    1 Percent Check Cashing

They charged me 3.5% on my check--way more than the advertised "1 percent." When I questioned it, they had some excuse ready, but it felt like classic bait-and-switch to get customers in the door. In California, state law caps check-cashing fees for payroll and government checks at 3% with proper ID (like a CA driver's license) or 3.5% without ID, whichever is greater than the $3 minimum. Charging over that is illegal. This place's whole marketing angle is misleading. If you're going to charge the legal maximum (or push the limits), don't call yourself "1 Percent Check Cashing." It's false advertising and a waste of time for working people who need their money fast without getting ripped off. Save yourself the hassle and look for a bank, credit union, or a more transparent option like Walmart or your employer's direct deposit. Not worth it.
