This was an older experience and it's possible that the person responsible is no longer there, but I went here to get an oil change and left 4 hours later because the first person to change my oil instead drained my transmission fluid (or so I was told) and then topped off the still full oil tank. Thankfully I waited a few minutes with the car on before leaving. They tried to figure out the problem, but couldnt for a bit. That was understandable, but then they changed the oil again and a part of the filter fell into the tank, making my car read no oil pressure at all this time, which took another couple of hours for them to figure out. They also ran the engine while it read no oil pressure, which I didn't realize at first but did later. Finally, they figured out everything that had happened from the transmission fluid to the broken filter, but it took 4 hours and a whole lot of anxiety on my part thinking I wouldn't be able to get back home and that my car might be ruined. All for a damn oil change I could have done myself if I wasn't at college without any of the tools I'd need. After all of that, they still charged me for the oil change and filter. While I do somewhat understand that they lost money on the service since they changed the oil three times, changed the transmission fluid, and changed the filter twice, they could have destroyed my entire engine there times over and I was there for hours and hours. My car hasnt run the same since and I truly think its because of them. Again, it's possible the person responsible for the issues is no longer there, but definitely be careful if you go here and watch what they're doing through the windows to make sure they're not somehow mistaking the transmission for the oil tank or something. If you're looking for an alternative, I've heard good things about the valvoline down the street. read more

I had an emergency, an unusual kind of damage due to a faulty part, that made my car a risk to drive. I also needed to have the problem fixed asap (within a day) for a necessary trip out of town. John and Monro came through: they did all they could to solve the problem in time. They were also happy to shuttle me home (and back to the shop the next day). The kids and I were on the way to the mall to do some Christmas shopping (12-18) when our tire pressure light came on. We stopped at e nearest Monro and met the nicest employee. He aired up my tire for free and offered to check the rest. I had already spent money trying to air it up at the gas station. He didn't try to sell me all new tires or try to talk me into spending a million dollars. He was just a really friendly nice guy. He is an asset to your company. Great price for an oil change! They were nice and convenient to the hotel I was staying in. I got the $21.99 oil change, tire rotation, tire pressure & brake check. Easy & fast service. After everything they told me what the car was due for (brake service & transmission flush). What I really appreciated is that they didn't try to sell me on it and they were even nice enough to recommend against the transmission flush if the car had never had one before because it might actually mess up the transmission. The minus 2 stars is because I told them my check engine light was on during my 4 hour drive into Geneva from NYC. I was borrowing the car from my brother and it was blowing lots of smoke from the exhaust for a while. They said they would check it out. But when I picked up the car, all they said was the light wasn't on when they put the car on the lift. They said it could have just been the gas cap not being screwed on tightly enough and not to worry about it as long as it wasn't on. Needless to say, 20-30 minutes into my drive back to NYC, the light came on again and stayed on the whole time. Being that I was a girl, driving 4-5 hours by myself through the middle of nowhere, I would have appreciated them checking a little more thoroughly. I would have been really upset, but honestly, I don't know how much they could have analyzed if the light was off. Guess I need to become my own mechanic. read more

I took my car into Monro for its annual inspection. I had never had my car inspected at Monro prior to this time. Upon completion of the inspection, I was told that it could not pass inspection due to 1) need for new front brake pads and rear pads and rotors; 2) dry rotted control arm bushings; and 3) failure of the battery test. In order to pass inspection, I needed to fix all of these items. The estimated cost to repair these items exceeded $1,000. In the meantime, they scrapped off my prior inspection sticker. I knew the front brake pads had already been replaced in the past year. Bottomline: I didn't trust Monro's findings so I told them that I was going to hold off on the work. I then scheduled an appointment with a reputable auto repair shop to get a second opinion. I provided them with Monro's "courtesy inspection" that included all the alleged necessary repairs. After inspecting my vehicle, the shop informed me that none of those repairs were necessary and my car should have passed inspection. They only item the shop agreed with was the low battery, which they replaced but apparently doesn't affect whether the inspection passes or not. By getting the second opinion, I saved myself close to $1,000 in what would have been unnecessary repairs. As a result, I will never return to Monro and caution anyone going there to get a second opinion if an inspection is contingent upon so-called necessary repairs. In my case, these were fictitious. While traveling through Geneva on my way to the Finger Lakes, my exhaust pipe detached. I needed help ASAP. My car sounded like a muscle car from the seventies without a muffler. I called Monro and Shane got me in right away. My car was fixed and I was back on the road in under half an hour. I am so thankful...Quick courteous service and unmatched professionalism.
