What we ordered was not even as described. And I would have really enjoyed a second beer, but the waitress never came back to our table

We didn't stay at the hotel, but got a nice tour of it and liked how many nooks there are to read or play games in, how different rooms/floors are Shakespeare-themed, etc. It seemed very well thought out - not just another basic hotel chain. Steel Cut Porridge: If you love dessert for breakfast, this is excellent. The banana is caramelized (flambeed?) and the oats are perfectly cooked and sweetened with the birch syrup. I got this twice and it's just the right amount. Avocado Parfait: This was weird, but edible and very filling. I wouldn't get it again - the avocado was a weird choice. Like a sweet guacamole? Pain au Chocolat: Fresh and warm, a little soft (I like them a little more crispy on the outside and soft inside). Decent amount of quality chocolate inside. Crispy Smoked Bacon: Okay this one was maybe not as well priced as you only get three pieces of bacon, but it was tasty and I didn't have any regrets. Thin cut, wide, fatty slices. Maple Breakfast Sausage: No complaints, nothing too special, so it was a little pricey at three sausages. Better of course dipped in maple syrup! Bruce Blend Tea: This was quality black tea, but also just okay for me personally. I appreciate that they tell you how long the tea should be steeped and give you a timer for it. Apricot Tea: I liked this a lot on its own, but I liked it even more with some maple syrup, which made it taste like peach rings. Lychee Tea: This was nice and also I liked it better with a little maple syrup. Fabulous service. On weekends you get hot towels, which I thought was kind of funny. There is a path just outside that leads to the Stratford Festival Theatre, which is nice. I don't know that I could afford to stay at the hotel, but I would definitely come back to the restaurant.

We ordered: blue crab hashbrowns (the only standout; would definitely order again, except that I won't likely return), salt roasted beets, brussel sprout caesar, scallops, and duck breast; then we both had creme brûlée and espresso. We tried the three white wines, one was a forgettable Chardonnay and the other two...were equally forgettable, notwithstanding being less common grapes. Only the duck was a main-size serving, and we only chose it because when we ordered there was only one order of scallops remaining (for a 5:30 seating!). I want to say "just as well" because the scallops and sauce were bland so we got to try something else...however the duck was not merely uninteresting but the red pepper sauce didn't complement and contributed nothing. The scallops were priced like a main but only four little guys on the plate, the one upside if we had both chosen them we'd have had room for another order of those crab hashbrowns. The beets were also dull, no idea why the word salt is in the name because it was absent from the dish. No tang to anything except the brussel Caesar. I've seen the brussel sprout restaurant renaissance of the last 10-15 years, this dish is pretty common now. This one was on a par with many others I've had but no improvement, and some might be put off: fully half the outer leaves are charred to the point of becoming a mouthful of ash. Not crispy, just dry ash. I guess that's different...and maybe this is the root of the problem. This restaurant makes a point of changing their menu constantly; not just seasonally, but weekly, even daily. So maybe they're just trying out stuff that pops into the chef's head. With the exception of the crab, every dish seemed to need something to make it interesting or appealing. The espresso was good, but the creme brûlée was another ill conceived concoction, with some kind of raspberry trifle thing on the bottom and the creme was a strange thick porridge-like texture and not quite the typical flavour. Last complaint: their self-description says Elevated Comfort. No. Mundane bistro look and ok seating, but that steep and poorly lit descent to the basement washrooms is the opposite of comfort. Hey, maybe we just picked the wrong items from their evolving experiment of a menu. The people are all nice, the service was good, and none of the food was bad...just meh.

This restaurant's sit in an old revitalized church and there is a lot of charm to it. From the stain glass windows to the beautiful chandeliers, it's definitely a beautiful place for any celebration. The staff here are very friendly however we did get a newer staff member who seems to not know the menu well. We had a misorders and the food did take a while to come out. Mind you, we weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big concern and they were very apologetic for bringing us the wrong food, which they corrected promptly. The food itself was good. Everything came out on warm plates and tasted great. We went for brunch so we had brunch/lunch options for food. I will say the food was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. You definitely come here for the ambiance more than the food. Though despite saying that, the fries were super crispy and hot, and I really enjoyed the duck flat bread which was pretty unique. All in all a wonderful celebration and beautiful space.

Food-wise, pretty average brunch/lunch menus. They did have a nice variety of eggs Benedict renditions and sandwiches. Service seemed a bit slow & not too familiar with the menu, but still pleasant. We tried: -Duck flatbread (5/5, loved the textures and the pickled pear flavours) -Leek & smoked Salmon tart (4/5, I will say the tart had an incredibly tiny portion) -Beef & shrimp eggs Benedict (4/5) -Steak & eggs -fried Chicken burger -monte cristo sandwich -Reuben sandwich Honestly, all the food tasted good and was cooked well. Albeit smaller portions for some of the non-sandwich dishes and prices slightly higher than your typical. TIP: Make sure you walk around and tour their upstairs floor!

Alright folks, here is the good info on The Prune in Stratford:…read more Short version: absolutely phenomenal. Glass wall teaching kitchen turning out the finest food that hasn't yet been awarded a Michelin star (I'm going to make a call after posting this because it is deserving of one). Long version: it's called simply The Prune; the restaurant is on the main downtown drag in lovely Stratford and is not to be missed. There is simply not one thing they aren't achieving culinary excellence with - we tried a smattering of offerings such as the fresh oysters, the house made sourdough, the chicory Caesar salad, the house made tofu dish, and finally the flank steak (a perfect dish IMO - hats off to Randi and Mike and the kitchen team). Every one of those dishes listed hit with style and flavor rivaling the best restaurants the world over - yes, if you're wondering, I do like to exaggerate but I promise I'm not in this case. It's just that good. Atmosphere is very pleasant, the place is super clean and modern, and the glass wall kitchen means you can watch the team make magic if you wish. Oh and my margarita was great too! Go, eat, enjoy. And catch a show at one of the theaters. You're welcome
