I used Dawg Gone It for years, and looking back, I really wish I had trusted my gut sooner. My dogs would often come home acting strangely after staying there, but I never had any concrete reason to believe something was wrong, so I continued using them. One thing that always bothered me was the complete lack of cameras. For a premium-priced boarding facility, I believe pet parents should be able to check in on their dogs throughout their stay. Being able to actually see how your dogs are doing shouldn't feel like a luxury when you're paying a premium for their care. Then something happened that completely changed my perspective. I was out walking my dogs, Ollie and Evie, when a woman unexpectedly called out, "Hi Ollie! Hi Evie!" I stopped and asked how she knew them. She told me she had previously worked at Dawg Gone It. Naturally, I started asking her about her experience there and whether the dogs were well cared for. Her response genuinely shocked me. She told me, in no uncertain terms, "Never take your dogs there." I was honestly stunned. I can't speak firsthand to everything that may or may not happen inside the facility, and I'm not going to make accusations I can't personally substantiate. But hearing that from someone who had actually worked there, combined with my dogs' behavior after previous stays and the lack of transparency from not having cameras, was enough for me. I will never board my dogs there again. More than anything, I'm disappointed in myself for not questioning things sooner. Ollie and Evie are my babies, and knowing what I know now, I wish I had made a different choice for them years ago. If you're considering boarding your dogs here, I would strongly encourage you to do your own research and ask a lot of questions before leaving your pets there. read more

Last minute- this awesome dog sitter places place took in my Samantha -a 7 year old blue healer for a few hours while visiting the Monterey aquarium. The place a bit hard to get to but she was treated with kindness and respect. Definitely would use their service again if needed while in the area. Staff at drop off (Victoria) was so friendly! Like another commenter mentioned the girl at pick up time was expressionless and didn't provide any sort of care summary except for payment. She couldn't tell me what he did for playtime but was okay charging for it. Last potty time was 2 hours before I picked him up. During pick up multiple dogs were crying. She didn't care to answer the phone. Lobby smells strongly of urine it would be great to get an air purifier in there. If it wasn't for the friendly drop off staff I probably wouldn't have left my pup there. I hope they take the feedback for better customer service. read more

I've brought my dogs here regularly since I moved to the area, for both daycare and boarding. My three are well-socialized and play well together but love the chance to play with new dog friends. They love this place and come home every day exhausted--not a bad thing for terriers! I wish that drop-off and pick-ups could run a bit more smoothly (if I don't time it right I am waiting a long time) but that is a small thing when compared to the good care they get while here. read more

I left my two dogs here for a day lodging while my boyfriend and I went to the aquarium 10 minutes away. The day lodging is for up to 5 hours but I picked them up about 3.5 hours after dropping them off because I was done walking around. They were very nice and accommodating to my requests. My dogs kind of have separation anxiety and I feel more comfortable knowing that they are not bothered by anyone in case they react defensively. I asked them to not to interact with them or take them out for a potty break since they were only staying for a short amount of time. They also allowed me to bring my own dog bed, bowl, and potty pad. They also allowed me to check out the room they were staying at, set things up for them, and personally drop off and pick them back up. When I came to pick up my dogs, I walked up to their room and to my surprise they weren't barking or pacing around! They were just laying there looking out of the glass door which means gives me comfort because that means they were calm and comfortable! If I need any other dog lodging services while I'm in town here, I'll definitely come back! read more

I tried to book my dogs here and sadly was unable to get in contact. I filled out their form twice after being told the first time I submitted they told me it was not received. Every time I have called it goes to voicemail, I left multiple voicemails. At one time I was unavailable to answer I tried calling back and went to voicemail again. Another time I answered I let them know I was about to get on a call and asked if I could call back 30 minutes later, which I did to again no answer. My dogs were there for day lodging for half day on a busy Thursday. Staff at drop off was friendly. At pick up staff seemed for lack of better words "ready to be done for the day." Pretty much took my money and asked if I wanted a receipt then brought out my dogs pretty expressionless. Our dogs were thrilled to see us, but it was obvious that our long haired puppy had an accident in her room because her booty had potty all over it-it happens, she's used to telling us when she needs to go out. There were a lot of repeat customers coming and going while we were dropping off. The only negative thing I have to say is that when we got there close to 5pm to pick up there was a REALLY strong urine smell in the reception area - outhouse strong. Benefit of the doubt would say "nearly end of the day...a few animals have probably had accidents in that area during the day...maybe they just wait until closing to sanitize." My personal choice/recommendation is sanitize with appropriate urine neutralizers each time it happens, as this is where your customers encounter you. Again, everyone has busy days, could have been short handed... just my observations from one day. read more

2/16/2022. UPDATE: My dog has been on serious medication since October 18 2021. Since then, I have undergone surgeries, emergency room visits, medication and a massive amount of vet bills. As of today, he is still on 3 medications a day, and vet visits every couple of weeks to monitor blood tests. The infection and the medication for that infection has resulted in complications to my dogs blood platelets. He had to be rushed to the hospital in Santa Cruz because of this and stay over a weekend due to a low blood platelet count resulting from the medication from his injuries from Dawg Gone It. We almost lost him that weekend because of how low they were. DONT EVER TRUST THIS PLACE! read more

My English bulldog loves coming here. Second time he's stayed the night and zero complaints. Watching all the dogs going in super happy and excited to be there is a real comfort. Mine is still a puppy and has marked his territory both times he's stayed, but they kindly washed his blanket/toys I left with him before I picked him up. They offer walks/cuddles/baths/etc at an additional price, they have a full menu at the check in desk. Staff is always kind, welcoming, friendly and always willing to answer any questions. They were amazing and accommodating at DGI. We took our lab mix who can be very shy and protective, and they worked SO well with him. We were so glad he felt safe and was able to open up and play. We even mentioned picking him up close to closing time and they offered to stay a few extra mins if we needed, luckily we didn't and were able to pick him up happy as ever. We also gave them hemp calming treats to give him if he needed help relaxing after we left and they were on top of it and didnt even need the 2nd day. Will be back! read more

I was a first time customer this week and was hopeful I had a solution for my pet when I have to travel. I was very disappointed by my experience at DawgGoneIt. First clue was the smell upon entry. It smelled like dirty dog smell, really strong. I couldn't believe the workers there could stand to be in that room. But ok just a bad first impression Then they informed me that my dog would be in a room by herself the whole time. ThIS Is not what I was told in the phone when I reserved. I was told my dog would be playing with dogs all day Then they dropped the hook, I had to pay substantially more if my dog was to get a walk, or play time with dogs, AND not Cheap!! $49 for the gold package which got her a walk, some attention from a staff member and some play time with dogs on top of the $40 for the overnight stay I also just finished bathing my dog even though I paid them $44 for a bath. She was horribly smelly and dirty for a bathed dog. She had eye goop in her fur and she seemed like she was rinsed but not shampooed. Yuck. Now she is clean because I bathed her properly In the end 2 days cost $175 to get back a dirty smelly dog. Never again. I could have someone stay at my house for $50 a night and my dog would be clean and happy I'll use Rover next time but definitely not Dawg Gone It. If you have a bad feeling when you start out. Rescued a fur baby and realized that we had a wedding in Monterey in two weeks. Most places that board where I live were requiring thAt she had her flu shots (which means first shot and then booster shot 3 weeks later). Someone suggested calling places in Monterey. Dawg Gone It had great ratings so we called and decided to bring her here. We were not able to see the whole facility but saw many workers coming and and out with dogs and every dog had a smile and a wagging tail. Our baby girl stayed for two days and we paid extra for her to be walked. Everyone that we spoke to were really friendly and the facility seemed clean. I only gave it 4 stars b/c I requested to get text messages that included pictures of her and we never got one. read more

Planning a trip to Monterey with the furbaby...oh boy oh boy. Good thing for Dawg Gone It existing. I was able to do things not dog friendly while still enjoying time with my stinker afterwards. I was reading some reviews saying that daycare was kind of pricey and it made me very hesitant to pick up the phone and call to ask for pricing but I'm glad I did because as it turns out, the cost of daycare there is the same that I pay for my dog down here. Miniscually more expensive than PetSmart but I appreciate the small businesses that truly love and care about animals so I fork over that extra dollar or two. They separate the big dogs and the little dogs and will give you a short tour of the facilities if you're interested and tell you about the schedule, there is a short "break time" so that the dogs get some rest. It's equivalent to nap time, which is good. Naps are nice. So, pricing wise it was $30.00 for a full day of daycare and $18.00 for a half day of daycare. My stinky pupster went in for 2 days, one half and one full day. He came back even more stinky, that's expected, thoroughly exhausted and a happy pup. The reservation process was painless, I uploaded all but 1 document that I needed via their website and they called my vet for records before we made it up there. Signed the last document when we got there, took a brief tour of the facility and off my puppy went. No injuries, no fleas, no bite marks, just a super happy puppy and was told that he played really well. So why 4 stars? Well, because Yelp won't let give 4.5 stars where I would dock 1/2 a star for not having a visible play area. I like to be able to see where/what my dog will be/is doing when I walk in without having to walk to the back. All-in-all, a great facility and will do it again next time the furbaby goes with us to Monterey. read more

There are a few people working there. If your dog has special needs, make sure you let them know when you check in. My dog is deaf, and at pickup the employee was shocked to find that out. She said she was talking to him the entire time. His deafness triggers his anxiety. I'm not sure they read the detailed notes that I noted online. Overall, I give this place 5 stars! Nice place. Nice people. However... But for the 2nd weekend in a row we were unable to get accommodations for our dogs. They cited that they were totally booked via email. However I started calling days ago and leaving messages with no return call. Their site states you should fill out their online form AND call. As of this morning we still had not heard anything back so this morning I go online to fill out their reservation form only to learn they are booked. So now we are on the look out for a new doggy day care...one that will call us back. Our terrier mix has been coming here since he was 3 months old. He is now almost 3! Stephanie and her staff do an amazing job. When Wayne sold the business we were a little worried, but that fear was quickly put to rest. We take our dog every other day for a full day's play. He is ecstatic every time he goes. He loves it there and seems to love the staff as well. We left him for 2 weeks while we got married and for our Hawaii honeymoon and he seemed to have a blast. Stephanie was awesome each time we called to check on him. The girls constantly take cute photos and videos of him playing with his friends. I absolutely adore this place and it's staff. I've always been very nervous to board the dogs. I have a friendly corgi and a semi aggressive dachshund/chihuahua. The doxie barks at strangers, so I wasn't sure how he was going to act. I dropped both dogs off and worried the entire time. When I picked them up, I asked how it went and they said they LOVED both dogs...and she absolutely adored the doxie. I said...What?? MY dog was GOOD?? lol. Both dogs LOVE coming here, they know as soon as we hit the exit and they start wagging their tail. The staff are super friendly and I like that the dogs are in actual small rooms and not "wire cage kennels". I've seen cage kennels for boarding before and I hate it. I recommend this place! Thank god for Dawg Gone it! My boyfriend and I were vacationing in Monterey this past weekend with our little pup when we needed a place for her to stay last minute. She is a rescue pup and can not be kenneled because she goes into a complete panic. I looked up local cage-less doggie hotels and Dawg Gone It was the only place open on a Saturday. We brought her in and was pleasantly surprised at how great of a place this was. I have 4 years of vet experience and have worked in a boarding facility before and this was way beyond my expectations. The lobby was clean, wonderfully decorated and when the back room door was opened I wasn't greeted by the deafening sound of dozens of dogs barking. I was also happy with the actual little rooms the dogs stay in. It wasn't the cold, metal cages that I knew my doggie couldn't stay in. The best part of it was when we picked her up. She was happy to see us, but not desperately happy and she didn't smell like scared, panicked dog. My only con is that we don't have a place like this were we live. I am jealous of the people of Monterey! I totally recommend Dawg Gone It! I loved what I saw of it and I loved seeing my dog happy but not relieved when we came to pick her up. read more
