I made an appointment online for a NY state inspection at 6pm this evening. (A Tuesday evening). Online and even on the front door the hours state that they are open till 7pm. There was absolutely no one there and everything was closed up when I arrived. All of the bays were closed. On the door it even says that walk-ins are welcome. I stayed until about 6:15pm and as I was about to leave a random worker drove up from nowhere and said that they are open but he was the only one working and "had to leave". When I mentioned I had an appointment at 6pm for a state inspection he said that there is no one there that does NY state inspections Monday through Friday and that we would have to come back on Sunday. Why did the website allow me to make an appointment that this location was never able to keep in the first place? I tried to call customer service before taking my experience to social media, but when I called, I had reached them "outside of normal business hours". I felt that the whole experience was very unorganized and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend. Update: just tried to call the customer service number that the reply to this review suggested. I called during business hours. The hold program said I was number one in the queue. Then I got sent to voicemail. I called back. A person answered! Then I explained that I was calling regarding a response to a review I'd posted. She told me to hold and transferred me to a voicemail. I left a message. I have used Monro Auto on Dolson Avenue in Middletown for the past 3 Years. I had a very Bad experience at Mavis on Route 300 Union Ave in Newburgh that I needed to find a place to go immediately and I found it with Monro Auto. First the man working the front desk, his name being Chris, is really a no non sense type of personality that tells you like it is, no sugarcoating, but also very honest and would recommend if something honestly wasn't needed or if it needed to be taken care of immediately. He's a guy you could trust. Then there was Rob, I believe he was the Head Mechanic. Extremely knowledgeable when it comes to cars. Great Personality a guy you can just get along with. I have gone to Monro with so many different issues with my 2 Cars and every single time, he was able to get it fixed and never once did I have to go back to have it re-looked at, never one time!! Excellent & Honest Mechanic!! You won't find a better one!! There was one occasion in which they knew I had dealt with 1 issue after another with a car I had recently bought, spending about $3K getting it fixed up. They had known how much I had invested and I suddenly ran into another issue, a blown headlight. So, Chris said if I ran over to Auto Zone and grabbed the bulb they were out of, they would just put it in. But it wasn't the bulb. They said it must be the wiring. So, Chris wrote down what I need to ask for and again I ran down across the street to Auto Zone and grabbed it and brought it back. After 30 minutes Rob says, bad news, it's Not the bulb or the wiring, that I need to order an entire Headlight Assembly Kit with Bulb, but they tell me if I order it online, I could have it shipped right to them which is not a normal thing. It arrived and that day Rob put it in. When I came back to pick it up, Chris surprised me by saying no charge! After spending around $3K in the past few months this was a welcomed surprise. Both Chris & Rob are Excellent!! Now, the bad part. Chris found a better job for himself closer to where he lives. I wish him the best! Rob, out of the blue, has stopped working there. Omg!! I couldn't believe that they let go of the Best Mechanic!! It Sucks to be honest with you. If I ever find out where he is now working, that's where I'll be taking my car auto needs, no doubt about it. With that said, Dave that has been running the front desk after Chris left is also a Great Guy!! If you are still reading this review, I would definitely still take my car there and trust whatever Dave tells you, an honest guy! The guys in the shop working I don't know as much about them, but so far they have done a great job as well even though I haven't needed much done recently as thanks to Rob my Mazda with 250,000 miles on it is running beautiful! The only bad thing, when they put my headlights in for Free, they didn't make any reference to it. So, my Headlight Ticket in Catskill, NY is hard to show it was fixed since both Chris & Rob are no longer there. Hoping Catskill Courts are just as nice and reasonable dealing with me having nothing showing it was fixed on time. Ugh! Also, One time Dave recommended I go across the street to Good Year because Monro doesn't deal with Studded Tires that I wanted to put on my Camaro. Omg!! Never ever go across the street to Good Year!! The guy at the front desk was arguing with a mechanic in which he had cut his hours. I thought these 2 guys over at Good Year were gonna go at it while I only had 1 tire put on. I don't need any stress in my life or any drama. So, No to Good Year and 100% Yes to Monro. Any Ladies reading this, I know as little about engines as many of you do, but you can tell that Dave is an honest guy and like Chris, he won't sugarcoat but he won't try to sell you a fix that isn't needed. Went here for an oil change, at first the guy at front desk was a little stand offish and was wandering how I even got an appointment when they were fully booked and then he was like let him see what he can do and he made it happen and within a reasonable timeframe, so he made up for the first interaction that we had when I arrived and redeemed himself , but I get it , it can get overwhelming and crazy in the customer service industry, also the price was on point of what you'll spend at most places, so overall it was a smooth experience and will most likely go back. read more

After the nonsense I went through at the Chester location I thought I would try the Middletown branch ( the hours are great, and open on sundays) . I made the appointment online and selected the tires, I then called to confirm they had the tires in stock. So Sunday I arrived for my appointment and asked to confirm the price and tires , I was then told " someone sold your tires". Same terrible service, different location, the chester location had my truck for four days and didn't order the tires, the Middletown location said they had the tires yet they didn't . A complete waste of time dealing with this company, run by knuckleheads who are just collecting a paycheck. read more

We called at 4Pm after another station held our car for the whole day on a Saturday during the summer. Brian was wonderful. Living 40 minutes from the shop and needing to first get the car from the other shop, Brian said he would gladly wait for us to fix the broken muffler strap for my husband, who needed the car emergently repaired so he could commute back to the city on Monday Morning. My husband was very impressed with their professionalism. They did not try to sell us up to a new muffler or any additions to boost the price. (also a miracle) He was light hearted, funny, professional and was able to assure me he had the parts in stock prior to getting there....No hostage taking! I plan to bring my Lexus in next week to adjust or examine my brakes. BTW- total cost for repair to strapping with labor $61.00....Not bad at all! read more

Even tho the oil/filter svc is priced right, The NYS inspection ended up with 3 bad 50 cent bulbs, that we were charged $15 dollars each for. Talk about ripping us a new A Hole ! Next visit was for oil/filter and free tire rotation. Was informed f brakes and rotors were bad. Declined the repair. Also noted was a "brake flush". NEVER EVER heard of that and is nowhere mentioned in the owners manual maintenance schedule. Also listed was "hardware" WTF is that bullshit. I did the brakes on the car for a total of 84 Bucks in parts and 16 minutes labor for both f wheels. The brakes were 1/3 worn.. and in no way way warranted replacement. That's what women can expect to get bamboozled by a mechanic. A DEPEW needs to go back to Tech School or learn to better manipulate the customer to believe they are in danger to sell something they do not need for a $600 dollar profit. I was a first time customer on 9/1. I went there for my NYS inspection. I chose Monro because my sister and her girlfriend also use this shop and have always found the service to be friendly and fairly priced. Unfortunately, I did not receive such service. I figured the man who checked me in for my inspection was just upset that they were so busy on a Sunday, (his actual words were, "*sigh* you'd never know it was a sunday, we'll never get out of here today)". I brushed that off and still made an appt for a 9 am oil change for the very next day. I specifically told the same man that I needed an oil change for my 2011 Hybrid and asked how much it would be. He quoted $21. I then informed him that WalMart charged me $50 for the oil change last time because its synthetic OW20 type of oil my car needs. He still said, we have that oil it's not a big deal and yes its $21. I left feeling MUCH better than I had the whole time I was there thinking I was getting such a steal! Yesterday, I showed up early for my appt hoping they would take me sooner (which they did) and I re-asked the mechanic who checked me in, how much it would be ($21 had sounded too good to be true)..he told me it would be $55. I said Ok, that's fine since I was already there. I informed him that I had a full quart of my type of oil in my trunk that they should use as well. He said "no, you keep that, we have that oil here"...I just said Ok but didn't understand why he wouldn't use it. In 30 mins he had returned my keys to me and told me to have a nice day. Then the guy up front (who came in after I was there a bit) rings me up and says it will be $75.38!! I was in disbelief I asked why and was given some BS story about how my car uses 5 quarts so its 69.99 vs if it used 4 quarts it would've been $59.99 (also still more than the mechanic quoted me). AND I was basically paying for the quart that I ASKED him to use from my car!! This was a complete rip off and I will not return. In fact, my sister and her girlfriend and anyone else we know will also not return to that establishment. I feel that if would've went there with my husband, perhaps they would've not gouged me for that ridiculous amount of money. went in for a cheap oil change. place can't make a profit doing this type oil change. They said my lug nuts holding the wheels on are no good and need to be replaced. I declined and after the oil change brought the car to another place across the street for a second opinion. Other place says the lug nuts are fine. Scheduled appointment later in the week (Friday) for an oil change and tire rotation and arrived a little early. First thing I noticed, there were just (2) guys working. One guy was working on the engine of a vehicle that seemed to be taken apart, while the other guy was doing everything else. This guy answered the phone, drove the cars in and onto the lifts and backed them out, worked under the hoods, worked on tires, spoke with customers, checked people in and out. There were business cards on the counter with store manager's name imprinted. I asked if I could speak with the manager and was told he was not in yet (it was after 2pm). It was a two-hour wait to get my car done but those two guys did a great job. They should have their own store because clearly, they were running the place! But the question remains, why are these guys working alone, without so much as someone to help with answering the phone and writing up orders? I would recommend this shop but only because of the two guys who were working their butts off to take care of customers. Monro Muffler Brake Incorporated, do yourself a favor and promote the guy who is already doing everything, to store manager. Your sales and customer satisfaction will go through the roof! I went in there to get a new catalytic converter for the exhaust on my Honda Civic and was quoted $1,243.61 for the part and the labor was $105/hr and would take an hour an a half they said. This was all after they tried to upsell me on new tires and a brake job which I didn't need since I had just gotten new tires 2 months ago. They must have thought I was just some idiot woman. I left there and called 3 other places for this converter and the Honda dealership quoted $639.44, Napa auto parts quoted $453.00 and an on-line Honda parts store quoted me $253.88 for this part. Also the labor rates were under $99/hr. So these people are truly in the business of ripping people off. They actually had the nerve to quote me a part that should cost in the $200 range and instead threw a thousand bucks in there and wanted to charge $1,243.61 for the part. From first to worst. I used to Monroe Muffler at 173 Dolson Avenue in Middletown NY t when Brain and Paul were their ...great work...Both of them left and they were replaced by two people who are yes men who think you are stupid..My wife car was toed to them needed a new Engine...replaced with a defective one...cost me almost 4 grand, told them the new engine was defective they put in . Kept telling me it needed to brake in, drove it for several hundred miles car burn a quart of oil in 5 hundred miles, only got half the gas miles the old engine got.Told them I wanted a new engine. At first they agreed and I asked when, I was told they would have to find one and that I would be called when they found one. Two weeks went by no phone call so I called them back and I was told their still looking. Another two weeks go by I called them back and I was told well you put to many miles on the engine I am sorry they could not help me. I told them I will contact customer service on you and they did a reverse about face..Got a another engine put in..after about 10k the engine started to leak..I had to replace the main seal....Then last Friday night I was driving my son to the Baseball field and the car started to smoke and over heat. The head gasket went and it cost me 2,100 I called customer service at Monroe and told them the above. They refused to help me, save your money, this is a company of the quick buck and lack of any customer service. The Monroe on 173 Dolson Avenue In Middletown NY should have put a new Head Gasket on the engine before putting it back into my car.
