While home during the holiday, my brother said that we should go to Monte's. With me being a pescatarian, this was a good option. We ordered our dishes and ate family style. We started with shrimp stuffed with crab and mushrooms stuffed with crab. I remember the Byram location being heavy-handed with lemon in the hollandaise sauce. It was not heavy here. For the main dishes, we ordered stuffed catfish and redfish Diane. Both came with pasta, which was a nice accompaniment. I must say that I was shocked at how few patrons were in the restaurant. There was a total of three tables the entire time my brother and I were there. Service was outstanding, and the food was good. My brother remarked that the Byram location is also empty. I had dinner there last night. This is a surprising place with a sign on the door is a strip mall. Inside it is elegant but not over the top. I found it on a search for seafood restaurants. I recommend the scallops. They are well prepared and served over serving of pasta. With a wine sauce. For some reason the water did not taste right. I got there early and stayed a while. There was a large party and several parties of two and four. The servers weee kept busy but I never felt abandoned. I'll be back. read more

There's a lot of hate on here for these folks. Likely fueled by competition or, in keeping with the region, racism. This man and his sweet wife have been serving the greater Jackson area for 40+ years. We were not familiar with them until tonight. Due to the difficulties of keeping staff onboard in recent years when most of your workforce are lazy, state-dependent political constituents, the owner's wife waited our table. She was most kind and attentive. We started with the stuffed shrimp then had stuffed catfish and voodoo ribeye for entrées. These were fantastic in themselves but the crown jewel was the bread pudding. All of our food was hot and tasty. Worth every penny. We will return. read more

Meals for two people without drinks, only water. - First impression: Not good!!! Strip mall location at a busy street. Got inside and there was no one to receive clients at the podium. We had to go meet the lady that was close to the bar and then, she took us to a table. The restaurant looks run-down and old. There was a strong kitchen smell or fumes inside the whole establishment, which left our clothes stinky after we got out of there. - Then the menu came: The menu was literally papers someone printed from a computer that weren't even laminated, so they were very dirty And also wrinkled. - Service: great server. She was very nice and attentive. - Prices: Wow, we couldn't believe the prices were so high, so we thought, let's see if what the reviews say is true and the food is really good and maybe the food reflects the price! But unfortunately that wasn't the case at all. - Time waiting: there were only two more couples in the restaurant, which raised a flag for us since it was Friday evening in one of the most upscale places in Brandon, MS.Yet our very mediocre food took a fairly long time to get out of the kitchen. - Drinks: We got a wine menu we decided to avoid due to extremely high prices ranging from from $7-$60+ for cheap wines. They only had Anheuser-Busch beers, which screamed the word mediocre in my head. I can find a better selection at the pizza places around town. - Food: Salad that we got served, we were able to recognize from the local grocery store's premade bags of cheap lettuce with shaved carrots and cabbage. The dressing was definitely bought probably from one of the same places and it tasted like it. The amount of salad was so small that it was served in a dessert plate. There was a bread piece cut out of one of those French or Cuban bread loafs you can find in the same stores mentioned. - Then the food came; We asked for the chef's signature dish called Voodoo Ribeye which costs $60(59.95) with mixed veggies and Sweet potato and another with mixed veggies and pasta. Wow!!!!!! That dish was not worth $25 but we paid $60 plus taxes each. The steak was not even 1' thick, the shrimp were cheap breaded fried shrimp(Not even Jumbo shrimp) you can find in the same places in frozen bags. Again, the veggies were the same ones we buy at the grocery store in frozen bags. The chef put the shrimp on top of the steak, drenched in an overpowering sauce that doesn't let you taste the natural flavor of the meats or even the sweet potato because the whole plate was covered with it. We felt so violated when we finally got the bill for over $130 without even ordering any soda or alcoholic beverage. We can't comprehend how people are giving this restaurant 4 or 5 stars. Have they ever eaten in a good restaurant? We literally had a 2 star restaurant meal at a 5 star restaurant price. Needless to say we do NOT recommend this place to anyone trying to have a decent meal for an honest price! This is our most honest review for this place and there is no way we could give it more than 2 stars. We just got robbed for our meal! read more

JUST DONT. NO. New option on DoorDash so I was very happy to try after seeing some reviews for 'chef Monte'. Called ahead of placing my DD order and asked about the spice levels etc (ordering for my elderly Mom too). Manager was very confusing...yes this is Monte's but your food come from other location...I decided to give it a try and the best I can hope for is that someone reads this and DOES NOT ORDER. The food, five items (prime rib, bisque, gumbo, stuffed mushrooms) I received was tasted rancid. Heavy old grease flavor that comes when food sits out. Soups have a 'glue' flavor. The ceasar salad is better in the Walmart bag and the prime rib is just dry and hideous. I called the only number listed for Monte's, got the same asian gentleman and when I asked to speak with Monte the chef/owner mentioned in Yelp reviews I was told he's not in, not available and all food cant be THAT bad....and then he hung up on me. Thank you Doordash for the refund. Shame on this place for what they are putting out. NO. read more

We tried Monte's Saturday night and unfortunately we left both disappointed and feeling ripped off. There were a total of 15 people in the restaurant from start to finish including us. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, it was one huge cake that was burnt black on the bottom but gummy paste in the middle.. it tasted more like cat food but we waited so long for it we tried to eat most of it and I didn't get a before picture. Next we both ordered steaks. I ordered the filet and my husband order the voodoo ribeye. We each got a side salad that consisted of a few pieces of lettuce a few carrot shavings and very watered down dressing. We waited forever to receive our entrees. My medium rare filet was predominantly grey with a hint of pink, way over cooked. The sauce that was on it was terrible. For your sides you could choose between a baked potato or sweet potato plus the steamed vegetables. I asked if I could swap the vegetables for anything else since I didn't like carrots or cauliflower I was told no. My husband asked if he could have fries instead of baked potato and they said yes. The lady at the table next to us asked if she could have sour cream for her baked potato and they told her no they didn't have that. I felt fortunate to get brown sugar for my sweet potato. We both drank water and ordered nothing else. Our bill came to $165 for possibly the most mediocre meal and dining experience we have had in a long while. Let me start by saying the service was good. My husband's and daughter's food was alright. All I wanted was a bowl of gumbo and it definitely had tons of seafood on top, but the gumbo was roux only, no veggies, the roux tasted ok, but I could not eat it. It was Gray Y'all!! I almost threw up when I saw it!! My daughter couldn't get past the dingy stained tablecloths. I remember eating at Monte's when it was in the Quarters (years ago) and I remember it being superb. Good service, terrible food. Everything was covered in the same lemon sauce. We started with the house salad, not bad, nothing to gush over. Then we had the crab cake, it was so so and covered in lemon sauce. Then our food arrived - red snapper Ellen and bourbon ribeye - frozen veggies, frozen fish, no topping the baked potato and I could not tell what was what with my red snapper. I have eaten at Montes about a dozen times and the food has always been delicious and fresh seafood. I like the red fish with stuffed shrimp the best for a meal and the mushrooms as an appetizer. I have only had the bread pudding for dessert once and it was the best I have ever tasted! read more

A hidden gym at the reservoir. My wife and I went on a random Wednesday evening and had a great meal. I had stuffed flounder and she had red snapper. I came in and ordered to go and waited as I sat at the bar. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was nice. The bartender was nice however she didn't offer anything to drink as I waited. I ordered stuffed mushrooms as this was one of my favorite dishes on their menu. When I got my food, it seemed to be undercooked. Neat place, super kind wait staff, absolutely horrible food. It looks like it had been frozen for quite some time and smelled extremely expired. We could not even stomach it. I am tempted to call the health dept. It was very pricey for the quality of food. I am not joking when I say since my visit, I have had nightmares about being forced to eat that food.
