Our dogs played for a bit and then my husband and I both used the restroom. We actually took a nap in the car for about an hour. There is pretty limited shade here in the parking area but the good thing is that it has the basic things that you need and there's not a whole lot of traffic through here so it was quite peaceful. It was nice to be able to get some rest before heading back out on the road.

The house has an interesting history about the original owner. We had a room on the ground floor where there is a living room, and small dining room off the kitchen where breakfast is served. The room is small but cozy with a good size private bathroom next door in an ante room area. The house is decorated with lots of interesting collectibles - we had an amazing model of an old sailboat in our room. Comfortable bed and pillows, and a good shower with adjustments. Not sure what the normal breakfast time is but the hosts are very accommodating. We had to leave early in the morning so they made us two delicious breakfast sandwiches from scratch for the road. Just wished we'd had more time to look around Choteau - this is definitely a place we'd return to next time we are in this part of Montana.

So, we did some research and decided it would be fun to go to the Montana Dinosaur Center near Choteau and do a tour/dig. After a bit of research, we found this campground was close enough, and from what we could tell, looked like it would be fine for an overnight. We arrived mid-day, and the very kind woman in the office checked us in and then drove us to our site. From the distinctive shape of the building, I would guess this used to be a KOA. Upon arrival to the site, I will admit, this is the strangest layout of a campground I've ever seen. The sites are lined up in a row, so you have to pull in very oddly and cut between other campers when you want to leave. The lady explained that this was designed in the 60's and it is odd. Once you get settled, it's fine, but at first I thought we'd get trapped with the way they are lined up. This is the only reason I gave this place 4 stars versus 5. Anyway, we only stayed one night, but found the campground to be exactly what we needed for our quick stay. The bathrooms were extremely clean, the setting to walk our pup around at night was nice, and it was quiet, even though it sits next to a main highway. If I needed an overnight in this area again, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I had the opportunity to take a vacation in June to K Bar L Ranch in Montana. Not only was it a…read moreneeded vacation but one that allowed a full disconnect. No cell service, no internet, no TV, no vehicles, just your own two feet or horseback to get around. To get to this ranch is typically on horseback, packing in all the items on a mule or a trailer behind the draft horses. But if you time it right they will take you by boat to the Y of the Sun River which is were the lodge is at. Three meals a day are provided with the package and you can decide what you want to do for the day. Horseback riding to the mountains, hiking up the amazing trails, fishing in the river, or spending the day in the sun in Medicine Sprinsg. (Natural Hot spring) This is also fabulous after a long hike btw. The meals are delicious, the service is exceptional, the cabins are basic, yet perfect. (I have never slept better) The outhouses are modern day bathrooms with showers. For you hunters out there, I hear the Elk hunting is amazing. The scenery is breathtaking. That release of the constant need to check your phone slowly disappears. To worry of what's going on with the stock market fades away. The appreciation and gratitude for every minute in the day skyrockets. The reminder that the journey to the top of every mountain you climb is one step at a time, so enjoy each step!
