When it's berry picking season, I head to Morning Shade Farm! They have so many varieties -…read moreblackberries, boysenberries, Marion berries, elderberries, raspberries. The blackberries and Marionberries, my fave. They are big, plump, and bursting with flavor. Plus, they are so much easier to pick at a farm where the bushes are staked to a trellis vs. the wild ones I pick on the side of the road. Don't get me wrong, I do pick the wild ones, but I'm usually covered in juice and my hands and arms get all pricked. When I'm here, I pick a huge bucketful so I can make pies. The berries are so sweet I just add a little sugar and lemon juice and the pies are perfect. Also pick enough so I can enjoy some plain, by the handfuls. Their blueberries are sweet and delicious, too! I make space in my freezer so I can have them throughout the year. If you don't want to pick your own, no worries, they sell containers and flats in their cute country store along with other food and gift items. This family farm is so picturesque! It's a lovely setting and it's well run with friendly staff. If you are picking fruit, definitely go in the morning to avoid the sun beating down on your back. And wear a hat!

While our first stop ended…read moreup being the best of the bunch, this farm specializes in marionberries (26 acres) with some organic blueberries (1-1/2 acres) on the side. My son is fixated on blueberries, so he happily sat on the grass and picked berries from the low hanging bushes while the rest of us focused on the marionberries. The highlight for my son is that the family that owns this farm are serious Oregon Ducks fans, so they get bonus points from him. Compared to other farms, the pickings were a little slim, but the folks are very nice.

There was only about 3 people already picking and while we were there probably only 10 other people came so there was plenty of space to pick with out people crowding you! There were 2 different kinds of blueberries although we only picked 1 kind, but gave a nice variety between sweet and tart. The owner was very nice and had buckets lined with bags all ready for us so we could just pick into the bucket and take out the bag when done and ready to take home. You also cannot beat the price at $1.75 a pound! I believe we looked at the organic farm in Portland and it was about $3.50 a pound and I am sure a lot more crowded. I am going to try and get back here again this year and definitely next year.

We stopped to pick some fresh peaches at #bellsorchard and surprisingly ran into the owner Loyd who gave us a tip on how to identify the ripe peaches. He was so helpful and friendly. Also sampled a few varieties of the peaches Redhaven , Frost, and Starfire which were so sweet and juicy. They grow a wide variety of other peaches specifically for canning, and baking. Also apples, pears and blueberries. Very family oriented!

The pavilion offered electric, water and a mini fridge along with a great kitchen prep space as well as tables and chairs for entertainment. The indoor/outdoor feel was exactly what I envisioned for the day. The kids enjoyed picking apples and then running around the open spaces. The pavilion allowed for us not to stress about weather, as it would be perfect for a rainy or hot day, thankfully, we had a perfect fall day. Great prices and easy access with plenty of parking. There are some produce stands closer in but Hartnell grows its own produce so it's exceptionally fresh.

It took 3 of us about 45 minutes to pick 11 pounds of blueberries! And it only cost us about $22 if I remember correctly. Such a bargain! And what amazing customer service. Really great place!

My kids's favorite part is picking out their pumpkins and then getting to wash them. They love washing them in the big tubs with the brushes. The pumpkin prices are more affordable than some of the bigger farms. The family that runs the farm is super friendly. We also saw a lot of great fresh produce options in their store when we went to pay. I also have attended 2 farm to table dinners at this farm and always have a great time.

We only gave ourselves 1.5 hours to do it and just couldn't find the end. But my sister went back the following weekend (one payment of admission gets you access for the season) and finished it in several hours. I've been coming here every week for the past 5 weeks! I've graduated from Hood strawberries to…read moreraspberries and blueberries. They are taking precautions for COVID-19, so you cannot bring your own containers for U-pick. Instead, you pre-pay for a container they provide (I.e. quart, 1/2 flat), and then you fill it and leave (no weighing). 1/2 flat was $12.50 for raspberries, blueberries, and boysenberries. They ask everyone stay at least 6' apart. It has never been too crowded, so it is rather easy to maintain your distance and pick where you please. The fruit is delicious, and right now there are plenty of raspberries and blueberries!
