Not sure what to say. I was looking on Yelp for a painter (helping a family member find someone). Imagine my surprise when I discovered a picture of MY HOUSE in the pictures listed here. I know for a fact (because I paid the bill when it was painted - years before this pic was taken) that Montgomery Painting was not the contractor hired to paint my house! I suppose it's possible the owner of this company worked for that other company. Seems a little curious and fishy to me (especially since I see so many pictures taken of homes w/in my neighborhood). read more

David came out to our home for an estimate. He told my wife that it needed some major TLC (I was at work at the time). During my break I called and asked her what was happening. She told me that she was very impressed with everything that David had said. He even told her to call another paint company and get an estimate. We decided on the spot to have Montgomery Painting paint our home. David and crew arrived and got straight to work. These guys were absolutely amazing!! Stripping off decades of paint, and then primer. It took them about three days from start to finish. We told David what we wanted for colors and as expected Montgomery Painting delivered! He guaranteed his work, and made our home look absolutely wonderful! Gray house, white trim, and red doors! The crew worked tirelessly to ensure that the job was done right. The cleaned up as they went, and ensured that everything was done correctly. David inspected his crews work throughout the entire process. This is a case of, if I could rate a job with more than 5 stars, I would! We were looking for a company to paint the exterior of our home. We knew it was going to be a big job. Our home is rather large, built on sloped land and faces salt water. Although it was probably a little less than 10 years since it was last painted, the part of our home that faces west is exposed to the salty air and full sun, so there was a LOT of scraping to do. We interviewed 4 companies. David's quote was not the least expensive or the most expensive. But right from the beginning, I got a gut feeling about David. He arrived to check out the job exactly on time. He said he would e-mail the quote no later than the following day, but called that evening to let us know he had sent the quote. After hiring him, he arrived on the scheduled date, on time, and continued to arrive on time for the 3-4 days it took to complete the job. He took no short cuts. His crew spent the first day pressure washing. Then they taped off all the windows, and started scraping. His work, and that of his crew was flawless! We also told him we were thinking of replacing a couple of sections of cedar siding with cedar shakes, and asked if he could do that, or recommend someone that did. He said he knew a couple of people, and could do a separate quote for that. He hired "Jessie", who did a meticulous job. We were so happy with Montgomery Painting, we would highly recommend him to anyone. If, in the future, we need a painting job, either inside the house or outside, we will only make one call...to Montgomery Painting. read more

Hired David for exterior painting, as well as painting the front door. Not only was David great throughout the whole process, the work came out excellent. They also replaced some of the wood trimming that was rotting away. I also had a misunderstanding on the colors after the job was done and David came out to clear it up. With hopes the following litany will save friends and neighbors in Mason and Thurston counties the frustrations, the delays, the promises broken, and ultimately, poor workmanship; I outline my experience with Montgomery Painting LLC. I should have known better. I really should have known when David Montgomery was hours early for the initial meeting to see my house in Tumwater. This has always proved indicative of people that have no consideration of other people's time. Another cross-county drive to meet David Montgomery and get a bid. His bid was several hundred dollars less than the other two, and most important at that time, he was able to start the following week. Both my friend and I thought David sounded competent and professional. This was the week of August 6, 2018. The contract was made. Pressure washing would begin Friday, August 18, with paint the following week. We were wrong. This house in Tumwater is rented to a great tenant. To ensure she was not inconvenienced, all correspondence and phone calls affecting scheduling were copied to her; dates and timing approved. August 8, email: #1 -- Me to David -- paint colors and paint numbers. August 27, email: #2 -- Pressure washing delayed to September 15 -- DELAY 1 September 16, email: #3 -- Me to David -- ? revised schedule? No show Montgomery Painting LLC, September 16 -- DELAY 2 Excuses for delays included, pressure wash guy on vacation, needing a deposit, then an email with statement attached -- bid price increased $900.00. (Later corrected) September 28 email -- David to me -- washing next week. -- DELAY 3 September 30 email: -- David to me -- washing on the 5th (Oct). Messages to/from David announcing delays for days that became weeks, and finally months totaled 47 emails. Montgomery Painting LLC announced with a 4:00pm.phone call, that the painting was complete and payment in full was required. The front porch railing and pickets were unpainted, plastic screens were not installed, and even in the waning light, I could see holidays in the grey trim. That was October 10, 2018. David Montgomery said the front railing and pickets was not included in the bid. (?) This was new to my experience. Both other two bids included the entire house. This railing and pickets is neither a garden nor dog fence; it is along the stairs to and bordering the front door. On October the 18th, I walked the job with my regular painter to get an estimate on finishing the front porch railing. He also pointed to multiple holidays on the base coat. Estimate: Railing pressure wash, sand and paint: $1200.00. Actual cost was $1000.00 October 18, email -- Me to David -- "After 42 years in the industry you must recognize this as a rush job and far less than your best work". I asked for reimbursement for the required extra work to finish the job. After another month and many emails, he agreed to pay me half ($500.00). Even with that, Montgomery Painting LLC was the most expensive of three bids with the longest start time. This has been the most frustrating, exasperating experience I have had with a contractor. Montgomery Painting came out and painted our entire house in less than 7 hours. They also fixed up our front porch, stabilized it, and repainted it the very next day. They had an extra difficult job, because our community doesn't allow any spray painting & they had to roll and brush paint the entire house. They were awesome about that and offered no complaints. They were very professional and reasonably priced. Out of all of the bids we received, they offered the best one! We were very impressed with them and would hire them again. The owner is involved from the initial conversations to the final walkthrough and clean up. He personally engages in all aspects of the painting and invests his own time, expertise, and decades of experience to make sure the project is done exactly as desired. Dave Montgomery has a passion and love for painting . . . a characteristic not shared by many. David is hardworking, honest and dedicated to the final project. He actually enjoys the painting and he is up and down ladders the entire day. Dave has stated multiple times . . . you don't pay me until you are 100% satisfied. Now that is a guy who understands how to create a business. When Dave says something, you can take it to the bank. He told me three years ago that when we moved away, he would be willing to travel and paint our new house. I thought he was joking. He was not.
