    Bulgogi stew

Food is amazing! Absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and the bonchon is the perfect pairing! The yuzu tea was super refreshing. Service was slow, but we didn't mind waiting. The care they put into the food was apparent and greatly appreciated! The dining areas (inside and outside) are both cute. Patio is well maintained with lots of greenery. Inside also doubles as a small market with Korean snacks, packaged noodles, kimchi and other refrigerated foods, and some homewares.

Cute place with dining tables surrounded by Korean market items and cozy outdoor patio. Nice spice for most dishes. The rose tteokbokki and bulgogi comfort bowl were standouts.

Interesting experience.. this place doubles up as a restaurant and mini market. It was kinda weird dining in the center of the room where you're surrounded by fridges, snacks, etc. Feels too awkward to really walk around and browse because you'd be in somebody's personal space while they eat. Definitely too awkward to take pics of the snacks too. Outside of that.. the food here was really good. I ordered their bulgogi comfort stew and it got me sweating. The presentation was good and it was spicier than expected. The constant steam from the bowl made my eyes water all night. So yeah.. I suffered through it but still enjoyed the food. Overall I'd say this place is pretty worth it.

Pretty decent korean food! We ate at their outdoor patio area. Food was good and the outdoor seating are was very cute. Their menu isn't very extensive since they're a market too, but their bossam was very good and they have solid classics. Very good lunch spot!

I've been wanting to check out this place for a bit. Was a bit confused walking in but their dining area was on the inside down the hall and then there's also a cute outside area, but the weather was too cold for me to sit outside. We ordered the Rose Rice Cakes and the Bossam. Rose Rice Cakes (7/10): the rice cakes weren't as soft as I'd like and were a bit stiff, the sauce was great through and they were very generous with the amount of rice cakes and fish cakes. Bossam (8/10): Super soft and tender pork sliced with very good flavor. They gave us refills of lettuce, samjang, and kimchi too when we ran out. One thing that stood out was how delicious their side dishes were. I would be willing to buy their side dishes alone, especially the mushroom and cucumber ones. Overall, food was good and service was very attentive, would recommend!

estaurant and Korean mini-mart that has a wide variety of Korean fusion foods. Recommend their Jang Pasta, but they also have an amazing lunch special. Portions are rather large, so one dish could possibly be good for two people. They have both an outdoor and indoor space and the restaurant gets quite crowded around 6 PM, so watch out for that! Service is fast and they do a good job refilling the banchan!

An Absolute Korean Food Dream! Me and my wife ate here several times already, but where do I even begin?! From the moment we sat down, we knew this was going to be a special meal. We kicked things off with Jinro Strawberry Soju -- two bottles, obviously, because you don't come to a place like this and hold back. Light, refreshing, and the perfect way to set the mood. The bento box was a showstopper -- crispy katsu resting on a bed of cabbage slaw, fluffy steamed rice topped with black sesame, golden gyoza, perfectly steamed broccoli, and a rich dipping sauce. And the banchan spread that came alongside? An embarrassment of riches: pickled cucumbers, pickled radish, seasoned bean sprouts, braised greens, spicy kimchi -- every single one house-made and bursting with flavor. But the real scene-stealer? The Rose Tteokbokki in a cast iron skillet -- a fiery, deeply savory broth blanketed in melted cheese, topped with a perfectly halved soft-boiled egg, scallions, and black sesame. It's the kind of dish that makes you go quiet mid-bite because words simply aren't enough. The portions were generous, the service was warm, and the vibe -- somewhere between a cozy Korean market and a neighborhood gem -- made the whole experience feel like a hidden treasure. 10/10, would absolutely come back and bring everyone I know. 먹자!

Found this place by driving by looking for a place to eat and I'm glad I did. It's a restaurant and market cute little place has outdoor seating and indoor seating a small market inside the indoor seating restaurant... I was greeted when I walked in. The outdoor seating was full so I sat indoor which was fine. Since it was my first time I had to try a few things out the menu the food was good and The service was great. The place was clean. I will definitely be back to try more things on the menu.

    Bulgogi stew.... Delicious!

Food was tasty. Rice cakes were a bit under cooked and dry but bulgogi was flavorful. Ambiance was cute but I immediately smelled the fabuloso cleaner which I can't stand. The restaurant has a combo grocery shop and freezer hence the Superette. I think the prices are ok for the location but you can def buy the ingredients from them and make many of the dishes at home for less or at least bigger servings for the same price. Overall a nice place for a date, family outing or even to dine alone! Service was the issue. My daughters meal came out like 10 minutes after my stew and she ended up eating all the banchan. Also banchan portions were served in small soy sauce type tiny dishes instead of the bigger circle plates you normally would get. Banchan was delicious and they did bring us a second round of banchan!

I could eat here everyday! The food was a 10/10, and the patio is super cute. The yuja ice tea was very refreshing. I'll be back soon.

What a super cool spot. We've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time now and finally had the opportunity over the weekend. Such a fun experience essentially having a meal within a market itself (see pictures). We started off with a fresh Dokkaebier on draft ~ I haven't seen these before and was pleasantly surprised to have a fresh and crisp one with our meal. Love to continue and support them! Food-wise we ordered the shrimp potstickers, the jang pasta with pork belly, and the udon noodles in a yellow curry broth with veggies and pork/cheese cutlet. Take me back in time because this meal was heavenly. Each dish had such unique and beautiful flavor. The jang pasta was rich and decadent, the curry creamy and honestly just a perfect pairing with the pork/cheese cutlet. The banchan served to split between two was nicely executed. Great service for us newbies helping to roll through the menu and market items of interest. There is also an outdoor area I can imagine is sweet at dusk too, so cute. Would love to explore more from the menu like the rice bowls and ramen, as well as other Korean snack items for the family. Metered parking can be found on Solano, great spot to meet others or dine solo with a good read.

Korean Superette has the BEST outdoor patio. I loved the ambiance and the pretty plants and decorations. We came for a weekday lunch and I had fun browsing the Korean snacks and to-go banchan for sale in the restaurant. We ordered the following and everything was delicious: Rose rice cakes with boiled egg: SO creamy and flavorful and spicy. It comes with cheese that cuts the spice level a bit. Huge portion size and the rice cakes were the perfect chewiness. You can also add ramen to it and I am definitely trying that next time because there was plenty of extra sauce. Seafood noodles: My sister loved the creamy sauce so much that after we took home the leftovers, she cooked extra noodles and added it to the leftover sauce. Korean fried chicken: SO GOOD. They deep fried and basted the chicken in sticky sweet sauce. I appreciate how they change up the menu with different daily specials every day and it just makes me want to come back again and again to try all the new items!

I was violently craving seolleongtang and did some research to find a spot in Oakland. The menu is pretty big with a lot of enticing options--I love bossam and blood sausage--but because I had tunnel vision, I stuck with the soup. The broth itself was good, and they had salt and pepper on the table so you could season it to your liking. Unfortunately, the noodles were way too soft and almost mushy, and the meat was extremely tough and hard to chew. I couldn't finish it. If seolleongtang is one of your favorite dishes, I'd probably skip it here. My husband got the kimchi fried rice, which was huge and great for sharing between 2-4 people. Based on the portion size, I do think it could use an extra egg, more Spam and some nori on top. It leaned more oily and buttery than other versions I've had, but it was still good--just nothing too special. The vibe and service were solid, so I'd come back to try other dishes and update my rating accordingly.

Throughout the meal, he never checked on our table, even though we noticed him checking on the surrounding tables several times. At one point, the patio umbrella unexpectedly fell near our table. This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?
