I have been coming to Monte's restaurants since 1993. I love the food and the people. I love their pasta and steaks.

Great service, but the food really missed the mark. Our seafood pasta was watery and flavorless, and the seafood didn't taste fresh. The stuffed flounder also lacked seasoning, and the vegetables that came with it were frozen despite being listed as fresh. The staff was the best part of the experience, but sadly the food wasn't worth the $95--we felt like we paid restaurant prices for Sysco-quality dishes. read more

On our way through Mississippi, we decided we'd like seafood for lunch. I did a search for somewhere near Jackson and Monte's popped up. So glad it did! The hostess/waitress was very nice and checked on us numerous times but, not too much. Great personality! The food was very good. The salad had a bit too much dressing for my taste but, my husband loved it. So, a matter of personal taste. I should have asked for it on the side like I normally do. My husband has said before that with condiments it's as though I wave the bottle over things instead of actually putting them on the food. ‍ The stuffed shrimp had an amazing butter-lemon sauce on them. I put the leftover sauce on crackers because I didn't want to leave it on the plate. The seafood fettuccine was wonderful as well. If I lived in the area, this would be a go-to place for us. When first arriving into the building I noticed that there was no one else there as well as it being dead quiet. At first I thought nothing of it and continued to get seated. The server there was polite and helpful at first. I got the seafood bisque and thought it was amazing and the food would be too. sadly I was mistaken when the food arrived. First, the bread was stale. Secondly when I received my steak that I ordered "medium" and cut into it I was lost for words. The steak came rare and I couldnt tell at first for 2 reason. One was that they smothered their steak with this sauce and secondly the lighting was dim. I then asked the server to cook the steak more and she continued to say that medium is commonly "red". I have been to many steakhouses and eaten plenty of steaks to know "medium" from "rare". My coworker also ordered a steak medium well but got an overly well done steak. The steaks also tasted like watered down steak somehow. I do not recommend this place, especially with the price tag that comes with it. read more

The biggest piece of garbage I have ever experienced. I can't explain it any worse. Only people in there, ordered an appetizer, 45 min later no drink, no appetizer , had to beg for bread like it was 1789. TRASH. I got no clue how this bum is still open. read more

Very yummy food. We tried this gem for my hubby's birthday & weren't disappointed. He got the steak-Rib rye, I had the fried shrimp & our daughter the chicken tenders. Our orders came with salads, baked potatoes & bread. We ordered the stuffed shrimp app that was only ok, also a bowl of gumbo which was yummy. Stay away. I hate leaving negative reviews and potentially hurting someone's livelihood, but this place is a waste of time and money. Apparently years ago this place was something very special. Maybe they sold it to someone who doesn't care? I don't know. The hostess/waitress was trying her best to do her job but the place is just too run down. We should have known by only one other couple on a Saturday night that this was a mistake. The restrooms are gross. The tea is gross. Table clothes are stained. Menus are dirty. The salad was brown and warm. Pathetic food (probably from Sam's). Corny 50s doowop music playing loud. AND it's expensive. I'm can now confirm what other -2 star reviewers have said. Service was 5 stars! Perfect! Ambiance was 4 stars! Food was barely mediocre. Seriously, super disappointing. Frozen microwaved veggies, my chicken pasta dishes didn't have chicken, my fault for not complaining!, steak was not even 1/8 in thick, and cost $46! Bread pudding sauce had crunchy sugar in it. Cheese cake tasted bought/ frozen from Sisco. Now by far the BEST French fries I've EVER eaten, and my husband said best oysters he has ever eaten, but we spent $160 one 4 people. So to compliment 2 side dishes ain't saying much! read more

I wouldn't write a bad review unless it was really bad or really good. Sorry to say this but , it wasn't good at all. My husband and I ordered the cheese fritters for our appetizer. It came out beautifully golden brown but once we cut it in two, the batter was raw. I thought it might be the cheese but when it was tasted, it was raw batter! The meal was worst. I ordered the redfish Nikki. The fish was drowning in a sauce that couldn't cover up the fact that the fish was not fresh. Even the crab topping was off. Definitely not worth the $85!!!! read more

Saturday date night was at Monte's Steak and Seafood. This place was only 10 minutes on the 55 from Baptist! Much closer than I thought. The place was quiet, dimmed lights, the perfect setting for a romantic date night. We were quickly greeted and seated. They started us off with some bread, but from the pictures I've seen online, I can tell, the food is saucey, so I saved the bread for a different purpose I got the side salad with raspberry vinaigrette, oh was it great. Just the right balance of sweet and tart, and those bits of deep fried croutons were a treat! He ordered the voodoo steak topped with fried shrimp, and oysters, cooked medium rare. We usually don't prefer an overly sauced steak, but it was great because we were able to use our bread to soak it all up. The steak, that steak was cooked perfectly, extremely tender! I wished I got my own piece! The fried seafood on top was delicious, the batter were very well seasoned, now we really want to try his fried seafood platter. My redfish was blackened then topped with a cajun cream sauce, again, it was great with the bread. I was afraid the pasta and the sauce on the fish might conflict in flavors, but not at all, the pasta went very well with it. Overall we enjoyed our dinner, we will definitely be back to try some of his fried dishes. I heard they have Sunday buffet, so I'll be back for that too! I included a menu for yall. read more

HIT-and-MISS; I've eaten here once and everything was decent. The last time I ate here, the experience was less than appealing. My salad seemed to have dirty lettuce which I didn't notice due to dimmed lighting. After chewing on some lettuce, I noticed a grainy crunch in it. I looked at the lettuce and it didn't seem to be clean. From that experience it was difficult for anything else to be pleasurable. The service was nothing to rave about and poor considering the amount of time it took for the food to be prepared and brought out. I have had no plans to return. read more

So I came here for lunch one day while in the area for work a few months ago, and it was so good I had to go back. Came back the other day and it was just as good as I remember. The place was mostly empty on a weekday at lunch time, and the waitress actually recognized me from the last time I was there. As for the food, let me say the seafood bisque is the best I have ever had! This stuff was amazing and full of flavor! I also had the stuffed shrimp last time and those were good too. For entrees, I had the seafood pasta the first time which was very good, and the Cajun salad which was massive and also flavorful. The chef himself actually came out and apologized when something wasn't quite right with the order. I will be sure to go back here next time I'm in Mississippi. The bisque is incredible. read more

Waiting over 2 hours to get food, one steak was rancid and needed to be sent back, another steak was so rare it was cold, had a huge gratuity automatically tacked on because we were a party of 6, the service was horrible, sat in a side room where half the tables were unmade, stains on the table cloths, in the main room there were 3 parties, all in all about 10 people. My colleagues and I thought we would get a "quick" lunch before one had to fly out in 3 hours and I had to drive to Birmingham and the other to Louisiana. We arrived after the normal lunch rush and orders were taken, but did it take forever to get two seafood salads and a baked fish. We would up being pushed for time so badly that our colleague had to leave before finishing her meal so as to make it for her flight. The food was ok but nothing extraordinaire. I was hungry and The food looked great from the pictures, but didn't hit the mark. The service was okay. I got the stuffed shrimp and the red fish on pasta special. The stuffed shrimp had kind of weird mayonnaise taste. They weren't good. The red fish was breaded and then put on wet noodle that made it soggy. The noodles had no flavor. Do not eat here! Food was terrible!! All 5 of us got different things and all 5 things were terrible! Tasted burnt but you could tell they tried to mask it. I used to work here. The staff are very friendly. Monte is a master at his craft. The food is Delicious and will have you coming back. His wife is usually there in the evenings and tends to the Bar, she will hook you up if you are wanting a well made drink. She is a Dr. during the day, crazy right? You get drinks from a Doc. Lol. They are all awesome. Their family hails from Nigeria, and he honed in his Cooking abilities in Louisiana. So expect a bit of yummy razzle dazzle on your palate. If you want to take you S.O. out somewhere special, this is the place to do it. Oh and from experience remember your waitresses gratuity. That's literally how they make their living. My wife and I stopped at Monte's for lunch on a recent trip through Jackson Mississippi. We wanted to try something a little different and off of the beaten path. We found Monte's on Yelp, although we had seen it many times as we passed through Jackson along Interstate 55. My wife and I wanted a steak that day so we selected Monte's Steak and Seafood. Problem was that Monte's didn't have steak available on their luncheon menu. No problem, I ordered the Chef Monte Cajun Salad and my wife ordered the Redfish Sarme. The wait staff was really nice and the food was good. They brought us out some hot bread and butter which was very good. My seafood salad was good and a lot of food. My wife really enjoyed her fish. I would go their again. I think they should have cornbread. The meal we had just called for cornbread. read more

This is literally the best food I've ever eaten. The stuff mushrooms and crab cakes are to die for. It was bursting with flavor. I ordered the award winning stuffed catfish, and I must say that it was without a doubt the most favorable meal I've ever eaten. The service was excellent, granted they weren't too busy. Our server was very lively and entertaining. It took awhile for the food to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. It's a little pricey, but you do get a ton of food. This place is awesome!!! The food was sooooo good and our waitress (Karen) was so very sweet and answered every question we had about what each dish was like. We ended up each getting the crab cake appetizer and stuffed shrimp appetizer so that we could try both. It was enough to fill us up! Especially after the delicious bread pudding we shared and managed to finish off! I plan on going back and trying some different things! There was so many awesome sounding things it was hard to make a decision. And the prices were fair too especially seeing as though it's not out the freezer and heated up like most of these places. They actually prepare it as you order. So it's worth the wait which wasn't really long either! I highly recommend this place!!!! I promise you'll love it! Traveling thru and wanted to try a local place. I really wanted it to be great. Service was great. Restroom could be cleaner. Dinner salad was small and simple, but dressing was pretty good. Tea was ok but either instant or made yesterday. Veggies were just simple frozen medley. Steak special (Vodoo) was well blackened but half step to whole step overcooked... and of average quality. Sauces were ok but needed salt. Fried shrimp and oysters were great. The $55 price tag (before tip) was way too expensive for this meal. I wouldn't probably dine here again. read more

I read the reviews before going so I wasn't expecting A1 customer service, but I wasn't expecting it to be THAT bad either Arrival 7:00 (ordered food around 8) Departure: 11:45 PM (can't make this up, and some of the party members still never received their food). Let me start off by saying I do understand we are still in the midst of a pandemic, and most restaurants are still short staffed, but the service our party received today was just horrible, and blaming it on being short staffed is unacceptable. Honestly, four waitresses are good enough for a party. When I first got there, I asked Haley if she could close the top two blinds cause the sun was hitting directly in my eye. Again I asked (trying to be respectful of the part host and also the building itself) and asked nicely at that. Her response, "girl, you call me over here for that, you could've done that yourself." Then proceed over there to inform me they won't go down (which should've just been done without the disrespectful comment). Mind you she didn't laugh, grin, or even say I'm just playing after the comment or even after I gave her a weird look and said that's what you're here for. Now I waited until the end of the night to speak to the person in charge and told her about the incident. They downplayed it, saying she was playing and did that with all her customers. No matter what they say, I know she wasn't playing, and everyone else at the tables knows it. It's okay to "play" with customers IF they start playing with you first. This was my first time talking to her besides me ordering my drink, so I'm not sure where the "playing" come in at, and regardless it should've never happened. Of course, it was another incident with the SAME waitress with another couple (accusing a lady of saying her son wasn't on her ticket when she asked her, but she asked a DIFFERENT lady). I guess we all look alike, but that situation was handled entirely wrong regardless. I GUESS she was just playing then too. It's disrespectful to accuse a little boy as she called him (but he's a teenager) of trying to skip out on his bill and accusing his mother of lying when you didn't even ask her. Plus hollering it out; just loud and wrong. It's not the customers' fault waitress mixed up tickets or had no system in place. By this time, they are blaming it on her being frustrated/busy night. I can't write so much more, but I'm going to leave it with this: a member of our party waited all the time listed above on a SALAD just to end up leaving without one because they just rushed it to get it out and ended up not cooking the shrimps all the way. HORRIBLE customer service, but overall my 2nd plate of fish (the first one was cooked so hard it was crunchy ) and shrimps turned out to be good. read more
