got bell and evans chicken here twice in the last two weeks and both times, the chicken was not good. It smelt when I took it out of the wrapping. It is bizarre to me that the butcher could pack the chicken from the store front and I get home and open it and smell that it is bad but he doesn't and proceeds to charge me $22 for a chicken breast. Stopped in on my bike on the way home to try their Burger. Picked the BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger. When they ask you how you want it prepared you know you're in for a treat. Pat LaFrieda meats never disappoints, and neither does Pat's Market. With Peter Lugers bacon and a BBQ that's reminiscent of Luger's steak sauce, this is one of the best burgers I've had in years, with or without a cloth napkin. This is the first time I've really been disappointed with Pat's Market. The price and the food were the worst I have ever had. My husband and I always stop by for dinner on our way home from my daughters house, we live in Bergen County. The purchase was braciole ( 2 pieces) very, very thick and dry and it was cooked in my homemade tomato sauce and regular mashed potatoes which were also very dry almost like they were not made with any milk or butter, tasteless. I always give second chances so they will get another one but this meal really makes me think about my choices for next time. read more

I recently stopped at Pat's Market to pick up a good steak for a birthday dinner. The employees were knowledgeable and very helpful. I decided on a prime tomahawk steak and the twice baked potatoes. This was definitely the best quality steak I've purchased and cooked myself. It literally melted in my mouth. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying different cuts of meat! read more

While the prices are definitely a little more than your average deli, the quality at pat's is always fresh. I'm a fan of their Tuna subs and the chocolate lava cookies pastries. They also have some really great coffee if you are looking for something light. read more

Steaks are absolutely delicious and the best in the area. Tough to find a real butcher shop nowadays however this one is great. My only issue was prices are very high. Ordered two New York strip steaks and it came to $63. I'd definitely come back despite high prices. read more

It's actually not in my neighborhood but I'll make the trip to see Steve and his crew to pick up my steaks, chicken, and cold cuts any time. Always friendly service and I especially love the recipe ideas and tips on how to cook/grill something when I ask. They've recently added curbside pickup, which is what I did on my last trip out. I enjoy grocery shopping so this was a new experience for me to have someone else pick out my groceries but I knew I could trust them and of course, everything was perfect. What a relief it was to pick up eggs, bread, fresh vegetables, tomato sauce, and pasta along with my steaks and chicken all in one place. i just picked up my 6 pound boned leg of lamb for easter and was charged $120 for this meat!!!! my math says that is $20 per pound. this is flat out robbery. it is our annual tradition to eat lamb and in my entire life i have never paid a price like this. shame on this butcher shop. i am convinced this is a perfect example of price gouging when people are desperate to try to save a holiday in this horrible time of social distancing. they will never see me again!!! read more

I went here prepared to pay more for a real butcher and higher quality meat than I can get at the grocery store. The prices were about what I was expecting, but there was not much variety, and what they did have was not local, organic, grass-fed, highly marbled or any other thing that might make me seek it out and/or pay more, except for perhaps 1 or 2 dry-aged steak options. I bought 2 steaks, either sirloin or NY strip, and did not find them any tastier or more tender than what I can buy at ACME, and they weren't grass-fed, organic, or any similar higher quality. So, why make a special trip here, and pay more? Too bad, as I used to frequent Paisano's butcher in Brooklyn regularly when I lived there, and I value and miss having a small, local-business source for higher-quality meats. I would love to have a real butcher like Pat's with non-industrial meats and higher-quality options, so I hope they will reqd this review and also solicit other customer feedback for improvement. read more

Joe (who was a great butcher) has sold to new owners and it is under very good hands. It is a great go-to in the area . Burgers are hand made to order and the beef (steaks) is of the highest quality. The Chicken is Bell and Evans and also cut to order. Reasonably priced cold cuts (Boars Head) round out the field.I would give Pat's 5 stars without any hesitation. This is my family's go-to butcher. Joe, the owner, and his team are very courteous and more than willing to make suggestions. My family has always been extremely satisfied with the food here Not only do they have great-quality meat, but also they make great sandwiches. Try the Italian on a roll. In the summer, I always try to stop here before going to the beach. A sandwich from Pat's is the perfect lunch. Don't even need to leave my beach towel. It's worth noting that Pat's side dishes are great as well. Every so often, I get their loaded potatoes. Those things are dangerous! read more

Hoping everyone is safe and not going too crazy during this trying time. Just happened to see a review regarding the price of lamb from Christine C. and wanted to address it in a different way. The reality is the price of lamb is a wee bit different that the price of chicken or an egg and that price is dictated by the distributor who buys it from the producer and then sells it to the retailer. So, once you add up all the layers, packaging, wages, shipping you end up with a cost. Quality american lamb is expensive and the profit margin is very small by the time the retailer cuts it, puts it into the case and pays their employees. Complaining about the cost of 'lamb" when people can't afford a gallon of milk right now is pretty pathetic. Question is, why did you buy it in the first place....try some chicken next time. Also, when you send a ridiculously irrelevant review about how much you are suffering with your lamb purchase remember the people that brought that to your table making minimum wage....the ones eating chicken and eggs. read more

I went to pick up some lunch at Pat's since they just officially reopened following a renovation. They were offering free samples outside (as a promotion for the reopening), and I guess they assumed I was only there for the free samples because the employees were extremely rude and would not even acknowledge me while asking questions. I've actually been here quite a few times before and never had a problem, but the second the employee assumed I was only there for free samples she treated me like I was worthless - and I didn't even get the chance to order my food. The owners and employees are very full of themselves and could care less about their customers. They lost a long time customer today. read more

We used Pat's to cater our 50 person corporate event. The entire staff was completely blown away by the experience. The gentlemen that helped us put our order together was extremely helpful and guided us so that we ordered the perfect amount. The delivery team took pride in an excellent presentation and the food was AMAZING! We plan on using Pat's to cater every event. BTW - The store's new look is beautiful! Really disappointed! The Butchers Block was offering a great package for selection of meats. We decided to go local, what a mistake. Not only was the package not truly comparable to The Butchers Block but the chicken cutlets that were part of the package we purchased on Friday 3/27 were rancid on 3/3O. This market prepares the best sub sandwich in Monmouth county and is second to White House subs in Atlantic City in the state. What differentiates both of them from everyone else is the breads they use. Most other restaurants use a bread maybe a step higher than Wonder bread. Their bread is what you would get in a fine bakery. Crusty on outside and soft and chewy inside. The portion of meat on sandwich is plentiful, flavorful and satisfying. Definitely worth the stop. Just like a meat market you would find in France. Great stuff. read more

I lived in this area for 32 years and we recently relocated to HHI in South Carolina. We still come back to NJ because of family ties. Pat's Meat Market is still the best Butcher shop that I have ever experienced. I can't find a better butcher where we are now. Steve and his crew have done and excellent job in keeping up to Joe's standards. I have not had a bad meat selection from Pat's Market in 32 years. I've always loved this place and had been coming here since 2006 when I was at Brookdale. It was always great and was good as recently as last fall however today when I went that was not the case. I walked in and noticed the meat cases werent as full and the prepared food section was significantly depleted also. I ordered lemon basil chicken to go as it looked good but then couldnt help but notice how slow the counter guy got it into a container, into the microwave, into a bag and into my hands. It was like 10 minutes not even kidding. Whatever I can deal with that but when I got home I was flabbergasted. Im not sure who prepared this batch of "lemon basil" chicken but there was no basil taste and no lemon taste. It was some kind of vinegar based sauce which had been emulsified with corn starch to make it look inviting. It was bad. Very bad. I'm a chef so I know what I'm speaking about here. Not sure whats going on at Pat's but it better change. I'll be back next week with an update as to whether or not theyve corrected this. read more
