hahaha. Food was ice cold. The Cesar salads had no dressing and they never use the deliver app that they say goes with it so you can only see that the order is in the works.
