I attended this school from 7th through 12th grade. It was a rare thing, it's a difficult to describe culture among the faculty, but I'll do my best- an anecdote: two students steal from the school, they take thousands of dollars worth of video equipment. They get caught- now, in a normal school where students are payroll numbers, the school could have easily justified dismissing both students and even gained face for it. I'm certain they considered it to, but it's not a huge school, even the secretaries knew my name and asked me about my family when I needed to pick up some class registration form or whatnot. These two students had been going there since sixth grade, they weren't bad kids- they just got caught up in the moment and they let the thrill of what they were doing cloud their judgment. They just needed someone to put them back on the straight and narrow- so instead of dropping down like a ton of bricks they gave them the opportunity to come clean to their fellow students! What a concept- because that necessitates that the student body have a conscience and love the school, otherwise they would pat them on the back, and it also necessitates that the student body be forgiving else these two would be ostracized. They did come clean to the student body, returned everything, the school pressed no charges, and the incident was never put on their record. Now they both attend respectable 4-year universities. The capacity for mercy from a large entity is almost nonexistent it seems, a mom and pop steak house can let a guy who left his wallet in a cab come back the next day and pay, a huge lumbering chain never would. This is a school that upholds its values. Also the student-Teacher ratio is awesome and the English teachers have a bit of a Dead Poets society thing going on where they discuss literature freely with students/other teachers during lunch or after school. The math teachers are downright sassy and hilarious individuals. Overall it was an excellent experience and I feel that I was bettered greatly by it. read more

MVC is very biased with the dress code, for example, girls are always targeted for their bodies. Yet guys also sag their pants and show their behinds. The new dean of students has gossiped to other female studnets about another female studnets skirt about it being too short, which is unexceptable. And time after time they use the same excuse, that they "cant catch everyone" but will target females with different bodies types. Also dont even get me started on the political stuff at MVCS, Mrs Campos for example will dress code girls but not students wearing freedom shirts at school. Its very dissapointing because last year they made it a huge deal and it seems like they only care to dress code girls not guys. Also Mrs campos tends to get very close with male students, she's always up on them at the male students lunch tables, and it makes students uncomfortable. I hope MVCS can live up to what they say, very disapointing. read more

I worry about MVCS. Our two sons graduated with the 2nd son having finished with his 12th grade year less happy due to changes in staff and programming. But that was about 4 years ago. We have a young niece in MBCS but we are uncertain if MVCS will be as good as it used to be. Hopeful but uncertain. Why? Because our younger son kept in touch with friends still there and have received some unfavorable reports, especially about a two year college credit program called I think IB (?) which has been with problems. And the problems have shown up in decrease in student population. Beautiful campus. We hope reforms improve things at MVCS so we can send our niece there when she is ready for high school. As a current MVC student in 8th grade MVCS is the best option for a private and christian school with a huge campus and beautiful scenery. There is only one flaw in the community I have noticed. Some parents send their kids here because they can easily afford it not because they are christian. And most of the time it's the students that go here that don't believe in Christ not the parents. I believe the school does do its best in helping students find Christ but some students just ignore that and don't care. They poke fun at students who follow Christ and try to make them like to forget about it. Sometimes it's not that bad but I think thats its not right. Another thing is the hate towards the staff is so forced and is not right. The dean of students Mr. Radar is a truly nice person and cares that the students do good in behavior. For some reason a lot of students especially those who get in trouble hate him so much. Like it's not his fault you got in trouble it's just his job to help you get out of that situation that you were in before and how to stay in the good. Students need to grow up and respect their piers and should not hate those just because of what they do at the school. Hello, I am a current student here at MVCS and i'm here to give a fair and honest review. Monte Vista truly is a great school as in a majority of the teachers and staff truly care about the students. I feel like however much effort the students put into the class, the teacher's match it, if not go above and beyond. ASB plans some fun events that get students to have fun together in a safe way that honors God, although if you are not a Christian, I would not recommend this school. (Very Christ focused!) Some students say they have issues with the Dean of Students, Matthew Nadar, but personally, he isn't terrible. Students would hate any person who filled that role. Now we need to talk about the most important part of any school, the academics. Let's talk about grading system. In all fairness, Monte Vista tries really hard to incorporate new techniques into their teaching and grading system, but this new one isn't the best. In theory, it sounds like a great idea (only DOL's count towards grading... woohoo!) but in practice, it is not. The idea that MVCS has does not set students up for college in any way possible. Students are allowed to raise their grades, theoretically getting a 4.0 if they put in the effort. The only problem with this is that colleges look at the grade point average of the school. If colleges see that a majority of the students from a school graduate with a 4.0, they would tend to not care as much as a school with only a small percentage of students graduating with a 4.0. Overall, the school community is amazing, but the academic system needs some improvement. I would recommend sending my student here. Even though it is a bit pricey, going to this school is a great experience and always better than a public school. read more

While the campus and facilities are beautiful, the academics, teachers, student support, sports programs, leave a lot to be desired. very disappointed in the school for the level of teachers they bring in, and their inability to effectively communicate and teach students. Our student has fallen behind while attending MVCS. In addition, bullying from other students and teachers, occurs. I would not recommend this school. read more

Hello, I am a parent of a student that goes here and one of the dean members (Mr. Radar) is very creepy to the students. He is a man and dress codes female student for things such as low shirts, short skirts and midriff. I also have a big problem with the new grading system. The school makes it so quizzes and assignments are worth NOTHING while tests are worth the entirety of a students grade, therefore students are not doing the assignments. The school thinks it's a good idea to start a system called "Friday school" which you need to attend if you have more then 1 missing assignments. This new system is difficult for after school activities and makes me have to drive to school to pick up my child. Students take the bus for a reason because parents can't pick them up and if they miss Friday school they're forced to cope with a detention. read more

This school is a great learning environment and usually a kind community. Being at this school, I have met so many amazing people, many of which I believe I will continue to be friends with even after I leave. Being a part of ASB, the cheer team, and a couple of clubs, I have had the opportunity to interact with and make friends with so many different types of people. This school is very diverse from what I've seen when it comes to interests and other similar things. All in all, I am very glad that my parents sent me to this school. read more

A quaint place to have a church retreat. My church had a retreat here during the summer when the school was out of session. The campus is beautiful - not surprising for a private school. The school is a few miles from town, out in the country - a nice rustic getaway spot. We stayed in the Argenbright Hall Boy's Dormitory, which has a lounge and dorm rooms built around a small central courtyard. The courtyard has a weathered foosball table and a couple weight lifting machines - not in great condition, but usable. The lounge area features a piano, sofas, chairs and tables, and holds 50-70 people comfortably. There's a kitchen off to the side with a fridge and dining table. The dorm rooms were starting to show their age - for instance, the walls looked like they hadn't been touched up in years. There were kitchen staff in the dining commons who cooked for us, and man did they cook up a storm. We had steak the first night and sloppy joes the next day, yum! There was more than enough food for everybody. Juice, milk and other drinks were available in the dining commons as well. There are no nearby trails for hiking, so you're pretty much confined to activities on campus unless you drive somewhere. There's a golf course next door, and some people went fruit picking at a farm not too far away. read more

We have two daughters who graduated from MVCS. We are very please with their education here. They are still in touch with many teachers and classmates from the years they attended. MVCS provided an excellent academic experience, an outstanding performing arts program with distinctions and a competitive athletic program all for a very reasonable price tag. Our son is in 10th grade and elected to "hang at home" for the time being, participating in synchronous learning remotely. That's just one of the awesome ways in which Monte Vista has stepped up during Covid, offering families a choice to learn in person with alternating days, hang at home, or a hybrid where you can choose on any given day to learn in person or remotely. The tech MVCS has incorporated to successfully launch synchronous learning includes Zoom, Microsoft DTEN panels and some powerful and clear microphones; the remote students feel like they are in the classroom. By using two devices at home, like their iPad and iphone, students can be visible and see the classroom while working on a project simultaneously. My son also uses an old TV screen for a bigger picture. MVCS Health & Safety task force diligently transformed campus to prepare for safe in person learning. They have a plan that begins before your student leaves home and doesn't end until they are delivered safely to their bus stop, including temperatures checks, wearing masks, and social distancing on the bus, in classrooms, and everywhere on campus. The students are educated on the safety guidelines and reminded to be diligent. MVCS listens to families, inviting us into the solutions we implement. The awesome teaching staff has shown creativity in finding ways to keep the students engaged and successful. MVCS teachers continue to be available to students in office hours as needed. Tutoring for Math and English is readily available from volunteer students. Our Teachers and friendly Staff miss us as much as we miss them. We look forward to being back to our gorgeous campus. My son really misses the competitive and diverse Athletic department. We look forward to attending our amazing Performing Arts programs. And most of all, my son misses his friends. These are things we can't fix and no School can until the pandemic is under control. Having said that,, Learning in a safe environment, progressing toward our student's life goals, feeling part of a Community....MVCS is doing right now and really really well. Honestly don't waste your money sending your kids here. Since it is a private school, most of the teachers do not have teaching credentials and therefore are not trained on how to be teachers. Though many staff members are extremely caring, most of the staff members haves no clue how to teach due to lack of training. Parents, you are paying private school coasts for a mediocre at best education. Even when made aware of sexual harassment and bullying, faculty turns the other way, especially in the instance of high profile, white, and vocally Christian students. Parents, if you are looking for a safe Christian environment, monte vista is not the place. read more

Great school! Our student has flourished doing the time at MVC. The staff and educators do a great job in supporting the students. Class sizes are the size that it allows each student to get the personal time with teacher and fellow students. I highly recommend you set up a site visit. The staff and student ambassadors will take you through the classes and facilities. You will find a lot of pride and joy from the students you come across during visit. The campus setting is great, relaxed feeling as to walk about. The homework seems a little much at times for middle school level. If that's all I can find to complain about, I would say we are happy with our choice. read more

The children here are taught false religion, and I've seen abuse from the teachers. They actually hit children with paddles, and don't let them use the restroom. Taking a test while needing to use the restroom will do two things, set the child up for lifelong urinary tract problems, and split the brain so they can take a test without thinking of the pain. This splitting the brain preps the child for mind control. Where have we seen this before? The only good thing I got out of going to this school, was that they made me read the Communist Manifesto. read more

All three of our children attended school here from 6th grade through high school. The staff is professional and caring. The programs are top notch. The varied menu in the cafe includes delicious and nutritious items daily. The campus is beautiful and well-maintained. The environment is safe and positive. Tuition is reasonable, especially when compared to other private schools that offer all that this one does. There is a diverse student population, especially due to the international students who live on campus. I'm glad I sent my children to MVCS. read more

Not a safe place. They hide their faults. Harassing behavior is not penalized. Christian? Not. Intolerant behavior accepted. Therapy required if you're not in the main stream, meaning it's ok to bully you if you or your parents don't fit their ideal. I brought this to the attention of administration but to no avail. I was an international student here at Monte Vista. When I first came to the school my English was so bad that I didn't even know I was assigned homework in my math class. Although I came in the next morning having no clue as to what was going on, my math teacher was very patient with me and cared enough to stay after class and walked me through which questions to do for homework. All the teachers I had at Monte Vista were so caring and willing to help. As an insecure international student with poor english skills, I so appreciated the staff and faculty there who were loving, and appreciated the fact that they didn't look at me any differently than any other students because of my broken English or because I'm international. Thanks to them, my english significantly improved while at Monte Vista and I was able to get into the college of my dreams. Going to this school was such a terrible experience. I would never recommend this school to anyone. My education was never set as the priority. It was more like a military school than a comfortable place to learn. I was constantly criticized and harassed by teachers and staff solely based on my family life. They judge you highly on how you're raised and if your parents are together or divorced. I was always judged by the staff and they were constantly looking for something to get me in trouble for, therefore I constantly felt uncomfortable and it was hard for me to learn in any class based on how the teachers treated me. I eventually got expelled from this school for no reason other than my outside life which should not effect my education whatsoever. They always made me feel like an outcast and a bad influence on other students because I wasn't rich and didn't have a perfect life. Honestly as nice of a person as I am I have to leave this review because I would hate for a student to have the same experience I did because I know it still happens to this day, even years after I graduated and moved on with my life. I think everyone deserves to know the truth about this horrible horrible place they want to call a school. Even after they constantly ridiculed me and told me I wasn't going anywhere with my life because my parents were divorced and I was "troubled child" I managed to graduate a year early at a different school with all A's and move out at the age of 17 and get a very well paying job so that should tell you about what kind of student I was and I am in no way trying to slander the school out of anger.
