My daughter moved in these apartments 3 months ago and has had to put in over 10 maintenance requests. Absolutely ridiculous! Things that do not exist here with this group, responsiveness or urgency. As parents we should not have to be included to ensure things get done, but her father and I have on separate occasions needed to interject just to get a response and results. I've only had a positive experience with Jamal, but with his promotion we are left with a guy who sits in the corner slouched down like his mom made him come to work and new employees who don't have a clue what's happening because they are too new so we cannot really fault them. My daughter said that Lucien is good, but I don't have personal experience with them so I cannot personally validate this. What I can validate is the location is good, but take note of these reviews when you are looking. If you can repair your own appliances, then you shouldn't have a problem. read more

We had a problem with our lock and Alexis responded immediately. Wasn't a great time so she went out of her way to accommodate us later on. Began living there in 2014 and was one of the first residents to move in. Stayed six years so I have seen every change that was made. Security was great in the beginning because they invested in a private security company that was on call 24/7. That eventually went away. There was free yoga 1x/wk-that also disappeared. The inaugural GM would have great events for the residents-that ended once he left. From that point forward, constant high turnover in the leasing office. You never knew who you would end up talking to. Concierge: slight turnover with concierge but even with that, they have always been mostly competent and professional. Yes, I had a package of 2 lost over the span of 6 yrs. but that was usually during the time there was a temp concierge. Toni and Take have been the best and most effective. They are 2 of the nicest people I have ever met (genuinely) and honestly, my saving grace at times when I was unhappy with the other departments. Security: Again, they started out with private security but that concluded within about a year or so me living there. The security throughout the years that followed were just simply unhelpful. Constantly on their phones, didn't seem to be paying attention, etc. The private security was more personalized, knowing the residents names and helping whenever needed. We also had a personal number for them we could call. It was REAL security. With the exception of one security officer who seemed super racist but I'm pretty sure he was a "one-off" as the company was black owned. Maintenance: Similar to the other departments in the beginning...started off with a consistent team, and quality maintenance men. As years went by, the team became more creepy! Very suggestive looks and comments. One time, I had to call them for after hours-the man who showed up looked at me in such a sexual way, I made sure to stay on the phone with my mom the entire time! That's how uncomfortable he made me feel. Disgusting! Another guy would make so many comments every time I passed him, such as "smile" and other things. It was so frustrating that I finally stopped & cursed him out (he deserved every bit of it)! One of the maintenance men who I thought was friendly, turned out to be just as creepy as the others. He obviously took my friendliness for granted. So much so, stopping by my apartment randomly (when there was no maintenance request submitted). Way out of line! To be fair, the actual WORK did get done but at times, was hit or miss. There was one guy there, named Daniel, who was always nice, friendly, competent, and PROFESSIONAL. I ended up requesting only him, and he wasn't available, I would wait until he was. Amenities: Amenities were nice but gym equipment needs to be updated if they want to compete with all the new buildings going up. The community room became a CU library, to the point where the students felt entitled to ask us to turn tv down, etc. I was like absolutely not-go to YOUR library. Pool is nice but rules change every summer. Building itself was always kept clean and I appreciated that. My apartment was near the trash room and I never had any issues with smells, overflow, etc. Last but not least...MSM leasing office: As previously mentioned, high turnover rate. This always usually results in incompetence and miscommunication. Unfortunately, I felt MSM mgmt displayed alot of unconscious biases and microaggressions towards me as a Black woman (I have an entire documented folder throughout the 6 yrs) while I was living there. For example: Because the buildings turned into a luxury dorm for the Catholic students, you can only imagine the noise that was experienced on a daily basis. One night it was like SEVEN girls screaming, partying, etc between their apartment and hallway. I asked them to be quiet, they were disrespectful, and from there, security was called. The next day, I was emailed and summoned to the leasing office as if I was the threat...to a group of SEVEN girls yelling at me. I was appalled, offended, but not surprised. During the height of the pandemic, I was harassed by Laura (GM at the time) regarding rent, although there were mandates put into place. I unfortunately fell into the category of not being able to work and they were aware of this. They threatened to take me to court at a time where MILLIONS of people weren't working and unable to pay rent. Sickening! I haven't lived there for almost 2 yrs now and was just recently sent to the credit bureau by MSM for an unpaid balance. My entire balance was covered by pandemic assistance! I didn't have a balance before the pandemic because I paid my rent on time, every month for almost SIX years straight. I will be taking them to court for harassment and emotional distress. If anyone else has experienced this from MSM, please feel free to reach out. read more

After living here for a year I can say this has been by far my most pleasant rental experience. The broker and property manager are both extremely accommodating and well equipped with knowledge of the property. But most importantly the apartment and it's multitude of amenities were amazing and it truly does feel like home. I highly recommend renting here. read more

This place has a lot of potential to be a five star apartment but is missing a lot of things. I live in Monro. If you live by the side entrance, get use to walking a lot because the elevator never works. since I moved i the elevator has only worked 20% of the time. I also live on the six floor so if the elevator does not work I have to go up six flights upstairs just to get to my place. there is never any notice that the elevator is not going to work it just doesn't work sometimes it doesn't work for the whole day. They do not have enough garage space under monroe so I had to get a garage parking pass for the building across the street and still pay over $100 a month to park my car. They told me they do not have a wait list and I have to call back every month just to get a spot in my building. Lately I noticed that the gyms never have wipes and also the gym equipment is missing. There is a call box at the bottom of both entrances any of them work. But like I said it has potential to be pretty big if they would just fix these applications because it's in a really great location. read more

As a young woman finding somewhere to live can be a bit nerve-racking. Between price, security, and location-everything can make you feel a bit overwhelmed. But I can truly say after one year of living at Monroe Street market and renewing my lease I have found a new place to call home. The entire staff - namely the manager Greg, and concierges Tike and Vanessa have made me feel at ease in this building. I receive my package is in a timely manner, and delivery instructions are always followed to a T so that courier's come upstairs and drop off groceries right at my front door. Monday through Friday the building has cleaners that come in to make sure that the standard of living is always up to par in stairways , common areas , and amenities. Thank you Monroe Street - for giving me my moneys worth and then some. read more

One huge reason of living out in Brookland is to avoid the hustle and bustle and loud noise. Yea right. Great location, terrible acoustics between apartments (once I got all my windows to close well, the cold air and sound were filtered out better), and honestly terrible communal attitude. Yes, I hate to say it, but a few bad apples (immature students) have really soured my experience. You will hear bass thumping, doors slamming, and smell weed. All the time. How are these kids even getting to live in these apartments? Oh that's right, Daddy and Mommy's money. Too bad money can't buy class. Yes, I have actually overheard myself being called a "b*tch" by my neighbors. Thanks for making my home feel like a restless place. read more

Every time I have a maintenance request I specifically ask for Alexis. She is always very pleasant, knowledgeable efficient. She really knows her stuff. I am grateful to have her on staff because if she comes to address my maintenance issue, I know it will be well taken care of there has hardly been a time where she has had to come back for the same issues. Let's get straight to it. For context, I only lived here on an 8-month lease... Positives: -Gym with free weights - squat rack and bench press -Fairly quiet neighborhood (if you like that) -Concierges are really cool and nice -You can't hear your neighbors through the walls, or those above you Negatives: -You can literally hear everything in the hallway through your front door -The building is a maze, and I was thrown to the wolves when it was time to move in as far as finding my way around -Mice running around the courtyard and stairwells of the building -Old appliances that are constantly breaking down or sound like they're on the brink. Examples: 1) My air conditioner stopped working THREE times in the middle of a DC summer. While the parts were coming I had a bulky, super loud plug-in AC in my apartment. It took 1-3 days to repair each time. 2) My ice machine in my freezer stopped working. It was "repaired", but never worked again. I didn't ask for it to be repaired because I work from home and by now I could tell this was a pattern - wasn't worth having someone come in and repair it at that point. Woulda been nice to have ice though. Also, the refrigerator sounded like a lawnmower the whole time I lived there (REALLY surprised it did not break) 3) My dishwasher broke twice. The second time I just left it broken because... see above 4) The garbage disposal broke a couple months (3) months before I moved out. I just figured I wouldn't put any food down there anymore because.... see above -I was threatened with my final bill going to collections just 10 days after it was issued. Maybe this is a law, but sounds unreasonable to me... My opinion.... if you have the means there are too many good, nice places in DC to deal with all this read more

My boyfriend and I moved here from Chicago a few weeks ago. As you can imagine, moving across the country can be such a stressful process, but Tobias made everything SO easy for us & has been so kind, welcoming, and super communicative. The location and staff are great and would be an ideal place to live but unfortunately have to give a bad review because of the college kids and mice. I lived in 2 different apartments at the Cornerstone. We had to move out if the first one because of the constant noise from surrounding college kids. We had a balcony which thought would be nice to have but was not so. The sound from the other people on their balconies and the pool area was super loud; garbage from other balconies made it to ours and a HUGE security concern bc people can (and have) walked on the platform just outside the balcony (people can walk into your balcony or into apt if window open). We moved up to the 5th floor which was much better initially bc Catholic university closed. Once freshmen were allowed to come back and moved into the building we experienced the same noise issues again. We complained about the college kids multiple times but nothing really changed. We also had a mouse in each apt even though we kept our apts extremely clean but that could be the downside of living above a restaurant. Great location but it's an overpriced dorm. Would not recommend. read more

DO. NOT. MOVE. HERE. Let me tell you all the nonsense that has happened at this building in a matter of 3 three weeks: 1. When I arrived, the electricity wasn't on (not their fault). This - on top of all the other stresses of moving - maybe made me a little high strung. The person at the front desk asked me if I needed the elevator, and I advised her that I was on the 1st floor. Turns out the loading dock is in the basement so we still needed the elevator, and when I asked her why she didn't say anything, she said, "Well, you were rude to me earlier, so I didn't want to help you." I told the leasing office that the concierge talked to me like this, and they didn't care. I was told I'd get a follow-up call - that didn't happen. 2. We had been waiting for a box to return our cable box from Verizon for WEEKS. They advised us they sent 2 boxes and we never received them. We spent literally dozens of hours on the phone with them trying to figure out where these boxes were. Turns out, they were with the front desk the whole time; we were never notified. I even received other packages during this time, and they never gave us these boxes that were waiting for us. 3. I use Fresh Direct. In the last 7 years I've used them, I've never had a problem with them delivering right to my door, regardless of if I lived in a doorman building or not. The doorman STOPPED the Fresh Direct delivery person, and did not allow him to deliver to me. Instead, the concierge wrote me an email (didn't call! wrote an email!) saying I had a package. Thankfully I was near my phone and was able to grab my food before it spoiled. Of course (this seems to be the norm) when I came to the front desk, no one was there. So I just grabbed my package and left. The concierge then called me and DEMANDED I go back to the front desk and sign for it. Seriously. No joke. Eff this place. read more

He helped me find my second apartment I'm renting there, where my older dog won't have to walk to far to go outside and for less money than my last apartment! May I also add that once a month or so the property has get togethers for tenants in which Greg offered me a delicious pie all to myself to take to my apartment! read more

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING LIVING HERE PLEASE READ THIS. I'm beginning a series where I will document my horrible experience here daily until something changes, because it seems they reply to people on here. My experience has been HORRENDOUS, and that's being generous. I live in a 2BR and have the complete horror of having 3 college guys living above me, in a 2 bedroom. Every day (during peak hours of the afternoon, as well at 9PM - 2:00 AM) I hear noises that range from jumping, stomping, college parties, pounding, dropping weights on the floor, just constant relentless and uninterrupted noise. I wish this was the worst part but read on for where the real problem is.... Quiet hours are supposed to start after 10:00 - 11:00 Pm i believe. that's where you're supposed to keep the level of house down. On the contrary, my three worst nightmares upstairs take quiet hours as a time to be their absolute loudest. Not only that, I call security 4-5 times a week, and guess what they do? Nothing. It's been 5 months and NOTHING HAS CHANGED . The leasing office has done nothing to help resolve this issue. Please save yourself from the migraines and take this as a WARNING. I would put 0 stars if I could, and maybe a negative star for the management who so clearly doesn't give a care about their residents peacefulness or experience. read more

My bf and I have lived here for seven months now, and we are happy with our experience. We are working professionals in our 30's. Honestly, I think the Catholic students get a bad rep, and I'm not sure why. The students are always polite to us and are usually studying or minding their business. We have lived in another Bozzuto building that was a total shit show - and these were all adult, grown-ass people. It's pretty quiet and we have never had any issues. I may have heard someone being loud once or twice on their balcony since we have been here, but that's about it. We are city people, so this is pretty peaceful to us. There was a mix-up with our application, but since then we haven't had any issues with the leasing staff. Our maintenance requests are usually addressed within 24 hours and the concierge staff is always professional and attentive. The gym is spacious and has plenty of room for a decent workout. The metro and multiple bus lines are a short walk away. Brookland also has a fair amount of decent restaurants and bars around the neighborhood. No building is perfect, but overall we are pretty happy with our decision to move here. read more

I recently came here to help a family member with moving some furniture. Waiting by the elevator seems to be a crime as I was told that I'm trespassing. If your considering living here make sure if you have guest make them aware that the concierge service makes people feel like a criminal. read more

There are a lot of pluses to living here: ·The Metro (Red Line) is right next door. ·Uber finds its way here in minutes. ·I love my neighbors and almost all of their dogs (there is a very aggressive pit bull in my building that I avoid at all costs with my smaller dog). ·There is a good amount of neighborhood retail (Chipolte, Barnes & Noble, Bus Boys & Poets, Starbucks, Kibana Hair and Nails, &Pizza, BGR Burgers, PotBelly, Great Clips, and Ace Hardware are all within a block's walk from any building at MSM. And Tropical Smoothie is soon to open on the Arts Walk). MSM is also just 2 blocks from 12th Street NE where there is more retail. ·The CUA campus is just across the street and it is beautifully kept and accessible to everyone. ·Part of the Metropolitan Bike Trail is right here at MSM. ·There is a year-round Farmer's Market on the Arts Walk. Festivals such as the Persian/Iranian Norooz (New Year) celebration and other annual events or pop-ups also take place on the Arts Walk. ·The Arts Walk has 27 artist studios open to the public at scheduled times. (the pottery and watercolor artists are my personal favorite). ·The head concierge (Tke Mba) is fabulous and will always do his best to solve any problems you might have. ·The maintenance team arrives at your apartment within 24 hours or sooner if there is any problem with anything. ·There are 5 building residences to choose from, each with its own personality. ·It's a little on the expensive side, but there is underground parking for those who might want it. ·There is an in-apartment washer and dryer in every apartment. ·Brookland itself is a really nice place to live. There are some pretty great people here. Cons: ·If you are dependent on Amazon delivery, it is best to live either at 625 Monroe NE or 701 Monroe NE. It seems to be impossible to get Amazon to deliver to the other 3 address on any consistent basis. This is not management's fault. They have put hours of time into directing delivery personnel to the right addresses. But Amazon just doesn't follow through and, if you don't live at 625 or 701 you will have to spend a lot of time looking for any mail from Amazon. ·Washington, DC is a city. There will be noise from people passing through, from buildings that have the most undergrad students, and from traffic at times. But this is just city-living. Choose the building that best fits your style. ·Over the years (meaning about 4 years) the property has deteriorated somewhat. There are walls with chipped paint, scratched up elevators, benches with the paint peeled away, rugs that are taped to the floor because the edging has pulled away, a couple of areas that never seem to really get cleaned up, lights that burn out and don't get fixed for months, etc. There hasn't been any noticeable effort to repair any of this so far. ·There are a lot of kids hanging around on a daily basis (especially at the end of a school day) smoking weed, plus some other drug business going on. This is city-living again. I don't know if this can be avoided anywhere. For me, so far the pluses still outweigh the cons. I would miss MSM if I were not here, not only the many advantages of living in this neighborhood, but also the community atmosphere. read more

My advice: if you are out of college and a fully employed adult with a low tolerance for idiocy or immaturity, don't live here. These buildings are glorified sorority and fraternity houses filled with entitled students with no respect for adulthood. If you don't mind people running down the hallways shouting on a Tuesday night, or hanging by the swimming pool listening to girls chat about their sex lives, than maybe this place is for you. But if peace and quiet is more your style, move elsewhere. The frustration is not worth the in-unit washer dryer or granite counter tops. This place will eventually spiral out of control. Despite three roaming security guards on the weekends to crack down on the rowdy student residents, there is no way to control them. This place will soon be entirely infiltrated by students whose parents pay for them to live in this beautiful community dormitory style - four to a two bedroom, three to a one bedroom. It feels crowded, and sounds crowded, considering the seemingly consistent party outside in the hall. The reason Monroe Street Market gets three stars, or any stars, is for the staff and maintenance teams. I have never had a problem in my unit that the staff couldn't help me fix promptly and with a smile. Unfortunately for the wonderful people working at MSM, shout out to the property manager David, concierge Jonathan, head security guard Andre and leasing agent Kara, I can't give any more stars and I wouldn't recommend living here. read more

I have been a resident at Monroe Street Market for 2 years and I love it. The neighborhood has amazing restaurants and eateries that is walking distance, and a dance studio and Pilates studio that I have personally partaken in. I love that I have the convenience to walk to Bus Boys and Poets for breakfast on the weekends, or Brookland Pint for drinks and dinner . The office staff and maintenance team is very prompt and professional. I have had zero issues living here, which is why I've recently renewed for another year! read more

I moved over to Portland Flats several months ago, and the all the downsides of living at Monroe Street Market seem to be an order of magnitude worse here. More false fire alarms. More elevator outages--one of the two elevators has been out for months, with management e-mailing apologetic "updates" once a week with no ETA for repair, while the other breaks down far more frequently than the single elevator in my old building. More rowdy parties, broken pictures and lights in common spaces, and stoned college dudebros eight years younger than me hitting on me in the elevator. I've even had my packages slashed open in the mailbox room (when they should've gone to the concierge in the first place). Adults with careers would be highly advised to look elsewhere, else the omnipresent weed smoke might trigger flashbacks to the worst of your college dorm days. read more

Don't choose this as your next home! We have lived here since March 2019, first on the third floor and now on the fifth floor of the Cornerstone building and both apartments have had a mice infestation. The third floor apt also had cockroaches. It is disgusting and furthermore it feels like living in a dormitory. Recently I walked by the elevator and someone had puked all over. Both apartments we lived in had loud noise coming from either the neighbors or the ventilation system. We moved to the fifth floor hoping it would be better but still have the same problems here. It is definitely not worth the hefty price we pay. Our balcony was always littered with cigarette butts from the person living above us. This is a horrible choice and we are moving ASAP! Spare yourself the stress and pain of living here. read more

Came here to tour 2 weeks ago and was suprised that they are trying to get the rent they are asking for. Lets start with the neighborhood: sketchy at best. Right next to the building is a bunch of run down shops and empty lots. The building tries to do the best job they can by saying how much retail, restaurants, etc is coming in -- but I highly doubt that stuff will be open by the summer, which is what they claim. The only restaurant that is currently open is Pot Belly. Anyways, I walk into the lobby where the leasing office is and am greeted by Kara, who was the very friendly leasing agent who toured me. She was doing her best to answer all of my questions, but couldn't seem to provide many concrete answers. I doubt this was her fault, it seems as if management hadn't given her the support she needed to be effective at her job. She was somewhat confused about pricing, and had mentioned that some system or pricing scale they were using is relatively new. Anyways, we sat down and went over some floor plans. We headed over to see the building that might have worked for my move-in date of mid to late May. The building itself wasn't occupied by any tenants yet because it was still under some type of construction. The elevator must have had some type of glitch because the doors kept opening and closing without actually taking us up. When we finally made it up to the appropriate floor we looked at 2 different 1 bedroom with den units. They both were nicely finished, but again -- I am just shocked that they wanted $2,000-2,500 for this neighborhood! Both dens were very awkward shapes and there wasn't much effective square footage in either. They also aren't running any specials, which is totally confusing to me. They don't even have the amenities in place yet! When I asked Kara about the pool she couldn't guarantee that it would be open by summer time, she simply said "they're doing their best and hope to have it open." In other words, that pool is NEVER opening by summertime. I work in real estate, and have lived in countless buildings in Manhattan -- if management makes a promise it is likely that you should add on 3-6 months past that time. Which I understand, construction is subject to be delayed -- any tenant should know this when moving into a new community. Anyways, I currently live in a Bozzuto building in Alexandria, VA. The reason I even checked this place out is because my husband and I live so far away from my job -- this particular location seemed like something that might work that is kind of in the middle. We knew that we have the ability to transfer within Bozzuto without an issue as long as we give 60 days notice; however, this definitely won't be the property we choose to move to. Last gripe/confusion: parking to tour was SO confusing. I must have circled around the block 3 times until finally calling to find out where I could park. They had me park in a lot that was clearly marked for the construction workers.. which is fine, I was just surprised they didn't have a huge sign saying "FUTURE RESIDENT PARKING". Seems like this place needs a lot of work moving forward. read more

I lived at MSM for a year and loved every interaction with staff from the front desk to leasing office. Maintenance request are completely quickly and all emails to the leasing office where addressed within 24 hours. I am giving MSM a 4 star because I hated living in a dorm for catholic university. The students are rude, have excessive parties and leave trash all over the complex. The staff do a great job trying to keep the space clean but I hate to pay high rent to live with college kids. I never heard my direct neighbors; I was on a top floor in cornerstone but I did hear all the hallway noise and every party from other apartments down the hall. If you don't mind the college kids then you will love it here because the staff is incredible! Easy access to restaurants and metro. read more

The apartment complex is beautiful and the location is definitely up and coming. However the management is disorganized, uncommunicative, and difficult to work with. They could rarely give me an answer to a question I had and often gave me incorrect or incomplete information. They were slow at responding and disorganized with every process. It seemed that there was no "fool proof" way of getting your questions and requests answered and the communication was lacking considerably. Each person told you a different thing, and I did not trust the administration. If I had the choice, I would look to rent from somewhere other than a Bozzuto company. The maintenance and cleaning staff, however, was a pleasure to interact with! All maintenance requests were promptly addressed and the staff was very kind. Walking around during the day, I would always exchange smiles and hellos with the cleaning staff. They worked so hard to keep the buildings looking immaculate. I'd rate them five stars! read more

Absolutely loved living here - I was in a Cornerstone apartment off of 7th street! I had a great experience with the front office - they were always really responsive and helpful. Worked mostly with Michele R and she was fantastic! The amenities are great, my apartment was dreamy for the price (I had 20 something foot ceilings and concrete floors!), and my neighbors were very respectful. The AC/Heating costs were very reasonable (maybe because of the high ceilings), and the noise level was always low - despite it being near a college campus. Everyone in the neighborhood was very friendly too - they held doors - said hello - and were very polite (which for DC is not always the case). This is to provide an update on my previous review. The comment the general manager left on my last review made assertions that were untrue. He has since resigned for reasons unknown to me. None of my issues were addressed. To provide one positive update, Busboys and Poets and Halsa have opened. Halsa is on the pricey side for what you get but it is very healthy and really good. Where do I start? The mice, the vandalism and theft, or the drunk students trashing the building and/or occasionally running and laying in the hall. My tour was great because the building is stunning and I saw the building during the day obviously. It's a whole different scene after hours and management sucks at enforcing any of the rules. Not to mention there are no cameras in the halls or elevators so there's no way to catch those who throw up in the elevator, those who are stealing other's property, or those who hose down the hallway with the fire extinguisher for fun. Of course we can't forget whoever likes pulling the fire alarm which will result with you having to stand outside at 2am freezing your butt off. I know people think negative reviews are just those that are bitter but I assure you the negative ones about this building are very accurate. I have only lived here a few months and I truly regret it. I've never lived in a place like this where it's a constant sh*t show and management could care less. It's not cheap to live here and it's clear their main priority is money. My one star goes to the maintenance staff that has to put up with all this crap and clean after everyone and the overall look of this beautiful building. However you should never judge a book by it's cover! The crime, the mice, and the over privileged kids make this place a nightmare. (& I'm sure there will be some textbook "we're so sorry to hear this... let's talk about it" response but it's bs. As you can see below PLENTY of complained and talked to management and nothings changed. I read the reviews prior to moving in and I truly regret not taking them into consideration. I was a little hesitant to move into an apartment at Monroe Street Market because I was worried it would be full of loud college students. It actually was a really pleasant experience thought and I only moved out because I was taking a job in another city. The units are well designed and comfortable. I almost never heard my neighbors although I did often hear my upstairs neighbors walking around (i.e. walls are thick, floors/ceilings are thin). Maintenance was quick (and rarely necessary). The pool area is nice in the summertime (although definitely full of college kids still). Public areas are kept very clean and taken care of. Parking was super expensive, but fairly secure. I loved living near the Brookland Farmers Market on Saturdays although if you don't like waking up at 9am to the sound of live music on the weekends, maybe the Brookland Works buildings aren't for you. Closets are big, but kitchens are very small (lots of storage but TINY appliances - think miniature oven and dishwasher). Overall, I didn't hate living there at all. The only major problem I had was with package delivery. Throughout the year I had probably 6-8 bad experiences with a package getting lost, not being logged in a timely manner, being left in a public place unsecured, getting lost, or being notified and given someone else's package. The worst part was that the concierge was ALWAYS rude or indifferent about it like it wasn't his job to make sure packages were accepted, logged, and distributed safely and smoothly for residents of the building. I complained a few times and got apologies from the manager, but nothing ever seemed to improve. If you live here but can have packages delivered to your work, do it. That experience is the only reason I wouldn't give this place a 5 star rating. read more

Monroe Street Market is adding to the great retail that has started to pop up in Brookland! The Bus Boys and Poets, Brookland Pint, &Pizza are welcomed additions. In addition, revitalizing the Brookland Farmer's Market and spurring other development will just add to the great neighborhood that already exists. Keep up the nice work with the mix of retails. read more

Living at Monroe St Market this past year has been phenomenal. They were able to navigate COVID smoothly and graciously. You couldn't ask for more with the location with all the shops on the street and the proximity to a calm residential area. 10 out of 10, would recommend. read more

The Monroe Street Market was sweet but small. We enjoyed visiting the dozen or so fresh food vendors--sampling chocolates and cheeses. The fresh bread is especially appealing! This cannot be confused with even the 8th St Market, though. It's just so, so small. We also enjoyed walking into the various artists' studios. There was something awkward about this experience, in that you're in someone's private space and you have to make smalltalk, but it was also nice to see so many types of art. If you're visiting the Monroe Street Market on a cold day, let it be known that you'll be walking outside quite a bit. The studios are not connected on the inside so you're constantly going inside to outside to inside to outside. Also let it be known that there's one restaurant at the top of the street and it's very expensive. Down the block is an &pizza. Otherwise, no food options really. read more

For a while, I was very optimistic that MSM would develop into a professionals community fitting for the beautiful apartment units of the complex. Unfortunately it has become very clear that the community will remain stuck in its current state as a glorified college dorm for affluent CUA students interested in a rule free living environment. The current management team has done very little to address the issues the community faces, especially compared to previous managers. There are frequent noise disturbances throughout the evening and night (only time I am in the unit) with groups walking through the hallway blasting music and shouting to each other. It is clear many of the student residents have no respect for their neighbors. Vandalism is overly common with fire extinguishers being set off, holes being punched in the walls, personal decorations stolen from hallways, and graffiti throughout the elevators. Despite a no smoking policy the hallways frequently reek of cigarette smoke and pot. It is disgusting being subjected to this environment every time you leave your apartment. During the summer the pool area is overcrowded with college residents inviting their non-resident friends to spend the entire day at the pool. The conversations and behavior one is subjected to by trying to use the pool (especially on weekends) is truly appalling. The grill section often plays hosts to loud parties and groups which creates constant disturbances for every unit facing the buildings courtyard. I understand living in a community located next to a college, one should respect more inappropriate behavior than normal. However the problems at MSM are far greater than anyone should have to endure. Most importantly it is the current managements inaction to address these issues and maintain some state of decency within the community that is most disturbing and will only lead to the further corrosion of these beautiful buildings. read more
