I bought a pair of cowboy boots in Texas but both heels broke. I took them in for repair and was so pleased by the result. Due to the pandemic it took a while to get them back but the wait was sooo worth it. The price was reasonable and the boots are now perfect. The staff is wonderful and welcoming. Great shoe repair! It did take a while but it looks and feels great on the heel and it was cheap.

They handled a jacket zipper repair in 5 minutes after I walked in. Reasonable price ($8).

Brought two pairs of leather boots in for heel/sole issues and they came out looking great with beautifully conditioned uppers. Pretty quick turnaround and I felt safe with their covid policies. To give you an idea of pricing, I had one pair resoled with Vibram lug soles for about $60 and one pair had the heel built up and replaced with a Vibram lug heel for about $30. These boots look and feel much more durable now than they were new. Would recommend, and the prices are fair for the labor and materials required. read more

Today I made my first but certainly not last wonderful encounter with the folks at Madison shoe repair. I called this morning needing a hole punched in my belt (same day) and they were very accommodating. I was able to drop in at my convenience, and they did a seamless job on the spot, taking only a minute or two. When I went to pay I was waved off because 'holes are free.' I am so grateful to have a small business like this in my community and highly suggest everyone bring their shoe/boot/belt business here, as they'll be met with friendly faces, high quality work, and excellent customer service :) read more

I came here to get a boot repaired and to be honest I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience. The lady in the shop was nice enough and the shop was in a great area but I think the repair job was a little meh. First, the woman that is there on the weekend really did not and could not answer many questions; of which I had many. I have never had to repair a boot before so I had a lot of questions about what would happen to the zipper that needed to be fixed. I understand as an entrepreneur you need a few days off but I also feel that the people who relieve you should know a little bit about what you do other than simply taking the shoes. I wanted to know if she would be able to keep the zipper but the woman was not able to give me a direct answer and instead asked me to call and speak to the owner during the week. I had every intention on calling but mama be busy! I also asked about the price of the repair for which I was quoted one thing. When I came to actually pick the boot up I paid a different, higher price. Not much higher but enough for another drink during happy hour. The thing that really made me mark this place down was something all together different. My boot has zippers on both sides of it. The functional zippers are on the inside part of the boot. I think that without knowing this the cobbler attempted to open the outside non functional zipper as they now need to be repaired. At this point I think I will take the non functional zipper to her to fix simply because the next closest place would be an east side location and I don't think it's really that serious. But after that I will not be taking any shoes there again. I like consistency and I do not feel like I got much of that at this place. read more

I bought some expensive ladies dress shoes that came with a delicate leather sole. I was advised that if I want to wear these shoes more than one night I should get a new sole applied to the bottom before I even wear them. I took them to Monroe St Shoe Repair, and they did a Beautiful Job! The shoes still look delicate and lovely, but with a much hardier bottom. You can't even see the new bottom from the side of the shoe. I also brought in an old pair of Men's shoes, which they shined up and revitalized. read more

I picked up my boots today after a new heel cap was put on them, there were scratches and scuffs around the heel, like they were using a crow bar to get the old heel cap off, the boots were over $250 dollars and in excellent shape when I brought them in. I asked for my money back, but it will not correct the damage that was done. read more

I took my boots to an east side shoe repair that I've used in the past (they do fine work). I was told that it would take 8 WEEKS to get my heels repaired (this in the middle of winter when I wear the boots 2-3 days per week). Since I couldn't wait that long, I decided to try Monroe Street Shoe Repair. My boots were done in 6 days and the heels have held up well in the month since they were repaired. The price for the repair was reasonable. I will drive a little farther to go to Monroe Street in the future. read more

I love that I can keep wearing my favorite shoes that I may have previously thrown out because of problems with the lining, heels, soles, etc. I'm amazed at what they can fix. I've been raving all afternoon about my first experience with Monroe St. Shoe Repair today. I had 2 parkas (one North Face, one Alpine Design) with zippers that were "stuck" ... the type that you can't get the zipper to move and the coat zipper is open, but for the part where zipper is jammed. Then enter Sally (if I remember name correctly). I took in my jackets and she said "it looks like its the slide. If you have time to wait, and if I don't have too many customers come in, I can fix it for you now. It's getting cold and we need our winter coats!" I sat in this cute little vintage shop for all of 5 minutes, enough time to spy the delicate little shoe ornaments hanging from the ceiling. Sally came out with my jackets ready to go with zippers repaired. Cost - $15 for both!! I am thrilled by the great (and reasonable) customer service experience. Walked in to get a snap added to a leather garment, and the woman working there (Sally?) stopped what she was doing to help me out...even installing a fresh, new snap on the spot! The best customer-service experience of all time! ...and for a very reasonable price, to boot! Ok, really 4.5 stars and that is because it wasn't on the east side where I live. I'm sure I could have found places closer but based on reviews I decided to try Monroe St. Wasn't disappointed at all. Dropped off a sleeping bag with a broken slider and was told it would be done on Saturday. Well as you can see I'm reviewing this on Friday. Done early and they called to let me know. Small thing really but as it was a small repair and was impressed. Friendly service and she explained what happened to the zipper. Happy to pay $9.50 to save a $75-100 kids sleeping bag. read more

It's about time that I finally write a review on MSSR. Anyway, the zipper of my beloved Lululemon backpack busted for a third time. I had it repaired at a place near my parents' place in Milwaukee and it broke shortly after both times. I passed MSSR pretty much everyday and decided to drop it to see what they could do. It's been two months of everyday wear and tear, and the zipper is still going strong with no indications of failure. Not only did MSSR do an excellent job with their sew and repair job, they also got it done very quickly. I dropped it off on a Saturday, and it was done by Tuesday. In an age where customer service sucks across the board, this was a rarity. The place is also run by some super nice people! Kudos to MSSR for a job well done! read more

Great service. I wanted a particular pair of classic Minnetonka moccasins. I called the store before going in (I live 45 minutes away) and was told they had them. Sure enough -- and when I picked them up they were on sale, too :) I was also able to buy a leather lace for a shoe -- hadn't thought I was going to be able to find just what I needed, but it was there for a very reasonable price. I have taken my Birks here for years when they need to have a new sole put on. One pair I have had her do 6 times over the past 10 years. Great jobs done, and a quick turn around time. One time the glue did not hold on one part of the new sole, I took it in, problem was fixed/resolved asap which I feel is a sign of a good business owner. Things will occasionally happen, it is how those things are dealt with that are the mark of a good business. Will continue to get my business for years to come. read more

I've gone to a number of shoe stores around the US, and I've never found one as good as Monroe Street Shoe repair. A few years ago I took a jacket in for what I thought I would be an expensive zipper repair...ends up she was able to fix it for $5. I've had shoes repaired here (leather sole replacement) and just had a zipper replaced in a leather jacket for $50..and it looks like brand new. The owner is friendly, straight forward, honest. Truly excellent place! I brought in my Lucchese boots (that had been badly damaged by Cecil's), and asked if she could repair them. I accepted that a repair might be impossible, and was willing to take a chance. Not only did she repair (with a neat patch) the insteps, but she managed to salvage the welt (that had been nearly destroyed by Cecil's). NOT recommended. I would strongly discourage anyone from seeking services here. I went to get a jacket zipper replaced and the final product was TERRIBLE. She clearly did not have either the necessary tools or expertise to do this job and almost ruined my jacket. The stitching was crooked and when I asked if she could do-over the parts she had done poorly, she insisted that I was wrong and the jacket was fine. When I took the jacket to another place, the woman there assured me it was a very poorly done job. The only good thing I can say about this place is that I got refunded for the hideous work. This was fortunate because she was charging $45 for bad quality service, not cheap! Save yourself the trouble! read more

We had a great experience with Monroe Street Shoe Repair. My wife and I do a lot of recreational ball room dancing that imparts a fair amount of stress on leather shoe straps. Unfortunately there are no reliable shoe repair shops where we live in Dubuque, Iowa. Since we absolutely love Madison, we discovered this shop through Yelp.com. The technicians and owner presented very congenial and helpful dispositions making us feel very confident about leaving my wife's dance shoes for repair and mailing back to us in Dubuque.
