I love supporting small businesses in the area when I visit, and so glad I stopped by this great little gem to pick up a dozen cupcakes to surprise some customers of mine at a local educational agency. The cupcakes were so pretty and the gentleman who helped me was so friendly! I didn't get to taste them myself but if they taste as good as they looked, my customers will be happy with this unexpected treat! They were a little difficult to find, with minimal signage. Monica did a smart thing building her business around Bundt®. There's a lot of types of cake that have a proper taste and texture - you're supposed to make it a certain way. Bundt® doesn't have that. In fact, Bundt® is a registered trademark of Nordic Ware and refers to the pan in which Bundt® cakes are cooked. Because there's no expectations, you can't really make any type of judgment on the technical proficiency of the resulting Bundt® cake aside from its inherent Bundt®-ness shape and the simple question of how good the Bundt® cake tastes. Personally, I find the Bundt® to be pretty good - moist, dense, and with a little tang from sour cream frosting - though even in mini-Bundt® form, the cake was a little too big for one serving. It didn't stop me from eating it in one serving, but I felt totes bad later in the day. The Bundt® cupcakes are a little better size, made with the same Bundt® batter, and with a slightly heavier frosting-to-cream ratio, if you're into that sort of thing. Plus, they have sprinkles and are usually a bit more adventurous in flavorings. Referring to the as cupcakes reinstates a little bit of that expectation, though, so when I took a bite of the cupcake, part of my brain was telling me that it was much too heavy for a cupcake, but I had to remember it was simply a Bundt® cake in cupcake form. Besides, Wichita missed most of the cupcake fad from a few years ago, so I'll take what I can get. The smartest thing Monica's could do was put her sweet Bundt® in Dillon's and local merchants like the neighboring Spice Merchant. It's where I got my samples, and it allows people to try a mouthful of Bundt® when they would otherwise be a little too intimidated to walk into the store and feel the mighty pull of the Bundt® imploring to be eaten. read more

Went in a few days ahead of time. I needed the cake for 9:00 am on a saturday. She said that someone would be there at 8:30 and I could pick it up then. I prepaid because she wasn't sure if the register would be open when my husband arrived. Saturday morning he picked up the cake no problem! It was pretty dang good too!!! read more

Rude store front manager, cake taste moedeocar, cake integrity poor. I ordered a cake in the shape of a koala for a baby shower. It was kind of cute, but looked more like Alf. I had someone with me to take it home. She placed it in her lap the whole way, however the nose started falling off before we got home. We put the cake in the refrigerator and took it out an hour later to fix the nose. But after setting on the counter for a while the ear fell off and the other wasn't far behind. One arm fell off before we arrived back at the store. When we arrived the store manager rudely asked how long the cake was out. She said it wasn't to be out for more than an hour. I told her this was for a party and it would be out at least that long. She agreed to fix it, so the next day my husband and son picked the repaired cake right before the party. Again she was very rude and acted like it was our fault. This time because of our bad driving. The cake was out an hour and a half and the nose started falling off again, and after a few more minutes the ear fell off. I tasted the cake and it was gritty...not good. read more

Monica's specializes in one thing, making mouth watering Bundt cakes. They range in size from the adorable "Runt Bundts" all the way up to a 10 in Bundt cake that can serve 16 people. She even makes "Bow Wow Bundts" for four legged fans. As soon as you enter the store you are greeted by Monica who makes the cakes herself, she is incredibly friendly as is the rest of her staff. If you go into her store on Douglass there are ample samples to try of the many delicious flavors. Each of the cakes are moist with a delicate crumb. There are new flavors every month to try. My personal favorite is the Carrot Cake, followed closely by the Chocolate Sour Cream, both are covered in her signature cream cheese frosting. The cakes hold up very well. Whenever my Dad visits he makes sure to pick up several to fly back to NJ with and they always make the trip. She even gives him special custom made travel boxes so that the cakes don't shift much during travel. Bottom line....if you need a cake for a get together, a snack or just want something that reminds you of what your Mom or Grandmother would make Monica's is the place to go. read more

Paid $25 +tax for a dozen mini bundt cakes for my daughter's birthday. It didn't taste good or was not very appetizing. They were basically mini upside down cupcakes w some buttercream. I think it tasted old. I asked if I could have the ones in the back, freshly made but she said no. We decided to stop by Monica's to try her bundt cakes. We got two different cakes and one of them was a carrot cake. I noticed that there was a sign next the register that said satisfaction guaranteed, so when we tried the carrot cake and it tasted more like a spice cake, I called the store and actually got to speak to the Monica. I told her that the cake didn't taste like carrot cake, but more like spice cake. Her response was "It is obvious then that you don't know what carrot cake tastes like." She did say that we could bring the cake back, per her policy, but based upon her comment, we haven't been back and won't ever be going back. read more

Ordered a chocolate cake a week ago for my birthday. They asked me when I wanted to pick it up? I told them I would be in today between 11 am and noon on my lunch break. My husband picked me up for lunch, I was so excited to go get my cake because I had called around and found a place that did sugar free cakes. I hadn't had cake for more than two years. I went in to pick up my cake, they said, "oh, we are just now baking it." So, what is the purpose of asking people when they want to pick it up, when you are not going to make it? They offered to give me a vanilla cake, the one I had specifically ordered was chocolate, but they just wanted to get rid of me. They were rude. My husband knew I was so disappointed, after he dropped me off back at work, he called around and found a place called Sugar Sisters. They said they normally need two days, but due to the circumstances, they would get one made right away. I had a wedding consul with monica. She is a little rough around the edges maybe even rude to some but omg her pink bubbly cup cake with that heavenly frosting (at room temp of course) is the best cup cake ive ever tasted. Its moist and has a light lemony flavor. Just try one. And if u want an added boost, get a frosting shot! Soooooooo delicious. Ive tried all the other flavors as well and they are moist and have very good flavor too. I was talked in to a lavender and honey cup cake that i did not finish but didnt take back. The shop is small and welcoming you just have to get past Monicas rough exterior and the help seems a lot clueless but the cup cakes are wel worth it. read more
