This place needs a good cleaning the chandelier is full of thick dust. Especially hanging over a table, that is disgustingly not good. Owners need to clean the door and make it appealing for customers to feel good going into their establishment. Shame on the owners for not cleaning it. read more

There is more about Monrose that is nostalgia than anything else. The hotdogs are OK, not as good as they were 30 years ago, but what is. The staff is about as friendly as a den of cobras. Like I said, it's not what it once was. What I wouldn't give for it to be underneath a Windsor, Hotel Again, with pool tables and bottles cokes. My favorite thing on the menu is the slaw dog, that and the combo, which is chili and slaw on the same hotdog. These are your basic pink weenies and a steamed bun. Don't look for anything spectacular or out-of-the-way or artsy. This is basic southern hotdog joint food. They also have a hamburger steak that's not half bad and the chicken finger plate that other people do better . If you're looking for your old small town hotdog joint, this is it. read more

Food is always great. Atmosphere is cool. Wait time is crazy. Called in order at 2:05. They stated 10 mins. Got there in 10 mins and here it is 2:23 and my order is not ready. Gave me a number to wait longer. No point of calling it in if I have to wait if there is 6-10 people working in the kitchen. read more

Nifty hotdog and pool place on the Main Street in downtown americus. Bigger inside that it looks from the outside -- even has pool tables and space for music / performances. COVID-19 era -- curbside p/u or to-go orders only... well organized and mega-respect for social distancing. Quick service. Polite staff. Perhaps some of the best "eat out prices" you can find in the area, or the country... three of us enjoyed dogs and fries for less than $7 -- and none of us went hungry. The dogs & fries themselves - well, they were okay. Not bad. Not great. The food is cheap and really good. You might question some things when you first walk in. It's a long walk to order from the front door but don't let that stop you. With the prices you'll be tempted to get some of everything. I wouldn't stop you. Ask questions, they're friendly. The burgers are hands down the best thing. The hotdogs are really good to. The fries are so-so. The tea and lemonade should be avoided, just go for the soda. You can add chili and cheese to just about anything. Perfect college spot. read more

The best chili slaw hot dogs anywhere on the planet. There is no comparison. When I was in college during the 1990's, one of my college buddies from Americus told me about this place and we made the trip down with him. Boy, was it worth it then and even better now. Circa 2011 + , the wife and I have flown down, landed at Sumter County airport then hopped in a FBO courtesy car (after buying a couple hundred bucks of avgas) just to eat some Monroe Dogs.. Good spot for hot dogs if that's what you are after...no frills, no thrills but this place is super popular and has been for years...they also have hamburger steak which is really good...I had a chili dog and a slaw dog and really enjoyed it...I think it would be a little better if the bun was toasted but it was good nonetheless...definitely a great place to check off on your foodie list! read more

They've got a dandy chili dog here. Most folks get em with cheese, I didn't go that route but saw several. Looked okay if you like that sort of thing. Same with the slaw dog. It was processed dry cabbage they spread on or so it looked rather than spooned. The chili dogs were clean small jobs. Eat one in 3 bites riding a bicycle no spill so much as a morsel. Good too! Chili was spicy sweet meat sauce with zero beans. Bun was split down the top. I'm a sidewinder guy myself, but to each his own. It wasn't a premium weenie but the flavor was there so who cares if it's all beef or it's parts pork too. I always felt the part they was calling 100% beef wasn't the part you used a steak knife on Saturday night anyway so what did it matter. They make good chili dogs here. They are cheap too. They make a lot of em and they've been doing it a long time. They know what they are doing and don't cotton to advice when it comes to hot dogs. Not they ain't friendly enough. They are. Nasty , nasty, nasty .... Literally one of the worst places I've ever eaten . Super cheap ingredients and terrible staff . You kind of walk in and are reminded of the old days you know like when there were still slaves ? It definitely doesn't give you welcoming vibes if you aren't apart of the majority . I drive over from Leesburg when I can to stop at Monroe's. The best scrambled dog I have ever had. I consider myself a chili dog connoisseur so I try to find them as we travel around and out of all of them I have tried, these are the best. The hot dogs are fine. Nothing out of the ordinary though. Chili appears to be canned and not homemade. Fries were not hot nor cooked well. Grease may have been old. Fast service though and decent pricing. read more

This place is an Americus institution and a visit is required if you are in the area. Excellent "pool room" food. The hot dogs are great and the hamburger steak is my favorite. And you can't beat the prices! Get there early for lunch to beat the rush; they can get busy in the blink of an eye. read more
