They changed the name a while back. It's now Monte Real. Same great food. Same large Dos Equis.

This was my first visit to this Tlaquepaque restaurant. I came in with a bunch of family, and we…read moreall enjoyed it. Our server was Olivia, who was really skilled. She was nice, professional, and available. She is really excellent! So, as far as the food goes, everything was good. We had a plain cheeseburger and fries for a kid. Another kid had the shrimp tacos which were really good. Three tacos with a side of rice and beans. The shrimp was super tasty and the portion was of a decent size. I had the pollo portosino, which consists of pieces of grilled chicken cooked with bacon and topped with cheese sauce. It also came with rice, refried beans and tortillas. The flavor of this was pretty great. Good salty bacon came with it, and I like dishes with tortillas on the side. The rice at this location is very good and has plenty of flavor. Another family member had the Mount Airy special, which is basically a chimichanga (chicken in this case). Chimis are always a good meal, and this was no exception. Overall, the whole table was pleased and we came away with our to-go boxes and a smile on our faces. I've been to a few of the Tlaquepaque locations and this one is up there with the Pilot Mountain NC location in terms of food for sure.

I know that's not a lot money, but over time it adds up. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager who stuttered trying to explain why the charge was there and hung up on me (rude). Just another way these people nickel and dime everyone. The food used to be good but was cold and not that good. Will never go back after supporting them for years, done with them.

There is a candy stand at the desk too. The service and attention to detail was amazing. The fooooood was a big star. I am on a mission to branch out and try a lot of new food this year, and today that included a bit or two of each dish ordered- An ACP dish, a burrito, a steak taco, spicy sauces, queso and chips, and my actual order- the pupusas. Everything- was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the pupusas- which I hear may be a salvadorian influenced dish? The shrimp in the different dishes was cooked perfectly- which I know from my various excursions and attempts in the world and my own kitchen- is not a guarantee. Accessibility notes: FULL stars. Various seating and options, tables and booths, room to navigate comfortably. A small ramp outside on the curb. And the bathrooms were actually fashioned correctly- in the handicap stall the bars were in the right places and at the right heights- as was the toilet paper holder- no bending necessary to access it seated. The door to the restroom was not too heavy either. Very refreshing as this is often a chaotic messed up set up at some place. We came as a group, for a friend lunch date after thrifting and we had a fantastic time! So happy and we will definitely be back!

Most of the tables needed to be wiped off including the one we picked but the staff kindly walked over to clean everything up. Our server started off a little rocky but we still managed to have a great time. I order the Birria tacos and order a drink, and so did my friend. The Birria tacos were really good but I do think it could use a little more flavor. I still ate every bite. The Salsa and Queso was honestly my favorite. I love Queso anyway but theirs did not disappoint. It was so hot with no lumps! Overall, I would recommend for a quick lunch date and the drinks.

The menu offers a large selection as does the cocktail menu. The service is what stood out. The waitress checked on us as did 2 other gentlemen. Manager and owner perhaps? Having had over 40 years experience in hospitality and food service I've been more disappointed in the waitstaff than happy, and I'm not a picky or demanding customer. I'll be a repeat customer to El Maguey

I ordered two lunch chimichangas and a small cheese dip. The girl told me over the phone it was $19.20 and told me my number to pick up was 30. I get there and she said they didn't have a number 30. She looked up my phone number and said it was $39 and some change. I said you must have the wrong order pulled up. You told me it was "$19.20" she said the system wasn't updating. I ask for a menu to see the prices. I said the math ain't mathing. A different girl said it's $30 and some change. Sooooo three separate totals. I walked out and didn't get the food! I'm not kin on restaurants especially local ones trying to scam customers!
