This Mexican Restaurant is located in Salisbury, hidden from the main street of Innes. Parking is ample, and we were seated quickly. Lunch specials were offered on the menu. Salsa and chips were complimentary during the wait. The lunch quesadilla wasn't what I expected, came out similar to a stuffed taco on a soft tortilla but the guacamole gave this dish some life with overall flavor. The service was just okay, never did come by to check up on us until we were finished with the meal. I would hope the main dishes offered would be a better selection instead of the lunch menu, if I choose to return. read more

Ok ok I finally tried something new. (Menu is so long it's overwhelming, never wanted to read all of it before) Got El Azteca and it was GOOD. That alone is why I'm bumping up a star. This place is convenient to home so we have been here a few times. In the plus side, the food is good and plentiful. The decor is pretty good with a lot of space. On the negative side, the service is pretty bad and unfriendly. When you enter you will likely encounter several servers and the hostess standing around the entrance talking amongst themselves. No greeting or welcome. After standing uncomfortably for around two minutes, the hostess will point at you and one of the servers willl then direct you to a place to sit. Another lady will literally toss a bowl of chips on the table without a word or smile. When you check out (pay at the entrance), the same hostess will ignore you for another uncomfortable two minutes while she converses with co-workers. One more thing, while I don't expect any kind of wine choice, I do like a glass of red wine. Bewar though, if you order here, it will come chilled. If you ask for red wine at room temperature ish, they don't have any. read more

We ate at Romano's and after we left we saw a mexican restaurant down this hill behind Romano's. Best idea we had to stop in and get a menu. They gave us one of the house menus. We went the next day. We have gone back 4 x since. We love it. The salsa is great the chips are crisp and fresh. Thre is a huge menu loads of food that tastes wonderful. I like the specials for lunch or dinner. Oh sweet heavens above, what happened to this place? I use to eat at the one in mooresville all the time and this one when it was still on 70 by the old mall. I went out to their new location and it is like a totally different place, in a bad, very bad way! I got a chile reeno (sorry my phone cant understand what I'm typing there) and it was just a pile of mushy looking stuff on my plate. We laughed at first because I thought they gave us the wrong thing but much to my surprise that was what I was suppose to have. I've been going to the Monterey for years. They are not a fancy or upscale restaurant, and if you're eating Mexican food at a grocery store strip mall that's likely not what you're expecting. The last I glanced at their health department score it was in the high 90's, so no need to fret about that. Now onto what you *can* expect. The owner, Jorge, is really quite a nice guy and if his wife, Candy, waits on you you'll get great service. Naturally, if Jorge's there at all you'll have great service from all of the staff. Otherwise, it can be a bit slow on occasion, but usually you can get whatever you want or need promptly. Chips and salsa are standard fare for the beginning of a meal at a Mexican establishment. Thankfully, their salsa is a bit hotter than most and not bland tomato puree. Past that, sometimes I like to order the fiesta guacamole. It's your normal pre-packaged guac, but with pico de gallo mixed in. Food is all Tex Mex and cheap. You can order alla carte or in combos. Fajitas and arroz con camarones are both quite good and fresher in my opinion. Most everything else, in Tex Mex style, will be covered with sauce and/or cheese. This doesn't mean their chicken burritos are bad, I actually love them. They're a mix of shredded chicken, onion and bell pepper. However, you're not getting anything special or innovative. Naturally, like any Mexican place worth their salt they have Dos Equis on tap. You can get Bohemia, Negro Modela and plenty of other beers in bottles, as well. They do not take a light hand with tequila in their margaritas. If you like a strong drink, they are your folks. You can get take out, as well. They pack up your order tightly in aluminum containers (no wasted styrofoam) and include an order of chips and salsa on the side. Not exactly great for eating on the road, but if you're in a rush for dinner and need to get home or back to work, it'll do. read more

The service is EXCELLENT, and the food is some of the best Mexican I've eaten in the U.S. and every bit as good as what I ate in Mexico. LOVE their mole sauce! Try the burrito with mole and melted cheese! We really enjoy their big margaritas on the rocks, and request their top-shelf tequila. YUM! We've been going there regularly for a little better than a year now, and have never had a bad experience, or a bad meal. Enjoyed a late lunch. Moterey's has the traditional menu. In Winston-Salem the chain I visit is Mi Pueblo's. Same style setup; exposed brick interior and booth seating, menus include slight variations on the same dishes, pricing is competitive, you get real glasses... Having a real glass to drink out of makes a difference to me. When I visit a Chili's and they have plastic beer mugs, but the place is remodeled... C'mon. The small restaurant trust of a real glass of soda brings it close to the taste drinks had before they were switched into plastic at the stores. Took it simple, Enchilada, beef, and beans. This wasn't a real test of their food. However, it was a quality look and dish. The lady got a satisfying chimichanga. Though I didn't go for the California Burrito, or the Monterey named version, I would next time. It's not my nature to order my favorite option the first time to a new place. There service was really bad. We had to order our queso twice from 2 different servers. Our server who said they were going to be with us for the night left and when he left we didn't get asked what we wanted to drink for 30 minutes. The one good thing about it was the drinks. I went there last night, I can't understand any spanish and all the employees can barely speak any english. My mom asked for some splenda (fake sugar) and instead they gave a box of peppermint flavored tea bags. You can tell by the look on the waiters face that he had no clue what splenda is and could not understand most of anything I said. We had like 3 different people wait on us. Finally went and found someone and requested some waters and still never got any. Got up to leave and approached a manager and got waved out.
