I have to say I went to Monkey Pants in the past with previous owners and did not have a great experience. But my husband and I went back today for the first time in years, and WOW!!! We had the BEST TIME!!! From the moment we walked in, great tunes, great vibes, great people but most of all, great staff! So friendly and welcoming! Firstly, if you don't like dive bars, bar food or half baked karaoke, then you may want to stay away. However, I really enjoyed this place. It is a great, inexpensive date spot, it is cozy and the staff took care of us. Their menu is large and we were happy with the food we received. The patrons at this bar seemed to be pretty diverse and overall friendly crowd. They have good weekly specials, including half priced wings on Tuesdays. The wings themselves were on par, maybe slightly worse then Wingstop. That is a not a bad thing, I was very happy with my order and the price was super reasonable. Two small tidbits you will find, one the stage itself, really isn't all that loud. You may be happy about this or kind of annoyed. As singers are singing to themselves more then anyone else. They aim the speakers at the singer to make it seem like you are louder then you are. Second, the men's restroom is really badly designed. Right when you walk into the bathroom the mirrors face the urinals in such a way I saw instant wang hanging out in the mirror. Both funny and alarming. Karaoke night Friday had about 80% male singers. DJ favored male singers repeated them before letting new people sing and the men messed with my mike twisting it so I couldn't free it up out of glaring lights. So loud my Apple Watch complained and a bad mix of voice and background music for women especially. read more

Kind of disappointing, we came in a party of 15 to celebrate a 21st birthday and the waiters were shocked about our reservation that we had. We called in advanced and they did not reserve a table for us. Our main reason for coming was for karaoke The host of karaoke seems to pick what song/who she likes. I had put in a song and other people who put songs in after me were getting a chance to sing. Unfortunately it is not a first come first bases. I loved the vibes but service needs to be worked on. There have been many Saturday nights filled with good times for my friends & me at Monkey Pants! Of course the major point of entertainment has been all of our terrible singing, but the karaoke nights are honestly the most fun at this local dive bar. It gets really busy so if you're planning on singing during karaoke, be prepared to wait. It's a bit unorganized at times but we all end up having a good time! While waiting, it's easy enough to get grab a drink & sing along with others. They're pretty good at keeping up with the crowd and they make strong drinks! Our drinks came out prompt and the order was correct so huge props to the staff on a busy night! Only complaint: Some bitter, battle axe of a woman approached us, spittling racist vitriol telling us we were in her chairs. I couldn't believe how bad she smelled even as she walked away screaming about refusing to pay her tab. Only the worst scum of the earth would neglect to tip on such a large bill on the busiest night of the week! And then to brag about it on the internet is repulsive. We had a tan going with another bartender for hours and then she showed up. She decided we weren't worth her time and turned us down. I went in with a group of friends on a Sunday night and there was not one person in the bar. This blonde lady was trying to be all tough on REAL ID's, I'm 22 and this uneducated woman kept bending my state ID. I said to her multiple times what else she needed and why it looked fake. She had no reason and said we're not accepting. This place will go out of business because they turn away real ID's. The owner needs to hire people and security that actually know what a state ID looks like especially considering mine was an Arizona ID not only that it was gross inside there and not welcoming. Crazy fun dive bar... Darts board was unplugged but there was pool to play and we were there on karaoke night. I will say the girl who runs the karaoke was NOT nice. She had a nasty attitude it seemed for anyone that wasn't a regular or one of her friends. We will be coming back, just not on Wednesday nights. Dive bar + karaoke + cheap drinks = perfection. Looking back, I am stoked my social group had a night here. My first thought was "Mill Ave bar"? Totally not on that spectrum of Mill. It's your classic dimly-lit dive bar with good drink specials and entertainment abound (board games, tv, pool, etc). The bartender and waitresses did a great job keeping everyone's cups/shots full, and the bartender was a great conversation. The karaoke DJ is a character! He looks like a certain X-Men and kept us entertained with the most-interesting music selection in-between performances. If you tip him in bills or alcohol, you have a much better shot at not waiting forever in-between songs. On a typical Saturday night, it could be as long as an hour to wait without tipping him. This is definitely an interesting watering hole, worth the time to throw a few back and people watch. read more

I've drank here about 5x, played games about 6x, and ate here about 4x. First off - I LOVE THE CHEESE CURDS. They are little greasy nuggets of joy. So if you don't like greasy food, these are the last thing you should order. But dang, they are awesome. :) So, I like shuffleboard. Enough that I've played for shirts before (of which I won, by the way). When my opponent lost their shirt, Monkey Pants and any other patrons didn't even seem to mind. After all, they have a shirtless shot 1-2x a night anyways so it isn't completely uncommon to see shirtless people in here. Drinks seem to be reasonable here as well, especially if you order some of their special drinks. Food is pretty decent as well and I'd put it about one step above bar food in some cases. I'm not sure how long they have been doing it... but they had a "power saver" night where they wouldn't use lights, but rather candles for their lighting. As stupid as it sounds, I REALLY loved it. The bartenders also dressed up and it ended up feeling like a speak-easy. Speaking of bartenders, they are pretty dang attentive. I think I've received some of the fastest service here. Overall, I like this place. I wish I lived closer so I could just walk there. I could see this as being my local watering hole. PS - They have a lot of board games too. At first when we got here, it was empty...on a Saturday. Granted we got here at 7...but I still expected a crowd of some sort. Especially since it was just south of Mill Ave, in Tempe. And driving up to the building..it's not much to look at. Just your typical dive bar exterior. I honestly thought it was going to be a waste of time, especially since the karaoke wasn't even more than two people and NO crowd. But I gave it a chance and we (me and my friends, plus boyfriend) and stayed. And boy am I glad we did!!! I've never had so much fun! I have been a backup dancer for a random stranger....three times, did the cupid shuffle with half of the bar!!! Plus I'm still sober! Lol! Food is great. Beer is cold. The only thing that happened tonight, was that I found a bug in my water...thankfully it wasn't bad..just a little garden bug. The server was very sorry and sweet. I went here for open mic comedy night, and the comedians were pretty good for an open mic night. The show was tight, with just ten comedians getting six minutes each. The only thing I ordered to eat was the wings, because that's what people seemed to recommend, and they were very good. I had them hot, but there was an interesting Monkey Pants sauce option that I might try if I go there again. This bar has really great potential, but definitely needs a little help reaching it. Pros- Food is DELICIOUS! My husband and I love to steal away occasionally, just to EAT here. My go-to drink is a bloody Mary which usually comes out pretty tasty. The bartenders are usually pretty nice and accommodating. The facility is usually clean and kept tidy. Well done Monkey Pants! So why 3 stars? Cons- This is a karoke bar. The karaoke jockey's are rude (one jockey actually told my husband to "get the f*ck off the stage while he was singing), and another (a female) had me wait over an HOUR to sing and proceeded to tell me she didn't have my song and pushed me to the back of the line (after I had already tipped her $5). The song options are limited and the wait to sing is always LONG. The same people usually sing multiple songs leading me to believe its all about who you know in this place. If I want to enjoy a good burger and drink with my husband, this is an establishment I will definitely frequent. For Karoke and fun, I'll be heading to FINAL ROUND where the jockey's are friendly and inviting. Did I mention when they didn't have my song they (Travis at final round ) actually found it for me? Went here last night just to be accused of being in a group with underage girls. Be careful who you walk up with because apparently when you walk up at the same time you're all in a "group". Security guard was so rude to us even though my whole group was legal. Didn't even apologize to us for wasting our money to not even get in. I will never be going back. read more

Typical dive bar, cannot speak to the food. There are some bartenders here that pour very generously, and others that are stingy, so it's pretty inconsistent what you get for what you spend night over night. They have karaoke which is cool. A smaller song selection than many places, but everyone here always seems supportive and into the karaoke. read more

If I could leave no stars I would. It was busy. I get that. But I stood next to the bar waiting patiently for the 2 women working behind the bar to clear out every single customer waiting. Once everyone left I waiting about 5 minutes before I approached the blonde working and asked her if it would be better for me to move around to the other side to order. Her response was, "I don't know. Yeah. ". Very rude like with a tone of obvious annoyance that I spoke to her. So, I moved to the other side and stood there for another 5 minutes before the brunette asked how she could help. I gave her my order and she said OK. She finished up doing whatever it was she was doing on the register, which took another 3-5 minutes, then went to start my drink. Nope. She started making another drink for another customer. The blonde then walks over and asks me what I'm having and I tell her that I told the brunette and she was supposed to be working on it but I told her my order. She then got my drink and without looking at me asking me if I was starting a tab or cashing out (once again with that rude annoyed tone). I paid and was just blown away by the crappy customer service I had just experienced. I understand being stressed out, understaffed, and over worked but that is not how you treat customers. I work in customer service and can not for the life of me understand how anyone who works in customer service, that treats people that way, does. I was never rude to be treated that way. I waited patiently. Maybe I didn't smile at them but I was waiting for a long time, and allowed them to catch up, before I even approached the first woman to try to order. If you don't like working with people in a bar setting then go try it in another setting. I would have been given a verbal warning if I treated any customer the way that they treated me. Even in my most difficult situations at work I still keep my composure and have a nice tone. I'm not saying everyone has to be like me but at least smile, apologize for the wait, or communicate that you're busy but will be right with me (acknowledging the customer). After a year of avoiding monthly karaoke night at Monkey Pants, I finally got swept up by an overwhelming FOMO and had to check it out. Thankfully I was with some Monkey Pants veterans who got everything set with the DJ and somehow got me on stage. Seems like there may be some complaints about groups getting out of order to sing, so just make sure to tip the guy well and you should be good to go. I came super hungry and apparently the kitchen was closed at 7pm on a Saturday night because the bar was short staffed, but I was able to hold out after drinking a couple Kilt Lifters. The kitchen finally opened and I got nachos - which weren't that great but I was starving. Seems like most people are a lot happier with the wings! Drinks were pretty cheap, food was alright, free popcorn is a plus and the karaoke is a blast. Definitely worth checking out and I'll be coming back for our next monthly karaoke night! read more

This is a fun bar. It's the coolest bar you'll ever go to in a strip mall center. Looks can be deceiving. Go inside and enjoy this bars fun ambiance. This is a dark, greasy, homely, neighborhood dive bar with semi-decent food. If you visit Monkey Pants with this in mind, you won't be disappointed...much. I was encouraged to go to Monkey Pants to try their burger with peanut butter on it. Yes, peanut butter! I'm an adventurous eater, so sure; I'm game. Well...the burger was dry. I asked for it cooked Medium, but it came out Well (...with every drop of moisture cooked out of it). Also, there was no sauce on the burger of any sort; so just a dry, airy, flavorless bun and a way overcooked burger. Exacerbating the problem was this mouth-drying peanut butter on my burger. I felt like I was in one of those "Got Milk" commercials. Not good. Conceptually, the "burgers across America" idea is sound, but the execution is not. The quality and attention to detail (and taste) is not there. The staff (of one) was friendly, but the service was a bit slow (because there was only one person). Monkey Pants is not a very clean place either. They did have Guinness on tap though, which almost earns them a 3rd star.... Still, I'm not really a fan. I don't intend on returning. read more

The restaurant is a little out of date but surprisingly there was a decent crowd. Little more strict on COVID rules than the average place. It was hard to stand up without the waitstaff running up to tell you to put a mask on. It was pretty busy and the service was slow but the atmosphere and karaoke was fun. Monkey Pants has become one of my go to spots in Tempe! They seem to have something going on every night. I was first introduced to trivia night on Thursday and had a blast. My friends and I soon became fans of their karaoke nights as well. Food and drinks are great. Service can be a bit slow, but it is to be expected in a dive bar. With that said, all of the staff is incredibly nice and friendly. There always seems to be some type of drink special happening as well. Loved this place the first time i came. The second time however was awful. The bartenders were absolutely terrible to me. Extremely rude to me every single time i went to order.
