I was made to provide proof of a Government mandate that doesn't exist that the company blamed for the breach. I explained over and over again that mandates are public information so it isn't hard to prove to be a lie, yet somehow the woman pulled up a website that supported her end. Predatory Short-Term Loans offering an interest rate of 90.6%. If for some reason you are left with no choice but to make use of their services pay it off before your first payment is due. They will tell you that you have 90 days no interest, but that is not true. You have 30 days no interest, then you accrue a fee, then you have another 60 to pay it off. After that 60 the total amount is dropped on your account. When I paid off my account the man on the phone said he does not process the payments he just schedules them and that I have to call back to get a receipt and confirmation. I advise recording all phone calls with them, document dates, times, names and everything to protect yourself. read more

Robocalls all the time and my payment was late transferring and I didn't realize in time.. So I was charged about $100 since it ended up being late. Consumers beware! This "financial" business operates just within the law. My experience was with their collections side. They sent me a notice for lab work that was conducted two years prior. I thought it was taken care of by my Doctor, but that is a whole other issue. I was no longer with the insurance company either. Monterey was billing me for almost four thousand dollars. As expected, I freaked out a bit and thought I would be responsible. But here is my warning - don't send them a check because of scare tactics. Immediately send a Cease & Desist notice. Then report them to the Attorney General in California. Not surprisingly, they are well prepared for this and have letters to cover themselves. Then do some research - chances are you do NOT owe this money at all, as I did not. The lab filed for bankruptcy the previous year and Monterey claimed that their bankruptcy trustee was told by my insurance company that I was sent a check to cover this bill. I was not. In response to my letter to the A.G., Monterey sent one of their own to them stating I merely had to provide a copy of the Explanation of Benefits stating that I did not receive the check. Luckily, my insurance company had this two year old information from a closed account. Oddly enough, Monterey did not mention this option in their first two letters to me. Additionally, the insurance company told me they would never release such information to anyone other than the policy holder. Just wanted to put a warning out there so no one else funds this fraudulent company. read more

My complaint involves Monterey Financial Services of Oceanside CA. Upon viewing my bank account a charge of $198.37 was posted to my account by this company. I have NEVER heard of this company, let alone do business with them. I have no clue as to how they obtained my banking information or was able to charge my account. I am in no need of financial services and I live in the state of Connecticut. Monterey Financial Services is located in California! I extensively researched this horrific company and found nothing but complaints against them. Consumer affairs has been contacted by hundreds of individuals that were scammed by this company. The complaints listed online are overwhelming and I am shocked they have not yet been shut down. Now I have to take time out to file a claim with my bank and change my credit card number and information to avoid any more fraudulent charges. Again, I never heard of, spoken to nor gave permission to this company to charge me for anything, therefor this is clearly a case of THEFT that must be addressed immediately before any more people are stolen from. Somehow they are intercepting credit card numbers and charging peoples bank accounts illegally. There are warnings all over the internet regarding this fraudulent business and their practices. When I figured it out and called them, they said they send out checks at the end of every month and I should get mine beginning of March. March 8th I called them and asked where my check was and after explaining my situation to each person I was transferred to and verifying my identity by answering 5 questions each time I was transferred (I was transferred 4 times), they told me I was given false information and my check would be sent out at the end of this month (March). I guess we will see in April if they actually get that check to me. My husband and I were looking for a french bulldog. We couldn't find any breeders in our area. We could only find people online selling them, which we were afraid were scams. My husband found that a pet store in our area (Fashionable Pets- Paramus, NJ) had one french bulldog puppy. He called and asked the price of the dog. The dog was very expensive at $3,400. We did not have enough money to pay that in full right away. So the store told my husband that they offered "financing" through WAGS Financing (Which is Monterey Financial). They told him if we were approved we could take the puppy home and pay over time. My husband specifically asked if there were any interest charges or fees and was told NO! We went ahead and bought the puppy. We were told we would be charged $206 a month for the puppy. So we were led to believe it was just a monthly payment till the dogs price was paid in full. I paid for my dog for over a year and a half and had paid them little less then $4,000. They continued to charge my account $206 a month. I called WAGS and asked why my account was still being charged when I had already paid over the price of the dog? I was told I am currently "LEASING" my dog. Out of the $206 a month I have paid for my dog only $70 has gone towards my dogs payment!!! The rest of the $136 had gone to "LEASING FEES". I was told if I continue on with my "lease" I would end up paying over $9,000 for my dog! If I would like to "end my lease" and "buy" my dog, I would have to give them another $2,200 to cover the rest of the price and the "buying fee"! So the dog that was already over priced at $3,400 would now end up costing us about $6,000! My husband and I are currently struggling financially, and were happy thinking are dog was now paid off, and come to find out that if we don't pay them the $2,200, we will end up paying another $5,000!!!! So now we are scrambling to find the money to end the "lease". Neither one of us even knew there was such a thing as "leasing a dog"!? This is a horrible company, that rips you off!! You buy a puppy thinking you are just paying for it over time, and end up paying 3 times the amount the dog was priced at!!!
