I finally made it and my only regret is that I let it take a few years. Parking entrance is on Western, just south of the burger place. Not a ton of parking though if you come when it's already busy. Dog friendly too. Arrived just before 4PM on a Thursday and there was already a line waiting for them to open. I would say around 5PM is when it became a standing room area as all the tables were taken. That was probably the only downside: a small seating area. Over the course of five hours, I tried about 7 beers and not one let me down. A couple were great, but the rest were all excellent. In fact, I would say one TIPA was probably the best IPA I have ever had. Most beers are 12oz as a full pour ($7-8) and 6oz as half ($4-5). The only bummer was that they weren't offering splashes so I could try one beer before buying it in cans. I would easily make the 30 mile drive again to come back but when their Anaheim location opens, I will be so very happy. read more

Definitely my favorite brewery in LA. I realize that's a bold statement just given the sheer number of breweries around LA, but this place stands above in terms of beer quality. The ambiance and location definitely come up short compared to some of the other LA brew spots, but the beer stands alone. It's a Belgian-style brewery although over the years they've expanded their beers to include some really good ipas and stouts. Their flagship beer is definitely called "the feminist" which is a hibiscus-based Belgian tripel, and is absolutely worth a pour. It is a high-alcohol beer (8.5 or 9% I believe) though, so if heartier beers aren't your thing then this might not be a good choice for you. They definitely have some lighter selections as well, but their specialty is in true craft brews, and they do it wonderfully. They have rotating food trucks that come through for food, and they're all pretty good. This is a great place to come after work or for a chill night. It can be difficult to find a place to sit though, as the space itself is not very big. They've expanded into the parking lot, which has helped, but I'm not sure it's kept up with the increasing popularity of this place. Worth the wait in line and wait to find a place to sit though, for sure. read more

Have came here once pre covid and once at the end of the 2021 summer and we like it here. Chill spot to get a nice cold beer. They usually have a food truck but when we got there this time they sadly sold out and left for the day which was a bummer. But we stayed and tried a few of their beers and left with a four pack to take home. They expanded their outdoor seating area and it's a nice area to sit in. If you're in Torrance, this should definitely be a stop on your brewery tour. The staff is super friendly and will allow you to sample all kinds of beer. They also were happy to answer questions about the brewery like how the name is an homage to the monks that organically brewed beer. It's a super hip little spot that makes you completely comfortable with a little day drinking lol. It's cool that you're allowed inside the brewery, able to see the brew masters at work, and that they have free pretzels next to their water station. They also have their own parking lot which is super convenient. This is pretty random, but I also like that their bathroom is decorated with the old labels of their past beers. Like I said before, definitely give these guys a try when on your multi-brewery tour of Torrance and maybe I'll see you there. read more

Been wanting to check out this place for quite sometime. Ending up trying the Foggy Window, was really refreshing with the perfect amount of hoppiness. This place has some of the best and unique hazy IPAs out there. Overall place has a really cool vibe, is close and very walkable to a couple of other nearby breweries. As a fan of beer and of hazy IPAs, I considered this my pilgrimage to Mecca. It lived up and even exceeded expectations. Monkish Brewing is a small Torrance brewery that has gained a reputation as making the very best beers of a currently popular style called hazy IPA, or sometimes NE (New England) IPA. I've heard stories of their releases attracting lines of people. I also simultaneously resolved not to bother with that just yet because I don't live in town (or in state), instead opting simply to stop by the taproom to try some beers on a weeknight. The parking lot is actually accessible from Western Ave, not Del Amo Blvd as you might suspect from a map. Coming from the 405, you'll want to take the first right turn down an alley after you pass the parking lot of the restaurant at the corner. The brewery will probably not be hard to find at that point because so many cars will be parked nearby. Their menu had 9 beers during my visit, tax included in the price. They have some Belgian style brews too, but the real reason for coming is any of the IPAs. Pours are limited to 4 oz ($4 for any of the ones which I selected) or whatever the full pour size is (8-12 oz for my choices, $7+), and they only do growler fills for specific beers. They'll let each person buy only one full pour or two tasters (one per hand, I observed) at a time, but you can come back when you're done for more. I could go into some detail about how some beers had different aromas (a bit of "dank" character in Broadcasting Live). I could say how some were slightly more creamy (especially Beats Is Infinite). I probably couldn't tell you the individual fruit breakdowns of the flavors of each beer, save that they're all complex and delicious, and hardly if at all bitter. However, the takeaway is that two of them (Broadcasting Live and Water Balloon Fight Club) were better than every other hazy IPA which I've tried, and the other two (including Galactic Rhyme Federation Championship) weren't far behind. The hazy hype is real. I do wish that I'd been able to pick up some beers to go, but only one of the hazy IPAs was available in a growler, and the bottles were for in-house consumption and were very expensive beers of various sour styles. That said, only diehard craft beer fans who are also locals will probably have any luck obtaining the more sought-after beers without resorting to beer trading, a world which I've yet to explore. I'll be back to Monkish for sure when I'm visiting SoCal. As far as I'm concerned, everybody else within a state or two is still trying to play catch-up. If and when everybody gets sick of this trend, maybe they'll drop in stature. But for now, Monkish is currently at the zenith of hazy IPAs. read more

I went here for my first time on my most recent trip to CA. I'm a huge fan of hazy IPAS, so I was super excited to come here and try the beers straight from the brewery. I had only had their beer in cans from a place near me in Seattle and really liked them. When I came here, I was able to try several different beers. I tried 2 hazy IPAs and one sour beer from them. All of the beers were very good and something I would drink again. I also like how Monkish is dog-friendly and brought my dog along too. I enjoyed the atmosphere of Monkish too. Since it was a sunny day, the patio was open with brick oven pizza available the day I was there. Also, they played reggae music and had several tables to sit at inside and free pretzels. Can releases are sporadic and announced just before they are released so best to be on their instagram or Facebook for notifications. Get your beer in the front room when you enter and walk in to another room where the beer is made. Tables and seating is limited, but there is also plenty of standing room. T-shirts, growlers, glassware available to purchase. Friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. They have rules and they enforce them. If you come to a can release you cannot leave the line, if you do leave the line you go to the back of the line when you return, even if the rest of your party is holding your spot. Incredible beer in a surprisingly nice space. My brother-in-law has been going here religiously, apparently this is the Mecca for IPAs. On this particular occasion, they were releasing a few anniversary stouts, so we sampled those. Given the rest of the area is pretty industrial, I was pleasantly surprised at the nice outdoor seating area they managed to carve out. Plenty of sunlight to enjoy a beautiful November day in SoCal. Dogs are allowed, we brought ours and he made a few friends while we drank. The staff was polite and despite the fact that we arrived well after they opened, the lines moved quickly and we found seats within 10 minutes. The beers were lovely, even though both IPAs and stouts are relatively low on my list. If there's any downside, it's the prices. My BIL sprang for a $55 bottle of stout. IPA is the most popular craft beer style in the country for some time now. So when Monkish opened up their brewery/ tap room; in order to make themselves stand out, they swore not to make IPAs and focus instead on Belgian styles. Their Belgian ales were well received, but not making any real money. And the brewery has to survive. So Monkish started making juicy, hazy, approachable IPAs, which now all belong to the NE IPA category. And guess what? They made them so well that the demand (and lines) for their can releases became notorious, not just in California, but country wide. Being a home-brewer and craft enthusiast for many years, I've heard lore of Monkish. The only way to get their releases here in NorCal is to attend a special event where there might be a keg available, or trade for the cans. Since I am not a proponent of trades (we have enough good breweries in our area to support, not to talk about shipping hassle), I've never had an opportunity to sample their hazy IPAs. So on recent beer trip down to LA, a buddy and myself made Monkish one of our Sunday destinations. Tucked in the side alley, I can see why a lot of folks would have gripe with the parking and directions. GPS does not show the right location and the physical address is useless as there are no signs coming from the main street. It's almost as Monkish doesn't really want the strangers to know where they are. Surprisingly, we had no issues finding parking right in the front. Despite being busy inside, I imagine this was one of their slow days. There was a bit of a line at the bar to order but it moved quickly. They had 4 hazys and another 6 sour/Belgian/other beers on draft. It's only 1 full pour or 2 tasters per person but we still tried most of the sours and hazys. After all, this is what Monkish is known for. Expectations being high, I have to confess that beer was good, but far from the best ever. It's either that others have stepped up their game (everyone makes hazy IPA nowadays), or I am just tired of NEIPA style because all the beers tasted almost the same. Monkish is a small operation and they don't serve any food but there was a food truck on site. The appearance is pretty plain and there is nothing memorable about the decor. The place is cozy, but not extremely comfortable. There is always a crowd and even if you score a spot to place your glass on, there will be vultures eyeing your table, patiently waiting for you to leave. Being from out of area, I don't see a reason to come back here because I don't think the beer is any better than our local options, which I can pick up in store easily. But Monkish was one of the first to cash in the haze craze and I give them the props for that. If I lived closer I can see myself coming back but with so many new and good beer in LA, I don't think I'll be visiting Monkish in the near future. read more

Small brewery, they have a small ordering tap room. Seating is in the brewery area. Limited space to sit/stand. Burger Shop stand is right outside the brewery for food. Prices for their drafts are $6-8 for full pours. Full pours are a bit small for the price. Tasters are $3-4. Same, pricing is a bit high for a typical taster. They are known for their hazy's so I had to try them all. Domino and Rap had the best flavor. The others were a bit flat and flavorless to me. I was so excited to try the beer but was disappointed that they were hit or miss. read more

"Beer. Hope. Love" -- a surprisingly corny motto for a brewery that was out to CRUSH the year 2017 with the number of IPA can releases they inflicted upon the beer community. Believe it or not, for the longest time Monkish was intensely against the production of hoppy beers. In fact, I enjoyed them way back when for their famed Belgian-styled brews. Although raisiny, they were sweet and syrupy -- perfect for someone just starting to drink beers! Then, they came to MT's Festival of Funk with their sours and WOW! You knew they were only winding up for something big in the form of their hazy IPA's. The brewery itself is small and situated in a sea of warehouses. Tap menu still consists of their forgotten Belgians, but expect a lot of IPA's and sours. Make sure to bring a growler if you know they are willing to perform fills for their IPA's. It makes the perfect party-pleaser because just about everything they brew is a treat. I don't bother to know their can release schedule because it's just impossible for me to partake (with a job and all). But know when they happen because unless you actually want some cans, it's a sh*t show that should be avoided if you're not prepared. Like no joke. I've seen too many pictures and too many people on beer forums ranting and raving. Be smart and TRADE. Or, avoid that mayhem and enjoy their IPA's on tap. Stress-free! But definitely not during can release hours. They are known for their IPA's, but definitely do not pass them up on their sours. Bottle releases online happen occasionally and they sell out in seconds! For the more simple sours, you may even find them in the tap room for sale. Not the wildest brews, but still solid and easy to get. Monkish knows what they're doing and whether or not you'll take the effort to acquire their cans, you're guaranteed to have something good. read more

We came on a Saturday afternoon during a brewery hop through the Torrance area. Monkish was so busy when we got there! We got the Feminist Hibiscus (sour) and a dark malty beer with caramel notes (forgot the name). Both were pretty good! The free pretzels were a nice touch. Ahh, Monkish. A place many would call IPA Mecca on the west coast, and appropriately so. As a longtime patron dating back to their first year in 2012, they've changed a ton, but it's still one of my favorite breweries in America. I typically come here every week to pickup cans and try what's new on tap. We even took our baby here at one week old. They're super child friendly and pet friendly and have a great outdoor area. Gone are the days of being confined to the tiny, stuffy tasting room. Parking can be a bit tight on can release days, but it has been a few months since I have had to park outside of the lot. The beer tenders are always patient and are great resources in helping you find what you may like. The line can get long, though they always manage to get through it quick without you feeling like you're being rushed. This place is easily one of the best breweries in the South Bay area. Monkish specializes in juicy, hazy IPA beers. They are absolutely masterful when it comes to blending hops including Galaxy, Amarillo, and Citra hops. They have a huge menu with various beers to see your tastes. If you're a little lost, I recommend that you ask Jairo for a recommendation--he is always on point. Can releases can get a little crazy. And the tasting room can get a little small and cozy during peak hours on the weekends. However, the beer here is always worth the wait and the drive. Recently went with a group of close friends and were shocked at the lack of costumer service, shabbiness of the place and bad behavior of servers. Two servers, Jose and Joe (at least this the name they told us) were particularly rude. Whatever the reason was, they should have been polite and treated us, well at least, like humans! They completely spoiled our evening. I usually don't write reviews, but this time I am compelled to put one out as you don't want to run into these nasty guys. One of my favorite breweries in LA. They've become extremely popular since they began making exceptional IPAs. The can releases draw huge crowds - they usually announce can releases via social media in the early afternoon and they typically sell out in a few hours. I'm a big fan of their Belgian-style beers. The saisons and farmhouse ales are great. There's usually a very good big dark strong ale released during the holidays that's good for aging a few years. The tap room is small. The least busy time to visit is during the early afternoon unless there's a can release or you get stuck behind a van full of people on a brewery tour (Smog City and The Dudes is within a few blocks, and there are over a dozen breweries nearby in Torrance, Gardena and Carson). There's one TV usually tuned to sports, and there's often a good food truck parked next to the tap room. It may be tempting to reminisce about the early days when it was far easier to get a beer and find some space in the tap room. But the reason why they're so popular is because they make such great beer. So raise a glass to Henry, Adriana and the rest of the Monkish crew for making and serving some of LA's best beer! read more

Great brewery for Hazy IPAs and occasional stouts, but there is always some fresh or fruity Belgian ales on tap. This brewery is big on Hazy IPA can releases weekly, just follow their Instagram account for more info. Henry, the head brewer and owner, rarely makes or release BA Stouts, but his stouts are very renowned in the local beer community to be incredible. Be aware of parking as an issue if you are visiting. Parking is very limited and you can be cited or towed if you park in the neighboring parking lots. Most people park on the nearby street. The staff is great. Very friendly and welcoming. Landmark brewery for the LA area if you are visiting. read more
