UNBELIEVABLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND DANGEROUS SERVICE! I would highly recommend that you not trust your precious animals with this company. I never write bad reviews but since there are actual lives in the balance of a company that is meant to take care of animals I feel that this terrible experience needs to be shared. My mother was admitted to the hospital after being taken to the ER Thursday morning and I reached out to Monterey Pet Care looking for help with her cat. She has no family or friends in town so we needed the assistance of a pet sitting company. I spoke with Dan through Yelp and Chris on the phone and via text. Our service request entailed needing someone to pick up a key to the house from the front desk of the hospital and then to feed my mother's cat once a day. Chris agreed to do this when we spoke at 2 pm on Friday and said that someone would be by to pick up the key from this hospital the following morning and assured me that they had done things like this before. It goes without saying that I was paying extra for this service. When I checked in via text this morning (Saturday) I received a response 2 hours later that someone had finally been assigned to my mom's cat and they would text me when they were done at the house. I asked if he could provide an ETA for this since it was now the afternoon and I didn't want the key to my mom's house to be misplaced at the front desk of the hospital. I was then told via text that they "tried" and they were very busy. When I was finally able to get Chris on the phone he attempted to gaslight me by saying that he never told me what time they would be by to pick up the key and that they didn't realize how urgent this was. This was a total lie since I was very explicit in the needs and expectations surrounding this sensitive situation and I was assured by Chris that this would be no problem. At this time Chris tells me that they can be at the hospital within 30-45 minutes and asked if I would still like them to come. My response was that after 24 hours I don't have much choice as the cat needs to be taken care of but that I would be looking for other additional care since I didn't feel like I could trust this team any longer. Chris' response was "oh that's what I wanted to hear. You can find someone else to help you". No kidding. Finding SOMEONE (and not someone ELSE) would be a more appropriate way to phrase this since I did not receive any help from this company. Instead, I wasted over 24 hours back and forth with Monterey Pet "Care" when this poor cat has already been left alone for a day before. I have never directly experienced such blatant disregard for an animal's life as I have in dealing with this company. BEWARE!!!!!! read more

This business was on the hotel concierge list and I contacted them to watch our sweet 15lb cavachon for a night in our hotel room while we were out to dinner. Chris asked about temperament, needs etc a few days before and Gabriel Showed up right on time SAT night. My dog instantly loved him and while we had fed her, he was ready to do whatever she needed including a good walk. She's been to the beach for 2 h so was tired but always walks after dinner so I told him a short walk would be good then feel free to come back and hang out. When we got back, our BB was happy and Gabriel was politely sitting in a chair watching TV and the best part, he told us that she got tired in the middle of the walk so he carried her home! My husband Steve and I have been clients of Monterey Pet Care since January 2012. It is an excellent company with quality staff - reliable, trustworthy, and accommodating. Initially, we arranged for daily walks for our two labrador retrievers when I was working full-time and my husband was recovering from hip surgery. But due to our busy lives and the excellent experience we had in the beginning, we have continued with a regular daily walk for our dogs since then. We trust them, and they really ease our load! We are concerned "parents". We center our lives around the dogs, because not only are they wonderful and loving family dogs, they are active, energetic dogs who need a lot of exercise. And because we have had dogs of all ages since January 2012 - young adult dogs, elderly dogs, and puppies - one dog with knee problems, and even one who had chemotherapy, we can attest that the walkers are good with all ages and conditions. We feel fortunate to have found Monterey Pet Care with its very dependable, friendly, and professional walkers. They arrive on time and treat our dogs and everyone they meet with respect. We hire Dan occasionally to watch/walk our dog. We would hire him more but we love taking Coach with us everywhere. He takes him on great walks, and tires him out and makes sure we come back to a happy dog. He also took great care of him while we were out of town for a long weekend, walked him, played with him. Even took him on the rec trail for a good long walk. Whenever Coach sees Dan he gets super excited, and Dan is excited to see him too. read more

Contracted for service for yard pet waste clean up at my in-laws house. At first service was good, then somewhere the weekly clean up started to drop off, and the days changed from the arranged dates. After a while there was scattered communication at best and then no service at all. While the gentleman that came was nice, there wasn't any consistency after the first few weeks. We even received an invoice for a month where we had NO service. Fortunately the invoice was quickly cancelled after I brought this to the attention of the company. I've heard good things about the pet sitting, so perhaps that service is MUCH better. I'd look elsewhere though if you're looking for yard clean up. read more

The services provided by Monterey pet care are wonderful!! We have had two different people take care of our kitties and they were both great. Our most used (and favorite) kitty sitter is Claire. She is smart, punctual, and goes out of her way to exceed expectations. Very professional and courteous, and most importantly- trustworthy. Always sends text messages and photo updates. She's very responsive to any extra requests like changing the litter or bringing in your trash and recycling. I'm only knocking one star because they sometimes mix up when or how many times a day you requested services, so always double check with the owner (Chris) and your sitter right before your trip. We are so relieved to find pet sitters in our area. The only other option we have are expensive daycares. With Monterey Pet Care, we can have a sitter come to our home, take care of and walk BOTH of our dogs (we have two big ones) for only $20/half hour or $25/45 minutes. Clair took care of our dogs twice over the weekend and everything looked the same - so much so I wondered if she'd even been there! We wouldn't have known unless she'd texted us a picture of our dogs and they looked pretty happy. Clair was also very sweet, clearly loves dogs, and our dogs just loved her from the first meeting. We will definitely use MPC's services in the future and absolutely recommend them to others. read more
