The first gentleman that helped me upon my drop off (brunette man with nose ring) was the absolutely sweetest! I could tell he was really paying attention to all my particulars about how I like my dog groomed. When I came to pick my Winston up, Winston wasn't as happy as I'm used to seeing him when picking him up from the groomers (I can tell he felt super comfortable here). Upon leaving this other gentleman (muscular build with tattoos I believe) was giving me all the details about Winston's grooming and what to do next time to prevent matting, his opinion on what length to go etc., etc. Mind you, it was extremely busy in there! The place is super clean, they're all wearing scrubs, the decor is just adorable. All the dogs that went in and came out had the best groom job. It just had the best charm here. Left my dogs there this morning and I made the point to show pictures of how I like my dog's hair cut, I have a yorkiepoo and her hair grows super fast and she looks like a hot mess if not contained, so I like to trim her very short so I gain more mileage out of her hair cut, since it is an expense service. They are quick and my dogs look cute and well taken care of, but my yorkie simply look like she had a bath and her hair brushed. It is still way too long regardless my directions to cut her hair short. It is very frustrating when you give precise instructions and people just decide to do whatever they want.. read more

I encourage yelp users researching Suds and Scissors Carmel to look at all of the 1 star and 2 star reviews as well as those that are "not currently recommended" (the 1 star reviews are hidden here). You will see MANY complaints about the rudeness of the staff managing the desk and phones. I have used them many times because the grooming was ok, and I have tried to overlook the curt, snippy attitude I have been subjected to over the years. Today was the second time a specific request about my dog's grooming was ignored or forgotten. To be told at 1:30 to come get my dog "the sooner the better" by a rude female employee when they close at 3:00 plus a shabby grooming job have ensured that we will not be back. I will join the legions of people who will elect to not receive brusque, rude treatment from this establishment. I am expecting a rude, gruff response from the owner, as this seems to be his MO. With a cat it's so hard to find a good groomer and there may only be one person (unfortunately I didn't catch a name) at Suds and Scissors that does grooming for kitty's but my kitty came back so soft, with his nails trimmed of course. BEST experience ever as a walk-in!! I can't thank the caring, capable staff of Warren, Tamara and Owner Todd enough as they went above and beyond to complete a nail clip for my scared (and somewhat sedated) dachshund mix. While it is a relatively simple procedure, they handled my nervous guy beautifully and really saved the day!!! My regular Vet (Pacific Grove Animal Hospital whom I DO NOT recommend) had prescribed a sedative for the appointment and then canceled my appt at the very last minute without telling me and the vet techs who were on site refused to do the nail clip. I left a review a month ago on this business. I've been a customer since 2011 with a 2 year hiatus when we lived in San Francisco. Todd groomed my 2 akitas and my French bulldog. I was always thrilled. When we returned from the city, we took our new Akita to Todd. It was a substandard groom. Hoshi came home damp, "doggie" and not rinsed thoroughly. Hoshi has a rolled eyelid and Todd mentioned this to my daughter. I called Todd to let him know I was aware of her condition and to tell him she smelled doggie and was not rinsed. Todd declined my calls and didn't return either call. After my review I expected a response, especially after many years of being a loyal customer. He hasn't responded at all. Todd if you read these shame on you. Long time customers deserve better than this. read more
