I somehow had two punctures in my tire -- one a small screw, and one a rock?! -- that I needed to patch. I brought the car in and the owner took care of it while I stood around and chit-chatted. Super-easy, super-quick, and a super-fair price. Montclair often feels a bit like Richard Scarry's Busytown; I like to think of this as the Busytown auto shop. Brought my car here out of desperation after my other mechanics retired and closed their shops. Very pleasantly surprised. The mechanic (don't know his name, but there's only one, and he's an owner I believe) was very knowledgeable. He was able to source scarce Honda parts (this was during covid supply chain issues). His prices are *very* reasonable. I will continue to bring my work here. Actually reluctant to post this review in case he gets too much work and can't fit me in. One limitation seems to be that the car needs to be running when you bring it in (no tow-ins). On the fueling side of the business I rate as 4.5 stars. The easy access to air is nice and quite rare in Oakland (in spite of whatever the law requires). Fuel prices are good considering this upscale neighborhood. I would give 5 stars if they had clean soapy water to clean my windshield. read more

This is truly a hidden gem in Oakland and almost like and archeological discovery of times past when people were honest and cost of services were attainable for everyday working people. I must point out that this business should have an overall 5 star rating rather than the misleading 4.1 that it has acquired owing to moody people with petty complaints. I moved into this neighborhood as a shared house renter about a year ago. That being said, I do not represent the typical socioeconomic bracket that makes up this area. I started stopping for gas soon after I moved in only to realize that this biz consistently has the most affordable gas in Oakland. It caught me off guard considering it's location is the gateway to the wealthiest neighborhoods in the area. A gas station is a gas station and I wouldn't be writing a review if I hadn't eventually used the Automotive services. I bring it up only to mention that the people who wrote lower star reviews about this place all had petty complaints about the gas station. Some thought the equipment was too old, some were offended that the cashier wasn't wearing a mask, and I noticed one that complained it wasn't open 24 hours. You CAN get gas here 24 hours. Who could expect a single mechanic to work in the garage 24 hours though? Sorry people but the world really doesn't revolve around you. The reason I read all the reviews is because I was planning on bringing my older Volvo in for some basic maintenance. Let me tell you- after a lifetime of bad experiences with mechanics, the prospect of taking my car into any mechanic gives me major anxiety. I almost expect to get ripped off and to return to a bunch of overpriced services that I didn't authorize. After reading all the reviews I learned that auto shop reviews were all good and this man is a longtime trusted mechanic. I had a good gut feeling after the first time stopping by and inquiring about services. I was asked to drop my car off around 5 or later. He's a busy mechanic with little space so he has the next days projects dropped off at the end of current work day. I felt his authenticity and integrity upon meeting. I left feeling pretty good about my decision. He gave me a loose possible quote for maintenance which was shockingly low for a Volvo. Of course I expected the actual final cost to somehow double even if he was is an honest mechanic- there's always something... The next day when he called me to pick my car up and gave me the final total I literally almost cried tears of joy. It was LOWER than his verbal estimate! I wanted to give him a huge hug of gratitude for being the first honest mechanic I've ever met in my 46 years of life. I refrained as that definitely would've been kinda weird. He jokingly asked if he charged too little and asked how much I wanted him to add to the cost I'm not sure if my elation at pick up seemed overboard but it was real. As someone who's always survived on a relatively mediocre income in the Bay, I've usually had older cars and lots of mechanical problems. To finally find a mechanic with integrity who really seems to know what he's doing, what he's capable of, and charges fairly is a beautiful gift that brings peace and comfort to my life. When I left I joked that now that I've found him I almost look forward to my next car problem. We had a laugh and I left with all of the anxiety leaving my body. P.S. Stay away from this gas station! The gas is overpriced - 16 cents more per gallon than down the street in Montclair and in Temescal. The owner is rude and does not take very good care of his customers. He is crabby and does not create a very nice experience. And an oil change is more expensive than when I go to the dealer on Broadway. If you are on fumes, get gas here. If you want good customer service and better prices, go somewhere else. read more

This place is great. I have been taking my Jeep to Kambiz (the mechanic) for over 7 years now. He is honest and will not try to sell you anything you don't need (which is great for me because I know nothing about cars). A couple of weeks ago I brought my car in with a dead battery and he replaced it and did an oil change that day. It was ready a couple hours after I brought it in...and he replaced my break light for free. I will continue to go back! read more

So here is the thing the star is for the 76 station down the street- because on Sunday night they stay open the entire time their posted hours indicate- We pulled in at 7:45 on a Sunday night on fumes- coasted in really after yelping to find a Chevron station near the highway. The attendant had turned off the computer early and was locking up the pumps and said go away we are closed- CLOSED and felt that was enough the hours said until 8. We have a chevron gas card- we wanted chevron gas- nope we got 76 and a mouthful of attitude from the guy cutting out early.... Chevron service station 0 out of 5 stars. read more

Update to review. I found out that it's not legal for a gas station to refuse a custom air and water. We all pay an extra fee when we purchase gas. I went over to talk to the owner of this business and he claims he knows the law and he chooses not to provide air or water. He doesn't care about the safety of his customer. Very sad. I plan on reporting this business to the BBB. Realized I'd never reviewed Kasmir, and need to rectify! First, the other reviews. Every one about mechanic services gives five stars (23), plus a 4 star. All the rest are 1 stars and are about gas price (1), gas purchase (2), bathroom (1), attitude (2). You can decide if they matter. I'm #24 5 star for Kasmir, a great, trustworthy mechanic. Had a blown head gasket. He sourced the new block and installed it, and wasn't satisfied. The remanufacturer denied a problem. So Kasmir ate the cost, because he wasn't satisfied, and had already agreed to a price (which was reasonable, too.) He returned and resourced the block. No charge for the extra labor. I doubt many mechanics would have the character to do that. In fact I'm certain there aren't. He's the kind of guy who makes a community special. read more

The manager abruptly closed the door on the propane cabinet and told me to purchase the tank from somewhere else. No real reason was given.. they just said to call roadside assistance instead and walked away. I went to another shop and it was taken care of in 10 mins with no problems. read more

I am giving this station 3 stars because the owner of station and the mechanic are two separate entities. The owner is a first class jerk who is nasty and has no concept of customer service. We refuse to buy our gas there because of him. My husband and I brought in our car to leave overnight which we have done for several years. We could not drive it further because of a bad fuel pump. The attendant, his employee, refused to let us do this. We could not drive it back home so we had to leave it. The owner, the next day, would not allow the mechanic to work on it. His temper and just plain mean disposition is known throughout the neighborhood. The mechanic, Kambiz, on the other hand is a delightful, honest and good person. He is a good mechanic and will tell you if something is worth fixing or not. His prices are reasonable and he stands behind his work. I trust his judgement completely. I would give five stars but the owner detracts because of his poor customer service. It is a shame that the owner is such a putz. read more

I've been a customer for years and send my friends there for any auto repairs! Kambiz is the mechanic (independent contractor) who won't rip you off! He will even recommend a cheaper alternative even if it costs him business! That's unbelievable in this day and age! He will also let you find your own parts if you get them elsewhere. Or tell you a cheap way to fix it yourself! He doesn't own the place, and we've talked about improvements that will never happen. The gas attendants are pleasant and will want to chat (with limited English). Gas isn't the cheapest - but that's not the guys' fault... And the bathroom isn't clean enough to use... and only accessible thru the shop. read more

For many years I was wedded to my VW dealer for the regular services and paid a premium for it. The organization and bad communication between the departments became exasperating and my husband kept raving about Kombiz and how good he was to work with. I always feel Kombiz lets you know what is necessary, tells you when work can wait and provides reasonably priced efficient service. He's prompt, communicative, gives me a clear picture of when my car may need X or Y -- then helps me find the easiest way to make it happen. Often SETTING IT UP HIMSELF. I trust the mechanic person I know him years but didn't stop by much but when I need work I go to him he is honest and try to work as soon as he can since he give good price I try to tip when I can. He have been taking care of tom the house owner who die last year from accident . I'm very comfortable go there because of him. Very very sweet person. My tire was losing air from a puncture (screw). I called early morning to find out when I could get it fixed. He told me I could come right away and it would be a 10-15 minute job. Awesome. I'm pretty sure my credit card has been skimmed from this gas station.The pumps are older and you don't have to enter your zip code before the transaction is authorized. It's a good thing my bank caught it in time and all the fraud charges were denied. I will not be filling up here again :( read more
