There will be no review that embodies how amazing Dr. Crooks is. Dr. Crooks is one of the best cosmetic dentist in town with many years of experience. She is a bubbly, approachable, and great company. The Staff: When I first arrived, the front desk was ready to greet me and take me where I needed to go. During the procedure, Joey was one of the assistants helping Dr. Crooks and he is super friendly and very attentive to every patient. He made the procedure very smooth and was effective in getting me in and out of the office. The Office: The office is off of Howe Ave with plenty of parking with the office located upstairs. There are stairs and elevator access! They have a space when you first enter the office for kids to explore and have fun. The Doctor: As I mentioned above, I had Dr. Crooks during my visit and she was amazing! She has the brightest smile and the friendliest persona. Since my first appointment she was condescending and made me feel like a child. She scolded me after I said I could feel pain (I thought some pain was normal to feel, I got fillings as a child and remember the same pain and thought it was normal) she said "you need to tell me! We can get in trouble if we don't numb you!" She was annoyed the whole rest of the visit and I was physically shaking and silently crying out of fear and embarrassment. My partner was with me for moral support and after we left he was furious at her attitude as well. The next time I got a cleaning with Erik which was fine he was very kind. On June 24th I came in "to get looked at" (because of an email I send the night before). I arrive and I'm taking to the back room and Eric numbs me to which I responded "oh what are they doing I thought I was only gonna be here for 30 minutes?" The reason I wanted to know exactly how long I was going to be there was because I am a social worker and had a home visit at 12 and did not want to be swollen!! He gets the doctor and she comes and I ask her the same question and tell her it's because I have to go to work and I was only allowed 30 minutes. She explained to me that I AM THE ONE who wanted to come in and that my tooth is starting to decay and my gums are inflamed because I have not been brushing. (Which that side of my teeth had not been cleaned so the plaque she was referring to was from years and years of not seeing a dentist.) I tell her I have been brushing and that it's very painful but everyday I still continue to try to keep it clean. That it had been a week and it was starting to concern me and that's why I went in and I ask her what all we are going to do because (1) I have work and the home visit with my family and 2) I'm terrified to be alone here 3) if she is rude again I wanted my partner here with me to hear as well) and she says "DO YOU WANT ME TO FIX IT OR NOT??" I was furious and let her finish and left as soon as it was done. She scolded me on my birthday! Sent me to work in tears and puffy eyed and numb for that visit with my client! All for wanting to know the exact details of what was going to happen that day! Since then I have read her negative reviews and have decided to never go to her again. It's funny because if you look through her reviews multiple people say that she is rude as fuck 3 years ago!! Nothing has changed I guess. Since canceling all future appointments with her she has emailed me multiple times to try to reel me back in. She says she is truly concerned and wants to help me but fuck that I already have plans to see someone else. And her response about her attitude? She apologized that I was "offended by the diagnosis", the fuck. No, it was the condescending tone and the fact that she raised her voice at me! My review: My experience has been great. Dr. Crooks is amazing! It's very apparent that she cares about her patients and her craft. She takes her time, encourages questions, and kid friendly. She was very kind to my 4 year old son during his visit. She educated him and me on his teeth and which areas to pay special attention to. I was able to see my son's x-rays and was amazed to see all of his adult teeth right behind his baby teeth growing big and strong. Even when I had a question about an adult tooth that looked different from the rest (it was a little crooked), one of the staff reassured me that it's ok and it may even turn by the time it grows out. Thank you Dr. Crooks and the wonderful stuff for being sensitive to needs and delicate with my baby. My son's review: "I liked watching transforms in the chair. The first time I saw her, it was for laser treatment of an impending cold sore - like, it had started forming and everything. I was SURE it was going to be just awful, and I sought out Dr. Crooks as a last-ditch effort to stop it. Dr. Crooks did a laser treatment that was painless and only took a few minutes. I was thinking there was no way it would work. That cold sore was coming up fast. But within a half hour of the laser treatment, I noticed that the spot didn't really hurt anymore. And - the best part - the cold sore never erupted! Even though it had already started and I thought there was no turning back, the laser treatment completely stopped it. There was a little redness for a day and then, nothing. It was like a freaking miracle. Since then, I've been back for treatments a couple more times - whenever I felt a cold sore looming/beginning. It has worked EVERY TIME. So, if you get periodic cold sores, like I have since childhood, stop suffering. This is - hands down - the best way I've ever found to treat them, with no outbreak or healing time involved. Oh, and even though I live 45 minutes away, Dr. Crooks is my regular dentist now too - because she's awesome. :) read more

I was really excited at first to try this place out. The website had an energetic feel and the new patient cleaning special was great! What should have been a great day quickly turned into a nightmare from which I still haven't awoken. Due to a damaged wheel stop in their parking lot, I was greeted with a nice-sized crack in my front bumper as I pulled in. I talked to Dr. Crooks about the situation but it is my opinion that she brushed me off instead of addressing my issue. I ended up contacting my insurance who, on my behalf, contacted this company to see if they would cover my damage. My insurance company told me Dr. Crooks' office refused to do so. At this point I felt I was brushed off twice by Dr. Crooks, so I posted this story here on Yelp to warn others. Dr. Crooks contacted me directly and sent me several aggressively-worded emails about why I needed to take it down. Since she admitted fault and promised to have her insurance cover me, I agreed to change the content of my review and I even bumped it up to 3 stars (neutral). I told her once my bumper was fixed I would even edit my review to have a positive rating. As of June 22, 12:44am, Dr. Monica Crooks threatened to take legal action against me because she felt my show of good faith in changing my review wasn't good enough. I don't know what kind of dentist threatens to take legal action against their own patients for expressing their opinions but I feel it is my duty to warn Sacramento of this one. I am a new patient in Dr. Monica Crooks' office. I had a teeth cleaning and an initial exam with Dr. Crooks and was very impressed by her. Shortly after that, I had a tooth break. Dr. Crooks office referred me to another dentist in her practice by the name of Katerina Koleva. Dr. Koleva is a wonderful dentist! She removed the old filling, using precautionary measures to protect me from any toxic debris, then prepared and affixed a temporary cap. Three weeks later, I went back and she put in the permanent crown, color-matched to my other teeth. She was careful in giving me the numbing shots, which barely hurt at all. And I felt no pain at all during the procedures. She placed a protective shield in my mouth just in case the crown might slip. (It didn't.) Dr. Koleva kept me informed every step of the way what she was doing and was kind and reassuring in her manner. I think she's an excellent dentist! And her assistant, Edie, was also very good! I was praying her office accepts Medi-cal. Sadly for me and my dental emergency , They do not. Being without proper insurance is absolutely horrible. My favorite dentist in the whole world! In fact, the only dentist I've ever even liked! Comfort is a top priority at her office, she is great about checking in to make sure you're doing ok. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and comes up with effective solutions and doesn't hesitate to act quickly! Some dentists will try to drag out your treatments into excessive amounts of appointments, but Dr. Crooks is all about action, not about wasting time. Back in 2015 I had heard of the snap in smile and found good rating for Dr.Monica Crooks. I was very nervous, but once the snap in smile came in I was amazed. And just like anything you have to get use to it, it felt heavy and my mouth would get tired. Took about three weeks when I noticed I now was forgetting I had it on. She, told me it would not last too long. But I took very good care of the Snap in Smile . Best money I have ever spent. It was beautiful. Just went in November 2020 and we are now doing permanent bridges and front veneers and bottom removable bridges. We are doing all these in sections as this is the only way I could afford, the impressions she took was from my snap in smile that i still was wearing and looking great, since the look of them I felt was always perfect for my face. And since we are doing my permanent bridges by sections she is cutting my snap in smile as we go. So now I current use the four front teeth. I recommend Dr. Monica Crooks. Answers every question you have, ask all the questions you want even if you think they might be silly. She and Joey are there to ease your nerves. read more

I am very disappointed with this dentist office. Dr. Crooks does amazing work however, her office manager, Kelly, is not only unprofessional and rude but cultivates that behavior within the other staff members. I had work done in October of last year, she failed to bill appropriately to my insurance and upon researching with my insurance company and Dr. Crook's office I ended up speaking with Kelly. Kelly, not only had an attitude but when I brought it to her attention that it was unnecessary and not professional she was increasingly rude. I mentioned I would like to speak with Dr. Crook's about this and she said she would give a message. I told her that I would call Dr. Crook's and schedule a conversation with her. Kelly is the front line of this office and is displaying childlike behavior not only to myself but to other clientele which is going to hurt the business in the long run. This is not the first time I have dealt with Kelly. I spoke with her in July while I was pregnant and they rescheduled my appointment via text for a day I was in the Bay Area for work. I called back and they said they have a 24 hour cancellation policy etc. I told her my original appt was for a different day and I did not agree to the new day. I eventually had to speak with Dr. Crook's herself who was amazing and apologetic for Kelly's disposition. Monica Crook's then rescheduled my appt and when I came in for my cleaning was again apologetic to what had happened. I will start off by saying that Dr. Crooks and her team are the best dental office in town. I found out about Dr. Crooks from a friend who works there. I went in because I knew I needed some fillings. After my cleanup it was determined that I needed a few fillings. I scheduled my first filling early November and got three of the teeth done. While I didn't experience much pain, I had the worst fear of "going to the dentist" and needles. The fillings were done in about 45 minutes but it felt like an eternity. I was numb for a few hours and I had a smell/after taste in my mouth. All went as well as it could have and I was ready for my next three visits. Today I went in for round two of four. I was told that there was a new laser machine that could be used for my fillings. I was told that I didn't need any shots. No needles!!! They said it was going to be painless. My response was "I am sceptical but why not". After about 20 minutes in my mouth everything was done. At one point I did feel a zing but as soon as Dr. Crooks noticed she backed off and took a new approach and got the area done. The only thing I could feel was water swishing on my tooth and it was over. My fillings were done. I cannot say how different these two visits were. In the first visit I came home and went to bed. My jaw still a little irritated by the shots. This time, I was home and having lunch. It almost feels like I didn't even go to the dentist. If this is how the rest of my fillings bill go, I will have zero fear of getting the rest of my cavities filled. I am sold on this tech and I am so excited to share this with all of you. I've been going to see Dr. Crooks since we moved to California when I was a kid. I will say that it's a different experience as an adult. I wanted my wisdom teeth out, but I only have two and she said they were fine so we shouldn't remove them. Now unfortunately after I'm off my parents insurance, the others are coming in and it's too expensive to do anything about it right now. Which is what I was afraid of happening. N I also have some teeth I got fillings in that I can't floss between and I haven't been able to chew properly on my left side since I got the fillings in December. So I'm probably gonna get new cavities since proper care is uncomfortable. Which makes me wish I had skipped the whole process. And now I'll have to pay to have that looked at too just to find out what the problem is. She does great work, but if you've got a budget to be mindful of,that's definitely something to take into consideration before you make your appointment . Also no one ever calls to offer appointment cancellations even if they offer to. So if you're trying to get a last minute appointment, be sure to do your due diligence and make sure you call in the morning and ask about available appointments until you get one. This is a high quality dental office where the dentist do excellent work but, at a price higher than many other local dentists. However, the work that they do is also at a higher quality than many local dentists. Although my current income makes it difficult to pay for the dental work fees (even with my insurance), I still choose this dental office because the way I see it; if I am going to get permanent dental work done, than I want to have higher quality work done that will last permanently. Plus it looks better because they use White Resin Composite fillings instead of Metal Amalgam fillings (which supposedly are being phased-out worldwide due to their Mercury content). I didn't have a great experience. I went to Dr. Crooks for a "Snap on Smile" several years ago. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I looked like a horse! I feel that Dr. Crooks did not do her due diligence in assuring that I was given all important information, as well as all of my choices, when selling me this product. I was not given shape choices, which I came to find out there were many to choose from. Dr. Crooks just used the excuse that she herself was not supplied the information from the "Snap on Smile" representative- so therefore did not have it to give to me. This is unacceptable when touting a $1,500 device that she had plastered all over her website, as well as here on "Yelp".. When the device was delivered and I tried it on, I was horrified. Dr. Crooks attempted to file it down, then sent me home telling me I just needed to get used to it. Well, as soon as I got home-the plastic "teeth" cracked in half, due to her filing it down. I could have went back in and tried for a second pair, but I was disillusioned and embarrassed at this point. Dr. Crooks never really acknowledged that she did not have enough information about the product when selling it to me and I was made to feel as if "I" did something wrong. There was no empathy about it or urgency to get it corrected. I trusted the Doctor. I ended up throwing them away and just tried to forget about it. It had taken months to actually receive the device, so by the time I received it and saw the results- I was done! I know this review is from a few years ago, but it's taken me this long to try yet again to improve my smile and I came across Dr. Crooks' Yelp page. It hit a nerve I guess and I felt the need to let people know what my experience was. Obviously she is a talented dentist in a lot of ways-however, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth in that not only was the device not acceptable, but the total lack of accountability for what she delivered to me, put me off. Never before have I looked forward to going to a dentist until now! I have avoided the dentist for five years and always feared going to dentists because my poor dental hygiene would often leave me feeling judged and lectured, but not by Dr. Crooks and her staff. From Melody and Carol at the front desk to Stacey's delightful smile to Monica's radiant light and energy, this was an experience of pure joy! The staff is very friendly and non judgmental. At that moment you sit in her chair, you know you are in great hands. My wife and I were both stressed, both having horrendous experiences at previous dentist offices but now we have found the only dentist our family will ever go to in the Sacramento area. Her portfolio of smiles leaves you breathless. She is a true artist of teeth as is evident of her portfolio. You can see how much she has changed the lives of many people and I can't wait until my smile is transformed like her previous patients. Not only is the staff awesome and her dentistry work amazing, the office is decorated in Egyptian art and there is an amazing children's play area that looks right out of a story book! My wife and I stared in awe at the beautiful art and then we were greeted by the most delightful dentist and accomplished artist of teeth, painting and interior design I have ever met. We can't wait until we schedule our daughter so she can also see the beautiful interior design done by Monica herself. One might forget they were even there to get their teeth fixed. I used to be self conscious about my smile so I would put my hands over my mouth when I laughed and I would smile with my mouth closed. Then I had veneers applied to my teeth and now I smile and laugh as hard and wide as I wish. Now I receive so many compliments on my smile!
