I've been looking for a vehicle, have an excellent credit score, preapproval through Cap1 for up to…read more37,000, preapproval through other banks DTI that is manageable, and a steady 26 year career making good money. I applied for preapproval through Toyota Financial through Luv. What happened? Nothing. No call, no sale. We have purchased 2 new and 1 used vehicle when Superior Toyota was open in Erie just to avoid this dealership. It seems nothing has changed over 15 years. BTW, don't buy at Toyota of Erie either. Since its change from Superior Toyota which was owned by Dave Hallman, it has become a shyster dealership. You'll need to go north or further south. At this point I would rather just buy a vehicle from Enterprise car sales or cargurus and take my chances with a local mechanic.

About 2 weeks ago we were used car shopping because my husband's 10 year old car was facing…read moreexpensive repairs. LUV had a 2010 Lexus GS 350 AWF with nearly 160K on it but it had a clean carfax and seemed to have been leased and then purchased by the lessee. Drove pretty well. The salesman though wasn't helpful. He told me he makes friends of his clients. 34 years in car sales. I hadn't asked but know all about his recent move, his two sons, their health and careers, problems with his landlord--uh, I (respectfully) do not need new friends who are used car salesmen, but his wife & sons seemed nice in the pictures he showed us. Trying to guilt us maybe into buying the car? Because he's our new best friend? Old school. Nice try. He actually told me he was SURE I wanted to buy the car, but was trying to find reasons not to. Uh huh. That makes sense? Even asked me why I must think he wasn't doing his best. Said he couldn't sell the car at a loss. He'd prefer a sale over no sale. Had no way to go lower. Blah blah. The usual BS. And here are the reasons I did NOT want to buy this car: 1. I took it to be looked at by two other places. One guy laughed and said based on the seats alone I should run. Fast. And far. And that he wouldn't sell it for more than $5000. LUV was asking $10,300. 2. A few days later we went back thinking maybe we'd buy the car if they'd come down on price or, preferably fix the seats. Sales guy asked me what would seal the deal. I said fix the seats. Later he called to say they'd gotten quotes of $1200. For just the two front seats. The other outside evaluator said he thought it'd be $1000-who knows if they even got a $1200 quote. After all if you've REALLY had 35 years in the car business wouldn't you know this at least in rough terms? Instead they ACTED like they were trying to fix the seats but obviously weren't interested. Maybe they thought I was an easy mark. Uh, not so much. You can't stop Yelp guys. Remember that when you talk down to potential customers. 3. Now 2 weeks later the price is $9,850. Car is still in their inventory. Good luck selling that thing to somebody else who "REALLY wants to buy it but is trying to find reasons not to." (That's insulting actually!) Oh yeah and I guess they're selling it planning now to lose money, because he was insistent that he couldn't drop the price just a few weeks ago. 4. And of course they assured me they were barely making any money on it, margin is so tight, the internet changed everything, we have the lowest prices within 100 miles, blah blah blah. But suddenly now it's nearly $500 cheaper? A five percent price reduction? The SECOND price reduction? One a week apparently. But gosh, they were barely making a profit at the higher price. Do I really seem that dumb?! That's why we walked away. (Car also wouldn't start when we returned so we figured that's a sign & not a good one.) 5. And their service department?! Every time I've taken my Toyota in for 4 years or so (bought elsewhere) they try to up-sell me. Yes I know that's the game. I've even jokingly asked them to once just ONCE say "yup you came in for an oil change--that's all you need!" We will never go back. Never. To either sales or service. I try to support local businesses but should my car need dealer service--which it probably doesn't--I'll take it to Erie or Buffalo. A good, honest mechanic is what it needs. They can all check the recall database and order parts, right. You've been warned!
