Puffin tour was so fun! Their boat is smaller than other tours, which means not having to jockey for position to spot wildlife. Provided binoculars were a wonderful bonus. We saw puffin, seals, porpoises and many other varieties of bird. There was also a demonstration of checking lobster traps. The guide was super-friendly and knowledgeable about the wildlife, the history of the area, and many other topics that guests threw her way. I highly recommend this super trip! read more

I would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting to know how to get to Monhegan Island to look no further. From the moment I started emailing with questions 3 months before our trip, they were so friendly and accommodating. Then when the time came to actually go it was perfect! They take care of you with a smile. They tag your luggage and you never have to worry about it you can enjoy the breathtaking ride. the 70 minutes will fly by. They point out interesting things along the way but they don't yak on and on with too much incessant information. you can relax and enjoy the journey. I have mobility issues and they have a golf cart and they'll take you and your luggage to and from your car if you need it. We stayed for the weekend so we had a different boat coming and going. both were nice and comfortable. They had nice clean rest rooms too. read more

Everything. This is the ninth year I have sailed with MBL. Let me point out they are the farthest option for me to get to by 1.5 hours. I initially chose them because I love the facts that they support Monhegan's communities by being the only year round service, the mail and cargo supplier. So I was willing to drive the extra distance to support that. The MBL staff are personable, pleasant, professional and quietly competent. The shop, newly rebuilt after a terrible fire, is a nice cool, welcoming place, stocked with knickknacks , some essential's and some pretty cool books. The vessels are seaworthy and well maintained and well the Laura B she's an icon. In past years, MBL staff helped me immensely with my dog's medical emergency, and gained my loyalty from their incredibly kind actions. This year, they gained further loyalty and respect from me when I did something stupid and forgot an item in my vehicle that was important for my time on Monhegan. I was fully prepared to take a trip back in and out- losing half a day of precious island time in doing so, but when I spoke with Ann and then Maz in your office, they created a better option. Ann so casually just said just send your keys in with a note, we will get the item and send it back out by the end of the day.Maz and I'm sure others did so, so simply and kindly. I see how hard you folks work, how busy it gets, and you just extended this kindness when you didn't have to. Respect. I will say the lower parking lot always sketches me out a little. Very tight and steep, but that's rocky shore geography for you. Well done. I recommend your service to everyone I meet considering a trip to Monhegan, or to see puffins. read more

What a great experience riding the Monhegan boat line to and from Monhegan Island in Maine. We left out of Port Clyde. There aren't cars on the island so you park your car at the port and there it remains until you return back to the mainland. The staff on land were super friendly and the staff on the boat were great, especially on the way to the island the weather was a bit foggy and the seas a little choppy, they came around to check on people. I don't have much experience with boats so we sat in the back outside and with the waves I got wet up to my knees. Haha The ride back was much more pleasant, sunny and we were able to see many of the landscape and other islands and sea life we couldn't see on the way there due to the fog. read more

The Puffin Cruise was just right for us-around a two hour commitment. Nice trip out to some islands-lots of puffins, seals, an Osprey and a huge juvenile bald eagle! Also a cool and informative lobstering demo. The gal doing most of the speaking was fabulous. Nice, and we learned lots of interesting things. One piece of advice though-bring binoculars! Hard to see the puffins because you can't (nor would you want to) get too close. But that was my own lack of being prepared. I did Take some pics and could zoom In and sort of make out that they were puffins. Such a great "nature comeback" story. Still a very enjoyable trip- I highly recommend. The company did a great job of everything-from Helping people find a parking space to their pleasant and helpful demeanors. read more

This is a first class operation, the staff is super friendly, big focus on efficiency from parking cars to getting luggage on board to loading passengers, exactly on time. The ride out was pea soup fog but when Nigh Duck island came out of the fog there was a big hoorah on board from the folks who live on island. Great crew, beautiful part of the country. It was a windy day on our way to the Island, with lots of big rolling swells and a pretty bumpy ride. A few landlubbers on the boat got seasick but the crew was wonderful - quick cleanup of a few messes, and overall good spirits and support for the passengers. Anyhow, we thought it was a fun ride, gorgeous too, even if a little exciting. The ride back was quite calm, relative to the ride out. read more

We greatly enjoyed our trip to Monhegan Island. This boat line was very organized so Check-in was very easy. The online reservation was easy to use and I called after we had reservations to add our dogs on the trip. Reasonable charge for the dogs. How you get on or off the boat may require using stairs. We had to carry our dogs on the stairs. They are smaller dogs so it was fine. Had a beautiful day as far as the weather. Went in mid-September. Had rain on day before and day after so we were fortunate. read more

We took the Puffin Cruise and it was a wonderful nature cruise. We saw seals, puffins and other water fowl and even saw a very rare Sunfish. During the cruise, they hauled a lobster trap and educated those aboard on lobstering. We learned about the neighboring islands and cruised by two lighthouses, including the Marshall Point Lighthouse. It was an immensely informative and enjoyable day on the water with an amazing crew on a really lovely mailboat. Back at the dock, they have an amazing gift shop that is scented like pine and filled with treasures for all ages. read more

I took the boat on a day with a lot of swells and I was impressed with the way the captain took us through with very little 'bounce'. I also appreciated his explanation of how wearing our masks was a signal of care--not only for ourself but also for others. He used the word 'love' which I think is true and very moving. Thanks, captain. I wish everyone spoke as you do---so openly. The boat was clean, the crew was quick and efficient, the man organizing the parking was super cute and got me a spot asap even though I looked a bit confused. If you want to get to Monhegan Island, this is the way to go. I recently had the pleasure of spending some time on Monhegan. The Monhegan Boat Line was a wonderful, fun way to get there. Even though this is the middle of the Covid pandemic, the Ferry was clean, with clean bathrooms and everyone was wearing a mask. I felt very safe. The 12 mile ride out to the island was fun. This trip was not the best for views as it was very foggy but it was no problem for the Captain. This is a wonderful, safe, way to travel. read more

Everyone I encountered from the person who answered my questions on the phone, to the ladies at the ticket office, to the crew was helpful and very nice. The boats are older so don't expect lots of creature comforts (the seats on the bow were cushions on top of mild crates!), but that's part of the charm and experience. I actually chose Monhegan Boat Line because of the boats they use. The cruise to Monhegan Island provides a beautiful view of the Maine coast and its islands.
