I love this place because they are nice to me. They remember my from year to year, and they just make me feel welcome and happy. Okay, Ashley's Market does that too, but they are way further up the road! Oh, and my husband loves this place because the gas is corn free, and the price is always right. Plus, he gets a kick out of filling from the old style pumps from before the pumps became gas dispensing ATM machines that play non-stop commercials. Parking is limited, but if you live in Wintergreen, Graves Market should be your go-to stop before you start up the mountain and check-in before you go because there is not a cell service at that location.

We honestly spent over an hour here just soaking in the Buc-ee's goodness! I do wish this location had picnic tables somewhere but that didn't stop us from enjoying our BBQ & Brisket sandwiches. Also, it didn't hurt to make a pitstop inside. Gas prices were on average with other nearby stations in the area. Paying at pump was where to be. Inside I made quick usage of the facilities and wanted to grab myself some drinks for the remainder of the trip. I would have used the self checkouts but I needed items from behind the counter. The line went smoothly and the employees were pleasant to deal with. Overall a decent stop at a busy location.

More importantly, and the reason I am writing this review, is that Midtowne Market stocks an ever changing selection of unusual/hard to find beers. They stock Rouge Ales, Bell's Beer (a good brewery from Michigan), and many other brands that you will be hard pressed to find without a trip to Northern Virginia. Finally, note that their selection is ever changing, so on a positive note there will usually be something new to try, but on a negative note, you might find your new favorite beer only to have it disappear the next time you visit. It's not perfect, but it's a refreshing change from the usual beers sold at supermarkets elsewhere.

Passing a beaten up truck and a few overall wearing locals, walk inside and order the fried chicken sandwich with all the fixins (onions, lettuce, a jumbo slice of a tomato, and mayo) for a whopping $4. If they ask if you want potato wedges, save $2 and skip it. They weren't very good and you literally get 5-6 of them. The chicken sandwich itself was good for being in a gas station. It's definitely better than Chick-fil-A but not as good as the best you've ever had. If you stumble upon Mac's randomly, you'd be blown away by how good a simple gas station in literally the middle of nowhere could make such a good sandwich. Mac's is a nondescript country store and gas station on Highway 151 in Roseland that happens to sell outstanding fried chicken - crisp and moist with just the right seasoning. This is what fried chicken is about, not that greasy junk at KFC. Indeed, Mac's chicken is as good, if not better, than Mitchell's in Lynchburg (also in the Crummy But Good genre). Choose the number of pieces, white or dark meat and whether or not you want a side and dinner rolls. Mac's offers other items, but it's hard to make a case when the chicken is this good. The store managers are friendly and there are a handful of rustic tables in the back of the store should you wish to dine-in. Mac's is a great place to stop for lunch while visiting the local orchards. If you're willing to overlook the exterior, great fried chicken will be your reward. Just be sure to top off your tank before heading back to town.

The careful plating of our sandwiches, ensuring everything was okay, asking how things were. It was reminiscent of having lunch at my Mom's house and how my mother would put that much effort into fixing a lunch and ensuring things were "just right." We will be back and, quite frankly, I question why it has taken us this long to come out and enjoy some quality time there while enjoying some delicious food and merchandise.

I loved the beef stew--deliciously spiced with rosemary. Both were peppery which was delicious but unexpected and a little too hot for the kiddos. We also appreciated the local peaches and tomatoes, and the homemade cookies and granola. I had a bowl of the granola this morning and loved it. Simple and wholesome and cinnamony. Highly recommend!
